South Africa's ruling party, the African National Congress, has received a boost ahead of the upcoming election. One of the ANC's chief rivals, former president Jacob Zuma, has been barred from contesting. Zuma was South Africa's fourth president, and one of the ANC's most popular leaders. But he was sidelined by the party after he was linked with multiple scams. Zuma decided to fight against his old ANC colleagues this time around. But now, Zuma has been disqualified, over a technicality. Zuma has never been convicted of corruption, but he was sentenced to 15 months in prison back in 2021 over the contempt of court.
