What people aren’t seeming to realize under this comment is that Moira is the easiest to carry on because she has high burst healing, does a decent amount of damage (especially combined with her orbs), has a getaway AND you don’t have to know how to aim in order to play her meaning you just have to hold down her primary or secondary in order to do what you want. Edit: Mercy’s an off-healer, my bad 😅 This is simply a beginner's guide helping new players decide which support heroes interest them :) Main and Off-Healer are just terms that felt natural to use for an intro level video on support. Typically, most players use Main Support and Flex Support to label the different support heroes as well as which heroes fit in those categories. Main Support is a character who focuses on providing non cooldown utility, such as speed or damage boost, and will likely have the most healing done Flex Support: generally is more mechanically demanding and focuses on things such as dealing damage and cool-down based utility Feel free to input your thoughts below if there is anything you'd like to share :D
@aguyontheinternet84362 жыл бұрын
I believe that's an outdated system, relying on how much healing a support can output, which isn't nearly as necessary with only 1 tank to heal. I mean, playing a Kiriko and Lucio, you will find that if they play well, there is plenty of healing to go around anyways. I mean, you classified Kiriko as a flex, but I bet you didn't know her papers actually have around the same healing per second as Ana's gun. And now all supports are mechanically demanding, as if you want to get value out of them, just healing won't be enough, you also need to provide a lot of utility and damage. So the terms "main support" and "flex support" get murkier and murkier.
@zwordz2 жыл бұрын
@@aguyontheinternet8436 I agree with you ! Most definitely, the main reason I put out those textbook definitions for main and flex support was simply because I was getting a decent amount of comments that didn't like my main and off-healer labels, but in reality, nothing in this game is black and white. Support is a lot more mechanically demanding for sure with one tank, this is why it's more important to do other things than simply healing. I actually didn't know Kiriko's papers do about the same HPS as Ana's gun, that's mad ! Good tip !
@WhatisaLee2 жыл бұрын
Main supports can also be defined by their ability to peel for the flex in addition to what you mentioned. So... Main: Lucio, Mercy, Brig. Flex: Ana, Zen, Moira. Bap can go either way depending on his partner. Kiriko is probably a main.
@BlazeLycan2 жыл бұрын
I was **this** close to making a comment about that main/off-healer terminology, lol. As for Main and Flex Support, there's a fairly decent chance that that definition will likely change as we have seen double main supports and flex supports be used in the OWL, such as Lucio and Brig with Junker Queen. @@WhatisaLee No, it's not about peel. If that was the case; Moira would be main and so would Ana. Kiriko is most definitely not a Main Support. Her cooldowns are way too timing based and if you're not helping out with flanks at the right times and hitting the headshots; she's just a worse Bap stat-wise.
@WhatisaLee2 жыл бұрын
@@BlazeLycan It *can* be about peel but not always so you're right. Mercy for example. However, it is usually the main's job to look out for their flex especially in 5v5. Hence why ana/zen is no longer a popular pairing. Lacking mobility and consistent defensive abilities puts them both in vulnerable situations against flanks. And I'm not sure about Kiriko. Her tp is spammable, and suzu is defensive. Her heal and dmg output are more effective at close range. Along with suzu, her ability to peel is actually pretty good. I imagine she'd fit in as a dive support. Tp allows her to get in with the dive, secure a kill, then tp out to her flex who should be anchored in the backline. But then her mechanical skill is so high that mains might not be able to make use of her in the same way flex players can, which may be more of a factor in OWL. Edited to add that ana and Moira are not effective peels in OWL. Ana sleep is nice but it's a one shot. And Moira is only effective as a duelist in lower ranks where ttk is high. Though she can self peel with fade, she struggles to do so for her partner in higher ranks. But again, these are not clear cut roles.

Something to keep in mind about brig - yes she needs to be somewhat near the front line, but you'll die reeeaaaal quick if you're charging right at enemies. Moira is great if both teams aren't incredibly skilled. Your team will tend to take more damage and need more healing. The opponent usually won't start anti'ing you hard, and if their aim isn't regularly finishing off your allies, then you can always keep healing them back up. You can also escape to safety and heal yourself with the orb. However, I find that in the higher ranks, her lack of utility and burst damage really starts to show. People can burst you down before you fade from hitting low health, and you aren't going to be winning duels the way you can against bad players.

All of this might seem like the most basic of things that need not be said, but recently got back into overwatch after not playing it for years, and some things I learned for those on console at least: Kiriko has specific settings for her healing - toggle or hold. If you want more control and be able to cancel your healing in a tight pinch, switch the setting so you're not throwing all of your healing when you use the ability. Teleport/Suzu makes a great combo for heading off to apply pressure and then zipping to a teammate in need (as long as you're not placing yourself in an unwinnable situation). For Ana, I think it was pointed out, but she does have some leeway when it comes to healing teammates while scoped. When hip-firing, her biotic dart has travel time before it hits a target. I think she also has settings for tolerances on her Nano and hit confirmation. Zen is fun. Play more Zen. Mercy uh... I haven't played Mercy, but I figure Mercy mains play her with indirect malicious intent as an incentive to damage boost more often, but a rare Chad Battle Mercy moment can definitely help in a clutch. I think Lucio has a backwards wall run setting? All of this probably seems braindead-levels of obvious, but Kiriko and Ana after not playing forever are my go-to, and I'm slowly learning Zen. And for the most boring and obvious tip - never get caught without cover, or you're definitely gonna feel like you're playing Dead By Daylight instead of Overwatch. Going from having a second tank that can peel to - at least in lower ELO - no help at all is already way more difficult, and not having cover will make it even harder. If your Support has an escape, use it judiciously when you get dived on, because Dive comps will definitely go for you first. That said, support is fun. Having the lives of my teammates in the palm of my hand is a fun concept in itself, and keeping the team alive to make sure we win feels more fun than playing DPS. So have fun as a support!! ... And be malicious about it. >:)

for new players: main heal vs off heal and all that crap is pretty much pointless to consider, basically how much damage your team is taking should be irrelevant to your pick, your job is to help them but there exist plenty of players out there who die in spite of being healed by both healers at the same time with all the cooldowns and resources used on them. sometimes (most of the time) you don't save allies, hence why you get a special sound and a stat for when you do. ana: stay in the back, heal your team, use abilities offensively. nade is one of the strongest abilities in the game, and you want to drop it on enemies when they want to be healed to get maximum value--good nade usage is pretty much all you need to do to win as ana. consider enemy team comps; if the enemy has a tracer, winston, genji situation, keep both your abilities for defensive purposes and never use both on offense. if the enemy has a kiriko, maybe hold off on the offensive nade until she uses suzu. the only time it's really acceptable to get in close to the enemy is if you have a hog, in which case just follow him around and nade everything he hooks. always fall back if you're attacked, away from the fight but still within sightlines of your team. the further away you are, the harder to kill you are. bap: basically ana but easier damage output and easier to heal with. use him when you have a lot of allies playing close together (ex. with reinhardt, zarya, or junker queen), and keep immortality field as a counter to enemy ults, especially enemy tank ults. use his ult for more healing and more damage; not enough bap players use his ult for the extra healing output. it can genuinely turn a losing fight into a winning one. your allies will go from practically no hp to almost full instantly if you heal them through your ult, and you should pretty much always just drop your ult at your feet for your own usage, don't try to combo it with other shit. also you can use every single one of his abilities at the same time, so if all else fails just roll your face across your keyboard and you'll be fine. his damage output is also really strong for a support, so try for kills when you can. moira: right now moira's offenses are technically better than her healing output, but she has the highest healing output in the game. her heal is 70 hp per second, her heal orb heals a ton too, and she can ult for even more healing. however, sometimes you just need to throw a damage orb instead or use ult aggressively. use healing orb, her self heal, and fade to sustain yourself, and try to be the first player to ult in the match and in every fight when you have ult. moira ult forces a ton of cooldowns and just generally wins fights easily. also he didnt say this, but melee does more damage than moira's right click damage. you won't self heal if you use melee, but you do kill quicker. mercy: don't use mercy, but if you have to, make sure you have someone to damage boost and remain damage boosting them. damage boost injured allies, and damage boost more than you heal, or at least aim for 50/50 between damage boost/healing. valkyrie does nothing, just use it if you're going to die to save yourself, or use it to res safely. don't die. you shouldn't die as any support because that's really sad and bad and you will cause your team to lose, but ESPECIALLY as mercy do not die and most of all do not try to save allies or go for a dangerous res if it would cause you to also die. brig: press right click to stop yourself from dying. brig's shield is her best ability, and the more you shield, the better. play near corners but remain close to the backline in case they get pressured. use your cooldowns to stop enemies from getting too close, and use packs to support distant allies. inspire is garbage, just treat it like self-healing, although you can use whip shot to proc inspire before you engage. still, it only heals 15 hp a second for 1 second. it's the lowest healing in the game. brig, like mercy, is one of those healers you really, really don't wanna die as. you shouldn't die as brig if you use your abilities right because you have a fucking shield and bash to escape AND self healing. lucio: speed boost your team around. speed boost into fights, speed boost out of fights, speed boost to save allies, speed boost to secure kills. speed boost. also if you get really good at wallriding, just start killing the enemy backline. you're really hard to hit as lucio, probably the hardest to hit character in the game, even at point blank range. kiriko: suzu your allies out of enemy bullshit, use ult like bap ult to either heal faster or deal more damage, and consider most of all where you place it. this is one of the few supports you should get kills on. one of kiriko's main utilities is her damage output, and if you don't get kills, you might as well choose a different support. zen: again, like kiriko, you have to get kills on zen. besides that tho, just place your discord orb on the enemy tank and your harmony orb on the allied tank and you should win every fight unless you somehow die before the enemy tank does. discord and harmony are the most brainless abilities in the game, and they create a ton of value for literally just pressing e and shift on people. like ana, the further back you are the harder you will be to kill, but of course it becomes harder to hit your shots too.
@Pac2362 жыл бұрын
Fellow Zen players. Don't forget harmony and discord will stay on the target after you break Los for 3 seconds. Try to bait out enemy ults before you use Transcendence. You can animation cancel a 5 volley of orbs Don't be afraid to melee any flankers who are low. With discord on them enemies will take up to 55 dmg (if I did the math right) For other supports. Ana: you can ping sleeping targets for your team Also it wasn't in the video but nano boost also instantly heals the teammate for 300 hp Brig: idk if you still can but you used to be able to proc inspire from wrecking ball's minefield. Kiriko: never use suzu on yourself. You can cleanse yourself with your teleport which has a significantly lower cooldown. Here are the ults you can counter with suzu JunkerQueen Dva bomb Rein Shatter Bastion artillery High noon Pulse bomb Blizzard Rip tire Suzu also cleanses Ana nade and sleep dart. Also use rush down straight aways as it decreases cooldowns and increase attack speed and boosts movement speed. It'll help your team engage and more than likely win the fight.

Nice video! I'd like to add though as a mercy main, that most top500 and gm players will tell you that you DONT pick her for her healing, but for her damage boost. She's somewhere between a main and off healer, as bap ana and moira do a lot more healing than her. If you are stuck dealing with the bulk of the heals as mercy...you're better off swapping to another support that does heal a lot. Her job is to never die and make her team's damage more oppresive + gain faster ults through her blue beam :)

I think that the "easy or hard to learn" system is good, but its a bit lacking in nuance. Someone like Kiriko i think is easy to play and get value out of, but if you really want to utilize all parts of your kit she's very difficult to play. Anyone can get random headshot kills and pump healing ofuda into tanks, not everyone can hold and time a perfect suzu to save a vital team member. Whereas someone like Zen, he is very basic and you need to have strong fundamentals to get proper value out of him, but once you can properly play Zen you've gone most of the way to mastering him.

Mercy main here! For anyone who is new and trying to understand mercy theses are a few tips I can give. 1. Learn how to super jump. When you GA to a teammate you should see a bar on the right side of your screen, at any point you can press crouch to flinging you in the air. The more charged the meter is, the higher you’ll go. 2. Guides. Don’t underestimate guides! They really helped me to get better with mercy. Personally, I recommend watching most of @Niandra’s content. Along with any other position guides you can find. 3. Dont under use damage boost. Mercy has the ability to amplify a teammates damage by (at the time of writing this.) 25%. This can be a deadly tool and is one of the main reasons to pick mercy over anyone else. (Again, I would watch some of Niandra’s content for tips on damage boost.) 4. Raise sensitivity. By default, all hero’s sensitivity is pretty low. But you won’t get a lot of value out of mercy if you have low sensitivity. Which is why it’s important to raise it. What you want as your sensitivity all comes down to preference. But from experience, I can tell you that 30% and 15% won’t get you far. 5. Don’t constant try and go for kills. I know that we’ve all seen at least one clip of a nano-mercy on TikTok and wanted to try it. But, mercy just doesn’t do enough damage, (unless you have a nano.) to be good. You don’t get a lot of value out of her gun so it’s usually just best to save it for defending yourself. Hope these help :)

Mercy has no burstheal and generally her focus is dps, and second sup, not tank. 55hp per sec is not strong compared to ana or moira
@zwordz2 жыл бұрын
Big facts she has no burstheal, she definitely could still be used as the off-support in OW2 next to a stronger healer; she doesn’t have the best heals ever. She’s used as sec support at higher levels of play for specific reasons, but that’s mainly at higher play. This video is mainly for beginners. Imo she’s a good character to keep a team alive for many players new to support at a majority of ranks and with there being one less tank, she can still spend more time on DPS than before. Which supports do you think Mercy is a good duo with ?

I could be wrong, but I believe Kiriko's healing is around 15-20 hps higher than Mercy (70-something vs 50-something); so if Mercy is in the main healer group Kiriko likely should be as well. She can flex between focusing more on healing or not depending on who the other support is (much like Bap).

Hey guys Zen main here, just a quick tip, if you decide to play Zenyatta, you won't do as much healing and that is ok, do not let anyone in your team talk you down because you don't have the 16k healing of a Mercy, your damage and your healing should honestly be rather close cause that is where the usefulness of the hero is, do not get upset if people trash talk your Zen, it takes a steep learning curve, but I promise to you, after you learn how to use him, you will only look down on all the DPS heroes that are not taking advantage of discord orb, and every actually good DPS will love you and call you Chad for picking Zen and helping them out with damage
@yasmeenw7227 Жыл бұрын
I agree! When I play as mercy, I'm counting on the other healer to help with damage bcus I sure am not lol as mercy I'm just focused on heals and if an enemy is close enough, I'll deal a couple shots. As zen there is so much more freedom to do more damage but it can be more stressful due to the amount of heal u can deal, specially with a team that doesn't give a damn about the orb of discord
@kuratse2052 жыл бұрын
As a brig main, the whip is the strongest most powerful thing on planet earth. It isnt niche. It is about thrice as long as her melee range, and does 70 dmg. When playing brig, you can duel multiple supports (or a single dps), and win the duel about 70-80% of the time. Brigitte suffers most from her limited melee range, which makes it practically impossible to fight enemies from long range, but when the enemy enters brig range (about 20m), you can outrun them and end them in only 3 swings, a shield bash, and a whip. This really makes her more of a dps support that can assasinate targets before they get away. This hyper agressive playstyle has its caveats though, with being the most prone to death thing in the universe and the ridiculous amount of POTGs you will get. Out of the past 20 (COMPETITIVE) games I have had with brigitte, I have gotten about 16 POTGs. Its just absolutely ridiculous. The only thing that can best a brigitte and gain the POTG is team wipes. Brigitte can obtain about 3-4 elims from popping her ult at the right time. And you are basically immortal unless you get ultied back or have literally everyone on the enemy team targeting you.

@1nutmegg Жыл бұрын
Kiriko heals much more than mercy, yes kiriko goes on flanks for kills and tps back but every supp provides some kinds of dmg, other than mercy but still that doesnt make her a main supp, her healing output is very low (Only reason ur plat mercy might have more heals than ur ana, is mercys movement, making her not die so she constantly can be there and help ur team. While ana might not be hitting all her shots or not having the best postitioning or for example just getting dove alot... or mercy is healbotting, witch no support should ever do especially not mercy)

Brig main here. It is tricky to play Brig because it's very deceitful the way Blizzard makes you think how you should play her. For Brig, you must prioritize your life, play around hard cover (or at least, you tanks as cover), use health pack for critical situation, don't prioritize Inspire, and use Rally aggressively if you see an opportunity. Overall, she's effective against flankers, if play to perfection can solo a tank and take out squishies.
@AngyRoar2 жыл бұрын
The video is good but there are a few false information in there. First Moira has no lock on, you can check a video by KarQ from a year ago in which he reviews the hitboxes of every ability in the game. Its a simple beam with custom hitboxes. Also her damage is actually very low, the lowest of all supports at a mere 55dps which means that it takes more than 3 full second to kill someone with it. This leads me to Mercy who does not have a subpar DPS, each bullet deals 20 damage and she can fire 5 per second, this means she has a base 100 dps, which can go up to 200 if you headshot which is not that hard considering the size of her ammo hitbox. Even with the reload it's a base dps of around 80 which is actually quite high among supports. Then there's Brigitte, never actually try to frontline with her, you'll just die very quickly and you wont do anything. Brig should be played in your team backlane as a "protector" for your other support, basically never leave their side. You should proc her passive with her whipshot which has a pretty good range and a low enough CD to have Inspire almost always up. Finally Zen does not move slower than other heroes. All heroes except Tracer and Genji have the exact same speed : 5.5. Genji and Tracer are the only two with a different one at 6.0. Also it could be argued that Mercy isnt really a main healer, while she does have very consistent healing she has no form of burst healing which is kind of the main characteristic of main healers. She and Kiriko have roughly the same amount of hps, and they are both in between main and off healer 🤔
@zwordz2 жыл бұрын
Hell yeah ! Thanks for clarifying those things. To further clarify, when I said Mercy had low DPS output, I didn't mean, "her gun doesn't do good damage", I meant that her total damage by the end of the game would be low. If there is a Mercy at there that can get 8-9k damage consistently by the end of the match, I'd be impressed. Otherwise, I deffo encourage Mercy players to pull out the glock when they need too. She could fit off-healer role too admittedly, but really for players new to the game, the healing beam will be enough as players grow their understanding of the game. Apologies for the minor errors in the video, really my target audience for this video are completely new players or players that hadn't touched the game since 2016-2017.
@AngyRoar2 жыл бұрын
@@zwordz dont worry I get it ! But I think beginning the game as Mercy is almost a mistake, she teaches you nothing about the game, if anything she'll give bad habits. Moira's à much better character to begin as a support ! Same thing for Brig really, she seems easy but since she's all about positionning you could really get bad habits by playing her too early. And yeah Mercys usually dont take out their gun because they'll get flamed if they do, but she's low key a amazing counter to Widow especially in Valkyrie. The best advice I can give is, if you're under attack and everyone in your party is above mid health, just turn on whoever's attacking you and start shooting at them instead of flying around aimlessly.

It you're new to Overwatch... Ana is an advanced character imo. You have to understand a lot of aspects of the game to player her effectively. Ditto for Zenyata. I'd suggest taking a support with a maneuverability gimmick. Moira, Lucio, and Mercy will all feel comfortable for new folks. There's still a lot to learn as far as ult timing and personal survivability, but you won't be getting preyed on if you have a reliable escape. I personally think Baptiste is closer to an advanced character than a newbie friendly one. You kinda HAVE to balance in a decent amount of dps with your heals to get true value from Bapt. His immortality toy requires good gamesense to be effective. His dps is hitscan and can be tricky to master too.
