Nice overview vid of a fun product. I have had Zweihänder since the first kickstarter and "grim and perilous" is not an idle boast. It is "old school" goodness in a similar weird way that feels a bit like WFRP 1e plus DCC RPG and a little Shadow of The Demon Lord - all good games in their own right. If you like grimdark and prefer a slightly less "wordy" game, I recommend Warlock! It has a WFRP meets Advanced Fighting Fantasy feel about it and I am enjoying it. It would be interesting to hear you compare Zweihänder to the new WFRP 4e.😉

Cool. Wanted to know your thoughts on this as I haven't had a chance to dive deep into this one yet. My impressions are that its trying to do what 1st edition WHFRP did in terms of having everything in one book (we ran campaigns using that book alone or almost that book alone, for over a decade) and in having some of the quirkiness that was missing in 2nd edition (although sometimes it misses the mark, IMO), while having the benefit of more unified mechanics which 2nd edition had, along with its even greater character customization. Having played 1st edition A LOT and 2nd edtion several campaigns, I have to say mechanically I liked 2nd edition, despite there being a few elements of 1st I preferred, like d6s for damage made Ulfric's Fury much more likely for one thing. But I did NOT miss having the various skills use different resolution systems in different situations, etc. I STILL don't remember how all of them worked! In fact, I picked up a copy of the 1st edition book on eBay for $20 in darn good condition, and that discrepancy with skills is mostly what's kept me running it. On the other hand the massive size of the book is what's intimidated my gaming group keeping them from playing Zweihander so far, given the relative inexperience of about two-thirds of my present group. Anyway, looking forward to your review of Main Gauche as I've been debating picking it up. Since the Kickstarter for Old-School Essentials Advanced has me tapped out this month, and add-ons in Backerkit for it are going to have me tapped out next month, and I still need to do the Christmas shopping for the kids...there's no rush. Game on!

The physical, professionally made book is awesome. I'm surprised that huge thing can be had for such a good price, too. The one from the latest print run, and the new publisher, is well made.

I was super excited to run this game, Now that I'm about 1/3rd through a campaign I can safely say I agree with the most common complaint, this game is over written. It really didn't need to be as massive as it is, it's not a bad game though it's not going to be my go to system.

It's a few months late but your pronunciation of Main Gauche made me laugh ;P It's french, it would be like Mayn Goh-shhh (I'm not a super good French speaker so someone can correct me but yeah) God this game looks so good though, I have the physical book and it is a TOME

I've been looking at this for a long time. Love WFRP and prefer a darker/gritty settings. And I've seen enough of WFRP 4th to know I'm not interested (too close to 2nd). I'm still looking hard at Castles and Crusades too. (Not sure C&C is all that gritty?) I'm torn. And if I'm being honest (with myself) I'm not sure I need either.

How difficult would it be to adapt Zweihänder into a homebrew setting or another IP's world? Or to mess around with the magic system to create a new one?
@questwise40773 жыл бұрын
It wouldn't be hard at all to use the rules in a homered world, though it may take a bit of tinkering to change up the magic system.

@@questwise4077 Yeah, I just used this system to run a game set in the Vampire Hunter D universe, as well as using it for a Solomon Kane tie in story.
