I hard agree with everything everything you expressed. I bought my 22 BRZ in December, the same month that you did and have 16k miles on the Odo and 5 track days. I've owned and tracked everything from clapped out motor swapped Hondas, brand new ///M cars (sold a 2018 M3 Comp before I picked up this BRZ), and everything in between. The BRZ is 100%, by far, my absolute favorite all around car that I've ever owned. I'm the type of nerd that spends several hours each month just building out pretty much every single sports car on the market on their manufacture's websites, just to see what they come out to, and how excited I get thinking about ordering it. I can say with confidence that there is no better daily/track car on the market for less than double the money, and cost of ownership. In the past I've had a bad habit of swapping out my cars about every 8 months. This is the first time I have felt truly content with a car. I don't have the itch to get something different anymore (at least for now 😅) and coming from an old, track rat with a car buying addiction, that is saying a LOT.

Thanks for your perspective - I too swap out cars every years or so and always start getting the itch for something different after about 8 months... I've got 600 miles on my BRZ and I'm really satisfied (even with limiting the revs during break-in) and it seems like a lot of car for the money these days. After tons of older German cars it's nice having a new car with modern tech and the sophistication of current chassis design - I'm amazed at how compliant the suspension is over large bumps (I have the Premium with the 17" wheels for my horrible roads).

Keep it. Your going to gravitate toward the economy enthusiast market either way (CTR, ITR, GR Corolla), put money into this platform first. Modifying the vehicle you have is cheaper then buying something and starting from scratch.

Agreed about modification being a way to augment the experience, enhance, raise limits, and enjoy more without buying another car. However, devil’s advocate states that modification will possibly lose you more money than tax, depreciation, and acquisition of a new car. Also, modification is rarely without trade offs. My ND2 was $35K out the door brand new, and about $25K later, I ONLY want to drive it on track because it is a one-dimensional vehicle. It’s a surgical weapon and nothing else. My M2C, on the other hand, has minimal mods and is a blast on public roads, very practical and comfortable, and very capable on the track. If one can be discerning about the mods to any car, then it can pay off. I believe the articulated goal in Mr. Zygrene’s case is to retain street manners while keeping the car track-viable. Out of the box, the BRZ impresses in this regard.

Custom roll protection (RF), seats, restraints, motor mounts, sways, control arms, differential brace, short shifter, headers, tube, intake, tires and wheels, garmin catalyst, custom steering wheel, high quality coilovers, 6-piston big-rotor brake kit and big two-piece rotor rear kit, tower braces, oil cooler, trans cooler, subframe bracing, and the list keeps going from there.

Accurate assessment of the BRZ. I rented one on Turo for four days and did some canyon and commute miles with it. Excellent drivers’ car with great inputs, decent tactility, and a sufficiently lightweight feeling that translates to tossability and driving near or at the limit as though one has intimately known the car for much longer than one in fact has. Truth be told is that I had one on order to maybe replace my M2 Competition (manual). The BRZ is stunning for the money, but the M2 does everything the BRZ does, except better and with much more refinement. This matters a lot to me since I don’t trailer my cars did the long drives to and from track. The BRZ interior, the solidity of mechanical components, and the combined engine-chassis competence were notably downmarket from the M2. A major bummer was how a rear facing car seat for my one-year-old was pretty much unworkable. This is the only reason why I had to cancel my Evora GT order a year and a half ago. Ended up cancelling my BRZ order, but let’s keep in mind that the BRZ is absolutely comparable in driving precision, track readiness, and enjoyment compared to the M2 (which costs literally double the BRZ’s MSRP). And with far lower consumable costs. There’s not much higher praise for the BRZ, in my opinion. Phenomenal car, but for those who have already been in the upmarket space with multiple recent performance cars (P cars, Lotus, M cars, etc.), it’s tough to give up the benefits of the higher-dollar products. For those looking to spend less than $45K, BRZ is the best game in town (if an ND2 isn’t workable).

I have a 2021 BMW 230i XDrive. It is 700 lbs heavier than my 2023 BRZ, which I assume is roughly the same as the M2. I CANNOT see how an M2 does everything better than the BRZ given that 700 lb weight difference. The M2 cannot be as tossable, cannot carve tight corners with the zero body roll and precision that my BRZ provides.

You’re correct if you’re referring to ease of oversteer control and very low speed fun, but incorrect when it comes to road course use. I’ve driven both in stock form enough to appreciate the talent and undeniable appeal of the BRZ. The M2C takes the cake if one is willing to take a heavier dance partner in exchange for old-man utility and comfort. I have a purely track car for when I want “raw.” The M2C is a bit more compromised than the BRZ, granted. However, its short wheelbase, some added camber. and sizable brakes help it hide the weight. To me, the M2C is like a BRZ for older dudes who want the compromise. For the record, M2C is extremely tossable, and is much more controllable (on both track and street) than the torque figures would suggest. I implore you to take one for a spirited rip.

Kindred spirit here, former NB owner (track and mostly autocross tool) that was traded up to mk6 R 9 years ago (cause the wife was ready for kids and back seats) and sorely missed until I got into my ZD8 4 months ago. I was contemplating an M2C right when Covid hit but decided to keep the R because at this point quite emotionally invested (and dialed-in at the tune of 25k in performance mods). She would have to go for new M2, yet thankfully the price of the BRZ meant she could stay, so here we are! Your points on the comparison of the two (M2C and BRZ) made me feel real good about the decision. Thanks!

Great garage you have, especially given the practical constraints in your situation. The ZD8 is half the cost of an M2, but probably about 90% of the car. The value is unmatched in today’s market. Good call to keep the R and add the BRZ! Sometimes I contemplate an AWD car. My last AWD was a B9 S4 for daily commute, but I quickly found the RS3 and the Golf R are far superior in driving dynamics, especially with some camber and a stiffer rear sway bar. People forget that AWD cars and FWD cars do in fact rotate, just with different inputs and sometimes for a nominal fee (e.g. geometry and suspension mods). Glad you’re getting your kicks as a driver and enjoying your family. That’s awesome!

You nailed my thoughts EXACTLY in this video and why I'm 10+ years into the 86. I love trying different platforms. I've owned FR (350z), MR (987.2 Boxster S), AWD (STI hatch), and FF (mk6 GTI, various Hondas). I've driven/tracked friends' cars (E46/F80 M3, S2000's, Miatas, Evos, Audi S/RS, etc.) They were all fun in their own way so I never understood why anyone would ever own the same car twice. But after owning my modded e85 FR-S for 10 years, when it came time to replace it, I knew I'd end up back in a 2nd gen. As fun as other cars are to experience, I keep coming back to the 86 platform. Nothing checks as many boxes for a trackable, practical lightweight RWD car under $50k. It's my blessing and my curse lol. If I was forced to switch to something else, I'd probably buy a used C7 Z51 or GS. You give up the small size of the BRZ, but the C7 platform is otherwise well balanced/playful, surprisingly refined, and fast. Worth a drive. Might consider the Supra 3.0 MT. But if I was you, I'd wait to see how much power the 2nd gen BRZ makes tuned on E85. That added about 25 whp to the 1st gen, which would put the 2nd gen around 240 whp. Could be a game changer.

Seems like the smart play is run the BRZ another year, let the market settle down price wise. The Supra 3.0 is now available with a manual, and the Corolla GR with a manual both would be great options if you want a manual transmission.

My BRZ now has 15,000 miles and just did my third oil change. Love my car and can’t say enough about the engagement or versatility of my BRZ. I do not track my car and I even have my rev limiter set to warn me at 6800 rpm. “elephant “ in the room !! Oil consumption, yes I do need to add oil between oil changes. I did break in my car gently as I have so many times, 2 WRXs and not any oil added but this BRZ is a whole different breed of car. Subaru has never built an engine with such high compression and high redline until Toyota came into the room so to speak. My manual even tells me that it’s normal to use Oil !! Not normal in my eyes of car ownership, 3 generations of Mazda Miatas and my first two were Supercharged and high miled with no oil consumption. My personal opinion is that Toyota engineers designed this engine with lightweight internals and low tension piston rings to make power and quick power, yes it revs so easy and RTV is NOT the issue for engine failures, it taking the flat 4 Boxer over the redline on a track. It’s so rev happy that most guys do not have the warning buzzer on. It’s a fabulous car that is impossible to replace but I am having trouble with checking my oil every day on a trip. It’s not normal but I insist on a full crankcase of oil. I don’t think that those who say they don’t add are wanting to talk about it but it’s there, BRZ/GR86 do use oil, it’s the nature of the breed as one Subaru Mechanic who owns one told me.

I've owned AP2, M3's, and other driver-centric cars. I am considering this vehicle for the same reasons you stated in the video. I think this vehicle will solve the issues I had when I owned my ap2; usable torque for dd, extra seats and larger trunk space, great driving dynamics.

From a daily drivability and hoonability, I’ve also had a hard time finding a better car. While one could get a Supra, SS 1LE, or M2C, as you mentioned these cars have much higher limits and costs. The higher limits truly take away from the level of fun on street. Just getting into traffic or illegal speeds faster 🤷🏻‍♂️. Thanks for your videos btw! Have been enjoying them, especially the comparisons to the Miata and S2k. Hopefully I’ll have my own and be out at Sonoma Raceway later this year!

Agreed when it comes to street fun. I’m able to discreetly oversteer my M2C in a whole lot in low-speed situations on the street, but lower-HP, lightweight cars do take the cake in terms of everyday fun without heaving to the track or canyons. My ND2 was phenomenal at this, until I raised the limits to racecar levels by pouring massive time and money into it. I kind of miss the streetable fun of my ND2 now. Anyway, point taken!

Add stiffer springs (Eibach, RoadsterSport, etc.) and maybe front and rear sway bars. This is the mild and cost-effective solution. Coilovers (even the Zeta CRD) would be another step up. These are solutions that won’t starkly compromise street comfort but will introduce greater body control. The weight transfer will feel more immediate and less surprising, without necessarily reducing the on-road fun at low speeds. The rear is more happy to rotate with stiffer suspension or rear sway as well. Max out your front camber as well. This will enhance the eagerness of turn-in. Good luck!

I'd say definitely keep the BRZ. BRZ and GR86 are THE only affordable new 2+2 RWD sports cars that come with manual transmission and mechanical parking brake. Can't believe this description is a luxury in this day and age...

Subbed for the BRZ track content. Honestly I think you've found the sweet spot and there might not be anything better. The car industry is changing and there might not be a better single vehicle for driver mod + practicality. The 718 cayman is regarded as a more precise and rewarding drivers tool. And the SS 1LE would deliver faster track times. But both of those are $$$. I think the new BRZ/86 is a terrific sweet spot. Seriously considering owning one as a 2nd vehicle for track day learning and occasional summer commuting some day. Looking forward to more of your thoughts and experiences!

It's such a shame that they didn't give the new BRZ/GR86 double wishbone front suspension, similar to the old honda DC2 integra & civic designs. With the extra front track of the new twins it should have been easy. Just looking at the space between the strut tops and front fenders it looks like there's plenty of room. It could have made this platform truly unbeatable... Oh well.

Porsches and M cars have a McPherson Strut in the front and they are the best handling cars in the world, I really don't think it's an issue

@@1Solace they are good IN SPITE of the mac strut because of their INSANE proprietary designs, chassis and driving balance dynamics. As soon as the latest 911 generation went double wishbone in the front it lopped nearly 10 seconds off its Nurburgring time and EVERY reviewer was gushing about how much better and nicer it handled!!! Cope harder cuckold.

Love your videos. Owned the BRZ for 7 months and I love it just like you. The suspension, the steering, the engine, and how wonderful it is to look at and be in. The RTV issues are affecting BRZ as well, in fact _every_ car reported when checked has the issue. Its totally part of the design, if you are tracking it like yourself, just at some point get your pan dropped by Subaru or a registered mechanic and get it cleaned out, then you will be good and just not worry.

I got a GR86 about two months ago, and feel much the same way. I don't track this car, but it is my daily, and I can't wait to drive this thing every day. I've never looked forward to driving from place to place quite like I do now.

Agree with you. BRZ has been a hard act to follow. I also have an M2 and I can say that both cars are indeed far different in their approach. My plan for this BRZ is 1 Million miles.

One of my good friends works at SPL here in Austin. His boss is a driving instructor and I spoke with him a few times. They recently acquired a GR86 and put the whole kit on it. He was dead serious each time he told me it was the best driving car he's ever been in. He passes up the GT3, GT4 and M2 Comp on a regular basis for that GR86. Saying he sold me on the car is an understatement

Brother, if that's your first new car, why not keep it for a while? If you love it so much, then it just makes sense to. As you grow as a driver, that car is perfect, as it can grow with you and still serve you faithfully. That's the beauty of the BRZs and 86es.

As a fellow WRB ‘22 BRZ owner; I totally agree! I have 11k on mine and it is actually impressive how good this car is from both a daily and enthusiast perspective. The ride and suspension tuning in the BRZ (esp vs the gr86) is genuinely surprisingly good for a $30k car. And I haven’t tracked my car quite as much as you, but it’s been brilliant for me in my 3 days so far. I’d keep it going! Personally I think the new twins will be pretty coveted long term - due to how good they are and how few they’ve been able to build. Idgaf about the RTV issue either (it’s pretty overblown mostly bc Toyota were trying to weasel out of it) - I initially wanted to drop my car after 2 years, but I am pretty sure it will become my toy and get modified/boosted once I need a bigger daily as the family grows.

The motorsport community around this platform in particular is among the best out there. If that factors into your enjoyment and values in owning any make or model, I'm not sure what car that's currently being produced and sold can match it.

Owned a 19 SS 1LE, had a first gen BRZ and a FIST. The 1LE was an incredible car, but running costs suck. Tires are $1600 easy, oil changes are expensive as it takes like 10qts IIRC. Brakes…not sure but imagine those would be pricey given their size It made a bad ass daily but running costs are definitely not cheap, especially if it’s going to be a daily and track car. Not much out there new that fits the bill if you don’t want FWD or a Miata. Porsche is about the only thing left.

I think I go through the same dilemma but with a different use case on my Elise. It’s too good for the money and operating costs. It’s orders of magnitude more $ to find a similar experience and fizz.

SS/1LE gets my vote. That Alpha chassis with Multilink suspension and 1LE goodness is a force to be reckoned with. The SS/1LE and ZL1/1LE are the best M cars on sale today. History will be kind to them.

I just picked up a 23' BRZ. I'm still in the break in period and can already feel how amazing this car is. Looking forward to my first track day. Note, I have a 16' STi and you can feel how much lighter and playful this car is.

I think your assessment is really fair. I'd love to own a CTR or a GRC as a practical, fun daily, but not as my primary drivers-car car. The only other new car in the segment that offers a lot of parallel experiences, with enough differentiating qualities to make it a unique experience, is the ND, and you'd probably know by this point if you'd want to give that a try. After driving and modding the ND for a couple years, I've come to really love it much more than I expected to or initially did, and really think that a properly modded ND is just about the perfect, reasonably-priced, drivers car out there right now. If you don't think there's enough value add in the driving dynamics of the ND to make up for the practicality of the BRZ, then the decision is basically made for you, haha; as you said, in that regard the twins sit in a category of 1, much like the ND does in my opinion.

I know you said you don’t want a hot hatch, but the top end Golf R with drift mode. That car is stupidly fast, like crazy fast stock. 12.3 sec quarter mile, 0-60 in 4 seconds flat. It is practical, it drives beautifully, and on canyon roads, especially in damp or wet conditions, i don’t think we can see many cars (including supercars) that can beat it. One of the fastest daily car you can buy.

Keep the BRZ. It has the best seating position and 2nd best handling characteristics in that price range. (The best handing is the MX-5, but the seating position isn't as good.)

@@chaseespinoza4288 Both NBs, NB 1 had the build engine, AVO kit "MX-5 Accleration test 2" Thats my car on low boost if you wanna check it out on KZbin I have a 2023 BRZ order now 6 month wait, can't wait to be back in a sports car

Dude you pretty much have the same perspective as me!! As a GR86 owner I feel like you hit nail, and for me the only car I’d like to upgrade to is a GR Supra. As for RTV it’s not a huge deal for me either as it’s not an expensive thing to fix. Shouldn’t be an issue but it’s a cheap fix but also Toyota in SoCal have affirmed me that if something happens to me engine that it is covered by default under drivetrain warranty. If Toyota refuses please reach out to corporate, as my corporate had notified me that Toyota will cover any engine that blows if they can find that RTV was the issue.

To determine if its time to move on, answer simply one questions - are you done with the car? Have you done everything you wanted to do with it, and if the car still surprises on daily basis? If it's too boring and unevenful, then it's time to look for new platform. BUT there is nothing else like BRZ on the market at this point.

Well said and could not agree more. Just crossed 4.5k with my zd8, which is also daily so I can go easy on my old lady (mk6 R project of love). After couple north GA mountain runs and a solid day at Road Atlanta, she feels hand-in-glove. The car is such a lovely nod to the FR’s of the late 90s and early 00s. I got all the same smiles (and slides) of being 25 again, while sparing me all that NVH of my heavily modded NB Miata. And prob the last affordable FR with pure “mechanical” handling and character when the nannies are off. The graphic on the left button in the middle console is going to fade quick from all the heavy presses… Yeah, keeping her for years and for my kiddos to learn on proper driver’s car when it will either all be EV or the right ICE’s will be out of reach.

Well stated about the NVH. It’s something that often comes as a tradeoff with modding a car, and sometimes it’s like a frog boiling in water… it creeps on you and before you know it, you feel like jumping out of the freaking thing. Okay, clearly I’m personalizing. But glad you found the BRZ scratches a similar itch but without the same drawbacks! I felt that way with the new BRZ.

Glad it's been more of a positive experience than negative for you so far! This platform looks great, as you mentioned, for beginners and advanced drivers alike...plus it's the classic FR format and has good specs all around. Of course we're excided for the GR Corolla and all it has to offer, but I suspect that'll be a different experience itself and not to mention the MSPR being higher (and the inevitable markups), the GR86/BRZ are a better value it seems for that 'duel purpose' option. I've had my heart set on a ND but I really need a long-term loan on one to see if long-term comfort will work with me being taller. It's not so much cargo space as it is can I sit in this for 2-3 hours straight? But if not, then the second gen twins are a no-brainer and most people have never wished for less cargo capacity :P cheers!

Manual Supra would be a no-brainer for me if it had a backseat for a car seat. I’d trade my M2C in just out of insatiable curiosity and having seen many A90 Supras at the track punching above their class.

The new M2 is said to be more planted and have a bit less a sense of humor. I’m curious whether the ZF 8-speed will have a higher take rate than the manual due to the even heftier weight and less play built in.

People I know warn me about long term ownership issues with blown head gaskets. Is this still something of worry with the 2023 BRZ? I have never owned a Subaru before or a turbo assisted car. I am older and will not be tracking or racing my car, but I still really enjoy a manual transmission and spirited driving. Especially in one that can give you good fuel mileage and fun under most speed limits. I have owned high horsepower cars but no longer want the risk factor for tickets while trying to enjoy what they can do and also I am spoiled to better fuel mileage.

BRZ/GR86 is tired already (big yawn) and over saturated with content with many content providers finding their numbers dwindling after switching to this platform. I can't blame you for wanting something a little more original. I'd go for something with real tuning potential like the new Type R or GR Corolla.

In 1972 I drove a a Lotus Europa of that same year. It was yellow, which I quickly came to loathe. But that car was the most incredible handling car EVER! But like the greedy dummy that I was, somebody offered me $2000 more than I paid, so I sold it. I figured I'd get a John Player Special with more power and flashy graphics. Unbeknownst to me, the wait list was 2 years long! I have lamented that stupid transaction my entire life. Don't let this be your, "The One That Got Away"!😢

Aside from the GR Corolla I can’t think of anything under $40k to replace your BRZ. Personally I also thought about a V6 Camaro with the track suspension option but they eliminated that for 2022.

If drive reviews are to be believed, the GR Corolla isn't going to scratch your specific driver involvement itch unless you go with the Morizo. At that point though it's become a one-dimensional thing and gone too far into "track day toy" territory. Keep the BRZ I reckon.

Morizo has a couple real treats baked in, but the dealer markups will be unreal, and every trick of the Morizo’s can be fitted at lower cost via the aftermarket. The Core edition with performance pack is the true, everyday man’s/woman’s track-enthusiast spec, in my estimation.

I wanted a brz or gr86. Couldn’t find one. My local Chevy dealer got a brand new 2023 LT1 camaro in, called to see if I wanted it, and then sold it to me for Msrp! No strings attached. Now I’m driving a v8 beast.

I would keep it. Sounds like you really like it and serves your needs well. Just drive it and enjoy. When you become better and you have increased your income then money will not be an issue by then. You will have lots of options during that time. For now just keep driving and build yourself up to gain more access financially and enjoy what you like doing.

I can’t fault you keep or sell. I wouldn’t modify a DD. I’ve lost some $$$ doing that. I’d put the $ in the NSX and track it.

Maybe a few of you patrons of the BRZ can tell me why you chose it over the GR86? My understanding is that the BRZ can be purchased for less, and would provide me with better comfort for a daily driver as I will not be tracking the car. Initially I thought more of the Toyota because of the front end and two years of free maintenance but I can do oil changes and tire rotations at home. Not worth paying extra for to get the GR86 in my case anyway. My other cars of interest to buy start with the Mazda3 Premium hatchback with the manual transmission as well as the Integra A-Speck manual, SI manual, and the Elantra N manual. I favor naturally aspirated motors because I trust them, never owned a turbo. My current daily driver is the 2006 Mazda3 sedan manual I purchased brand new. It has been very reliable, no troubles and it is still fun to drive. But I just retired and want something newer to replace it before this crazy world does away with manuals and ICE engines! That will be a disaster if everyone owns an electric vehicle.

Awesome video, really appreciate the information/feedback. I currently have 2 EVs as DDs ( eGolf is mine and Model 3 is wife's, but we both WFH ). My weekend/track car is the Evo X that was purchased brand back in 2008. I've only had 2 other cars the past 10 years which was a 13 BRZ and 16 F80 M3. I currently have a deposit at Longo for a GR86 but who knows when that gets fulfilled, I'm already probably 7-8 months into that deposit. What I really want is a 992 GT3, but I'm not willing to pay ridiculous markups for an allocation so who knows if that ever happens. The GR Corolla and new FL5 Type R are also really enticing options. I feel like the GRC has way too much over lap with the Evo and the CTR probably has more over lap than the GR86 would. We'll see how the market shakes out in a few months, at the end of the day, if I just keep the Evo, I'd be happy. If you really enjoy the BRZ, keep it a bit longer!

I'm just under 5k on mine that I got early in March and there's nothing I'd trade it for. I've done hot hatches before, the new Z doesn't impress, and I've tried Camaros and Mustangs before and they're just too big and I don't need 450+hp to go to work.

My GR86 is almost here and I'm worried about Minnesota winters. As long as I'm on some Michelin X-Ice's/Bridgestone Blizzaks will I be okay going through deep snow/black ice?

@@egorlike1324 idk how much you know about the Toyota Celica, but I've driven my 7th gen on WS70 Blizzaks with a 1.4"-1.5" drop on Tein S Tech springs, stock 16" wheels. Judging from what I saw with the GR86's ride height, it makes me a little more confident.

Go for the GR Corolla. I moved from prev gen GT86 to GR Yaris (I live in Europe) and the driving dynamics of AWD was a steep and interesting learning curve (still miss the GT86 public hooning, but with AWD grip and dynamics are on a different level)

The way dealers operate without regulation in the US, it’s safe to say you can enjoy American Freedom of ridiculous dealer markup. I wouldn’t be surprised if they try to double the cost of the car.

@@chaseespinoza4288 yes I do have it as a weekend/track car and is great out of the box. For track days the AWD is more capable and certainly appreciate it more. For drifting events it’s much harder than RWD (and the 70/30 split is nowhere close to a RWD)

Personally I don't think its wise to have a more expensive car as a daily. Its more to worry about and I feel much better knowing I can park my cheap car anywhere without stressing too much. We are about the same age and I've been through many many cars. I'm at the point where I'm happy with my s2k and crx. They will stay with me while I rotate a 3rd car for the experiences. Also gonna buy for investment purposes at the same time. In short if you like the brz keep it for another 40k miles or more and keep it mostly stock. Its not like its going to break. Just my 2 cents

Agreed about staying close to stock, if it’s tolerable for the driver. Modding virtually always introduces mechanical compromises and higher potential for failures and necessary work beyond the scope of a stock vehicle. If someone is willing to deal with the potential consequences, then right on.

With what you’re describing, best bet is to get a manual Supra. GR Corolla from all the reviews is all about stability. Nothings worst then getting a car that everyone hyped just to be disappointed.

One sit in the Supra killed any interest for me - it feels like sitting in a tank with a tiny slit view out the windshield - totally unacceptable. I've driven & owned many sports cars and have never seen such terrible confining-feeling front visibility. The BRZ doesn't suffer from this at all.

Personally, I am looking for an ND2 RF because the ECU is finally tuneable for boost. I currently have a ‘22 GR86 and ‘19 Miata ST. I aim to combine the better power and chassis of the GR with the better inputs and lighter weight of the miata into the new RF.

Great goal. You looking to go centrifugal (HKS) or roots style (Edelbrock)? Fab9 is killing it with tuning peak power on the HKS, but MiataSpeed is doing OEM-quality setups with Edelbrock’s E-Force blower (TVS series). I was about to order the HKS for the top end gains on my ND2, but I’m feeling burnt out. Went way too hard into race car mode. Hahahah Had I the opportunity to start over with the ND2, I might do an Edelbrock for the streetable mid-range gains, and gone less hardcore with the race modifications. Granted, the Edelbrock necessitates lowering the redline from 7,500 to 7,000, due to fueling limitations if you’re not swapping in Fab9’s bigger injectors. ND2 is an awesome platform. Can’t bring myself to seriously contemplate getting rid of mine.

Based on how you like the BRZ, I'm guessing either a manual Supra or Nissan Z. They have less seats, but rear cargo accessibility is better as they have hatches. I don't know if you've tried driving either platform, I sure haven't. In my case, I'm keeping the BRZ for as long as I can. It's the first car that I've owned where I can say "I don't need to mod this car much for it to be fun".

With used prices still relatively high, it’s hard to get into anything under 40k. A m2c lucky to find under 60k. Supras are right up there too.I think a car that many overlook,myself included, a c7 corvette with z51. I’m still learning about them

4:54 Class of two: with Miata being front engine, rear drive, and can be anywhere in the $30K range incl. the RF coupe/targa. But, hell yeah... a manual BRZ in that blue color is top of my shortlist to join my '91 MR2 and '88 300ZX Turbo [the latter was my dad's everyday driver, so it's an automatic, sadly.] Nice NSX in your garage, btw!!!

I would keep it personally. Such a great car at such a great price. Sadly everything new coming out is a lifeless electric. Only the upcoming Mustang Dark horse might fit your needs but I have a feeling it will be ridiculously overpriced ($60k) and that's before the stealership markup. Camaro SS 1LE might be in your price range barely but that is all that I could see performing better than your BRZ on a track that are new cars and somewhat in your price range. The new Z is a complete dud. Elantra N is fwd. CTR is fwd and will be ridiculously overpriced.

Its literally a 350Z with an Infiniti engine. It felt like a tuner car that wasn't fully vetted. Needs some serious work. Nissan only had 13 years to get it right haha

I think Honda may make a new s2000 with a 2.0T in the upcoming future, that would probably be the best step up. but for now, a used corvette, Camaro and mustang performance packages, used m2, Nissan z, supra, used Porsches.

No way. Honda is going off the environmental electric deep end. I was a loyal Honda owner for decades, but they have lost a customer. I have a GR86 on order. Honda has sadly lost the enthusiast narrative.

@@BlitzPig23 I know you're right to an extent, but I think Honda still has some life in it. The Honda Civic in Europe is using the K-series engine to power an electric motor in an "Hybrid Electric Vehicle" and the civic type r is still crowned the fastest production fwd car, so they definitely do still have some engineering prowess. They made questionable interior choices and put out an inadequate 1.5L Turbo engine instead of further developing a 2.5L like Toyota. Prices have gotten out of control like with their motorcycles.Honda definitely has an opportunity to revamp their everyday vehicle enthusiast image, but over the last generation they've made their shittiest vehicles and charged their highest prices. It is sad.

First off brother you are STILL a part of the S2000 community. Keep it up. This channel is one of the few that us weekend racers can really relate to. Your ownership approach to the BRZ is exactly how anyone who buys one should replicate. Use the car daily and enjoy the car for what it should be used for in the weekend. And finally just say it….”this car is better than the S2000”. We S2000 guys know it lol.

Only ones I can think of are CTR and GRC, but like you said in the video, hot hatches serve a slightly different performance demographic. Oh and the manual supra!

I daily drive my 2022 BRZ manual (my only car), honestly there's really nothing else out there that can compete as far as serviceable cargo capacity, driving dynamics and cost of ownership? I guess if I had another 10K to spend I'd probably look at a new Golf R, it has some rear drive trickery that allows it to rotate a bit. I plan on just keeping mine and possibly getting an EV hatch in future.

Gr86\brz’s front-face look was toned down to not look so aggressive and instead more mature whereas the new upcoming mustang stays aggressive af. This current gr/brz looks boring like a tesla. Your brz has trained you enough to step up the power. Get the new upcoming mustang gt or dark horse if you can afford it.

I have a Gen 1 BRZ unmodified for street fun. No track. Unfortunately I have the most fun with the BRZ than my 718 Spyder. Maybe I’ll grow into the Spyder…. Or maybe not. First world problems

I would hold off until you find out what Ecutek has in store. Throttle mapping and power can be improved to become more responsive. If the tuning potential doesn’t seem worth it then trade it in while your warranty is intact, but if you think the car can fit your needs as a long term dual purpose car, I’d get a tune

After spending some time with the 2.4L in the BRZ, I will admit that the throttle response was dull in comparison to my ND2 Miata. Needs a tune if for no other purpose than preciseness of throttle control.

@@chaseespinoza4288 try a Sprint Booster. Even my newer corvette has terrible tip in throttle response. I simply select a low setting on the Sprint Booster and it makes initial tip in so crisp and quick. The higher selections are too jerky and ruin the drive. Simple T plug in between gas peddle and it’s plug wire.

Point taken! Boosters can be helpful for sure, though they’re more useful on street than track, since they reduce precision and proportion of input at the end of pedal travel. Had one fitted to my Alfa 4C, my ND1, and to my Audi S4, and it seems to fare better with naturally aspirated motors (no wonder). The turbo motors needed more of a tune. I’d be curious to feel one out in a BRZ!

Before i bought my s2000, brz was part of my list.. it was first gen and the only thing i hated was the engine.. this new one seems to fix it, but still haven't driven one. I would keep it for now.. you love it so why get rid of it?

Glad to see you're tracking it, but are you purchasing Track Insurance (regular insurance does not cover track)? I'm waiting to see what they do about the RTV Sealant issue. Interesting to see it is more prevalent with Toyota than Subaru. Also, did you consider getting a used 981 Cayman instead? Great video - keep up the good work.

I purchase track insurance for track days that I consider to be higher risk, based on various factors. 981 Cayman is a great car but not practical enough for my needs, and too expensive to maintain.

Evora lacks the front trunk, but picks up the tiny back seat. Also, it’s midengine with a Toyota V6 and roots-style blower. Not bad on the wallet to maintain, of course assuming no body panel work is ever required. If it’s not a 2017+, you’d really need to do the cable shift linkage mod to eliminate the slop (like pretty much all Lotus cars).

Why dual purpose, when you can have a comfortable daily and a something more hardcore for track?

Point taken, but as someone who has done extremes of all kinds (including hardcore street, hardcore track, track-only, dual purpose, soft daily), there is something beautiful about a trackable yet street-mannered car that does it all. This is a massive reason why Porsche Carrie’s its reputation amongst the enthusiast community. Old retired dudes drive a GT3 to the track, beat on it, then drive it to the country club the next day. Even if one can ostensibly afford multiple cars for multiple purposes, simplicity can be a massive appeal. Cars like SS 1LE, 86/BRZ, Evora, Cayman, 911, and even ND Miata can achieve this.

@@chaseespinoza4288 Well, it was a rhetorical question. Of course a do-it-all car has its uses. But anything that's actually good on the street will just feel like a street car when driven on track. So "do it all" is a misnomer in my opinion - any compromise will be just that: compromised.

100% true. A dual purpose car that feels as raw and satisfying as my heart desires is nothing more than a figment of imagination. This is why I oscillate philosophies and change my garage quite often.

What are the performance cars coming out that you have your eye on? There's nothing really apart from the Elise and MX5 which is are much less practical as you already discounted more expensive cars like the M2C , Supra and Porsche and hot hatches.

I recently picked up a 2019 brz perf pack w 6k miles. After the summer I have now put 5k miles. Though I still don't have power, I'm still very much committed to keeping the car through the warranty for forced induction down the road. Could you imagine keeping yours that long and maybe boosting the BRZ?

Only drove an M240i on the road, so I can’t speak to track behavior or feel. If we leave aside the rather lifeless power steering rack, my 6-speed M2 Comp is a complete blast to hoon around but also to set serious lap times and hang for very long (>40 minute) sessions. It’s the best dual-purpose platform I’ve come across that has a backseat, small enough wheelbase, daily-worthy, and somewhat favorable weight distribution with a manual transmission. Camber and fluid/pads is all that you need. Highly recommend, but then again, I’m waiting for the day my daughter can be in a front-facing car seat so I can ditch M2C for an Evora GT. Driving the 400 blew my mind.

Do you think the reason the RTV issue appears to plague more GR86s than BRZs is because more GR86s are being sold? I thought the numbers were something like 1200+ GR86s sold each month vs 2-300 BRZs. Also, has there been documentation of an engine failure resulting from the RTV? I don't recall even Blake Alvarado's case (the one that set this whole hype train off) being confirmed as a result of the RTV blockage.

I mean what is out there in terms of light weight, front engine rear wheel drive, coupe that can track and daily for 30k ish? Ctr wrong wheel drive, gr corolla wrong wheel drive derived awd, miata a best alternative with compromised structual rigidity due to open top. Camaro, mustangs might have improved driving dynamics now but it is much bigger, longer, and heavier car. Upcoming M2 might be the next best thing with right size but it was always unnecessarily heavier car due to being a luxury premium coupe first before being a sports coupe
