Message to Garmin/Tacx - You have had the hardware capability for years (Neo/Neo2/Neo2T), it's about time you wake up your software engineers to deliver better functionality! Why will users like myself chose your products when the Hub is now more functional at half the price?

This just changed my buying decision 180 degrees. I was stone set on buying a kickr V6. But with this; being able to interchange my 11 speed and my wife's 10 speed without any fuzz, using the same casett (zwift cog) is a true game changer.
@maxonsax5595

BUT now you could use any cassett. Also if you have a 11 speed and wife is using 10 speed you can use the 11 speed cassett for the 10 speed bike. Just do not shift. Mount the bike on a fix gear and use the virtual gear changer... So actually there is no need for the zwift cog...

@@maxonsax5595 I think it's possible the different derrailleurs on the bikes do not perfectly align to the on-hub cassette, causing some clicking and annoyance. I really hope we see Wahoo adopt this as soon as possible. If it comes to the Core I'm buying immediately. I wonder if there is an easy way to do this for a household with 2 riders of different heights (so no bike switching on the trainer). Then i wouldn't be tempted at all to buy a 3.000$ easy-adjust smart bike. :)

Thanks for the great video Shane and massive kudos to Zwift. This really is a game changer. I think to me the big takeaway is that it seems that you can now take any old bike frame and turn it into a full smart bike easily. I was considering a Wahoo Kickr Shift, but now seems I can have all the same features (perhaps even better?!) on any frame I want for a fraction of the cost. The icing on the cake would be a set of proper Zwift shifters / brifters. Granted, this is a bit more of a niche product as a lot of people will not have a dedicated frame on the Hub, but for those who do, this would be full smart bike integration!

How cool is this? Im into indoor cycling on my zwift hub for around 1 month now. My ONLY issue is the loud drivechain noise on "extreme" gears. Especially on the bigger chainring the drivechain will be louder. Using zwift in ERG Mode theres nearly no noise. Ive purchased the zwift cog instantly just because i love the idee to shift virtually in any gear without crosschain or louder gears on both ends of the derailour. Additional ive purchased zwift play... Well just because i really love zwift for keeping me into sports even in the cold season!

So I upgraded from the Wahoo Snap and so far so good ! I can"t say the "road feel" is a lot better, I suppose it was already very good on the Snap (something you'd mentioned in your review if memory serves) and if anything there's less "inertia" (i.e. the wheel doesn't spin as long as on the Snap when you stop pedaling). I used to connect my Assiomas to Zwift as the "power meter" on the Snap was just not accurate enough but I still see an improvement in "game experience". I don't know if it's thanks to the 10Hz updates but it's now much easier to ride in a pack, if you fall behind a quick acceleration brings you back instantly. My bike is also a lot more stable than with the Snap where it tended to tilt, especially when getting out of the saddle. As you pointed out in your Q&A the hub is a tad noisy, might put a cassette to see if it helps. I read it wasn't compatible with the Yahoo climb but I can lift the front of my bike almost as easily as with the Snap, have they made some hardware changes maybe ? Oh and "virtual shifting" is great, I placed the Click on the outside of the drops (like DCR) and it's perfect when riding on the hoods. It also comes in handy with the rather annoying constant percentage variations in Zwift's "worlds", something I've never liked as it really doesn't happen IRL in my experience, i.e. quick shifts of -3% to +3% in a matter of a few meters sometimes. I'm not sure why they've never fixed this ! On the actual climbs (AdZ, Ventop and Climb Portal the problem isn't there).

This looks awesome. You mentioned that you can change the cog to regular cassette cog. Do you think changing it to a gates belt drive system would work and be more maintenance free (since don't need to maintain the chain) and quiet than using the chain?
@gplama
@gplama 9 ай бұрын
That'll work. You'll lose a few watts with the belt drive vs chain though.

This is so good. I’m using the wahoo snap and was looking to upgrade. Is this available in Aus? Doesn’t look like it. Am I correct to assume that Jetblack are selling it here under their brand?

Yes JetBlack have tested, now waiting on Zwift implementation allowing us to go. ETA comes back to Zwift's appetite, allowing the game to identify the Volt using this protocol. Should not be too long.

I am waiting for the opportunity to use my DI2 shifters to change the gears of the hub. Should be easy to make as a 3rd party especially with the wireless 12speed. (DI2 to BT) Heck I might even build it myself using an Arduino or something.
@gplama
@gplama 9 ай бұрын
In a perfect world your Di2/eTap could pair to your software of choice indoors and allow you to use the same shifting buttons/setup with virtual gears. I doubt this will ever be a reality.
@nickderijcke9288

I don't think it is that far away as we think. Yeah native support will be far away but considering the connection methods (bleutooth capabilities on DI2 and Zwift companion app on your phone or the transmitting protocol of the click) it might not be that hard to build an app. Thinking about the Karoo video you made which is similar. The hard part will potentially be the bleutooth adress of the click but there are workarounds for that.

Great info. Insta-ordered the cog and click thing. A question: can you pair the click thing through the zwift hub or does it need a separate BT connection?
@gplama
@gplama 9 ай бұрын
Click pairs to Zwift. If you’re on Apple TV it’s best to use the companion app to get around the connection limits on that unit.

I am looking at this and the Elite Direto-XR-T for my 27.5 mountainbike. What trainer would you advice after this update? The Direto will be more expensive because i will need a casette but close enough that it doesn't matter.

Two things. Virtual gears. That does look very nice. Wahoo missed a trick there. 10hz game mode for a trainer in that price range is also a game changer. Renders Kickr v4/5 almost obsolete.

Really nice but lacks the possibility to connect with LAN cable. Else I would have upgraded from my Kickr v5 with dircon, network cable connection and racemode. Performance and stability cannot be compromised. Still waiting for racemode support for any Kickr bike.

Is there any tactile feedback when shifting, such as the virtual "thunk" on the KICKR bike? If not, do you miss it?
@gplama
@gplama 9 ай бұрын
No, but the resistance change is fast so you know a change has taken place. It’s far better than on the SB20 smart bike where you’re never sure the gear change happened in a lot of cases.

It would be nice to change between gravel and road bike without changing cassette. But I have different brands of drivetrain. Is it interchangeable or do you purchase one for each? Also, still have to shift to an unknown middle gear to prevent derailleur damage?

Interesting that the sprint wattage shortfall occurs when you're in the small ring vs. the big ring. I understood trainer accuracy to be superior in the small ring vs. big ring due to flywheel speeds... any thoughts on why that happens?

Stages SB20 “Dreamdrive” setup is virtual shifting, and very adjustable/tunable. I absolutely love it, and it’s cool to see it coming to ‘normal’ smart trainers.

Hi Shane, are the physics preserved with virtual gears? For instance, more inertia on high slopes and less on flat roads?
@gplama
@gplama 5 ай бұрын
With the flywheel speed being in a locked ratio with cadence, the inertia/ride feel will depend on the physical gearing you use for virtual shifting.

Now the beef between Wahoo and Zwift is over, and they seem to be happy again working with each other, might we get an update from Wahoo for lets say the Kickr Core to have similar 10hz update on BT (as it seems to be just a software "problem" to implement that) and virtual shifting support?
