The mental health part of this video is crazy relatable and that’s oddly comforting since I have so much respect for you and what you create. Knowing you can be successful and have support circles even while dealing with bad anxiety like that is really reassuring. The only reason I’m even able to comment this is because you also mentioned writing replies to things and immediately deleting them which I started to do just now before realizing the irony lol

I identify exactly how he feels, I delete most things I write online for the exact reasons he says. Does this sound dumb, who cares about my opinion, etc. He isn’t wrong about seeking help from medication or therapy. I’ve been on that train for years. It’s slow going, but it can get better.

I kind of just beat my head against the wall at times until everything goes numb. Oh, I also piss a lot of people off because I come across as an arrogant asshole when I outsmart people (or just find something worth picking apart) and my use of expressive words amplify that. Eventually, I grew to embrace it as a sort of duel that I learn from each time I fight with words. With every word I say in my head as I'm writing, another part of my brain is calculating the expected response and I, the ego, ultimately decide to omit or change anything depending on the recipients and my intentions. This goes with when I'm on the attack, defense, or simply engaging casually. There is only one person I don't do this with. Thinking about that, yeah. It's a learned behavior from a lifetime of fighting, having my back against the wall, or just generally not trusting anyone even though I really like to engage with people.
@lauralulu4444 Жыл бұрын
Same thing for me too! I'm constantly second guessing what I write on social media. It's so hard because people can't tell what tone of voice I have or what facial expressions I have. I also find my self deleting replies or even having to type it out first in my notes app and editing it there like I'm writing some novel lol. I also put emojis after everything to hopefully let people know how I feel.

You're such a rarity on this site while a lot of others don't seem to trust their audience you've always seemed like you wanted to connect. Not in like a parasocial manner but just let us know what's going on the surface level with you and the channel. I'd love to see you and Bradey do a light gameplay channel and your idea for having one video for multiple indie games isn't bad at all! Nitro Rad isn't just a name, it's a title only held by the raddest reviewer on KZbin! I don't mind seeing compilation videos every now and then, but I'll always prefer having one game per video, and I think it's okay if you can't talk about every single game you want to talk about. Really like the idea of having a second channel though, it's always a treat to see more of you and Brady. Getting exercise is definitely a huge struggle for anyone who works from home. It's good that you have the awareness to recognize that. Also, I think you would look really good with glasses, and if they help you see better then why not? That ending killed me xD. I started working on my mental health in my mid-20s. Therapy + medication that I eventually stopped needing. I had a decent 5-ish years of stability before my life's status quo got changed and anxiety went into overdrive. New career, new relationship, first apartment (those bills tho), new people (me? socializing???). Problems and fears that had never been challenged were suddenly challenged and I wasn't coping well. Not bad enough for medication, but definitely in need of more therapy sessions. Turning 30 got interesting. Medication is a trial and error thing and, for what it's worth, I never had problems. For me, life just felt less like a gauntlet. Hopefully this anecdote eases some worries. Take care!

As someone who was prescribed anxiety medication late in life, it’s important to find a brand of medication that works for you. The first one I tried would give me stomach aches, which is pretty bad since anxiety also causes stomach issues, but it’s all part of the process of finding something that you feel comfortable with. Hope you find something that works for you, and I can’t wait for any new videos that you make in 2023.

I actually really relate to a lot of the personal anxiety problems described early on in the video, despite being quite a bit younger, so it was kinda comforting to know that even people I look up to and think are really cool can have the same struggles I do! I wish you the best handling all that, mental health can be a real pain in the ass. As for the rest of the video, personally speaking, I'd LOVE to see BradyJames become a real channel, all the videos of the two of you on this channel and Garanikor is some of my favorite stuff to watch on this whole damn website, and if the extra boost in revenue will help you out, I'f gladly be there to support it! The lack of any mention of an April Fools video was surprising to me after last year. If that means the tradition is over, I'll be a bit sad to see it go, but I at least hope that gives you more time to focus on yourself and other videos. REALLY looking forward to this next years' worth of videos, and PLEASE give your cats little kissies on the forehead for me, thank you!

I love your game reviews, NitroRad. Your reviews are so authentic and real and you're not trying to do them for a quick buck (unless some game reviewers do this days). You take time with your game reviews, and while your videos are long, they are done to not just break down the game-separately- but to also point out the good, the bad, and more bad aspects of games--whether it would be third party platform games, indie games, retro games, modern games or VR games. Glad to see ya back to your roots and reviewing classic games. That's why I support you by becoming a member on your channel. PS: Maybe in the future you can review popular PS2 game trilogies like Jak & Daxter, Sly Cooper, Final Fantasy, and even do popular/Action/Adventure shooting games like Call of Duty, Red Redemption, Uncharted, and Tomb Raider.

I've seen a lot of KZbinrs get anxiety and depression, especially after making KZbin their full time job. The things they almost always list as helping is to find a good work/life balance (making sure to take breaks), and to see a therapist. Unfortunately, they usually start doing those things after their channel has fallen into disarray. Good luck man. Oh, and the BradyJames channel sounds like it'd be fun. I completely relate to your troubles with anxiety. I'm 21 and i've been having the same thing, i've never felt anything like that so i don't think i have the tools to deal with it. It's very cool to know that someone as cool as you also feels that way, makes me feel like i'm not a madman (which is how i've been feeling these past few months). I think it would be worth it to try a format in which you show many games, that way you can leave the big videos to topics that are really worth it while also promoting all those great indie creators. I'm still happy about you promoting that one argentinian game, as an argentinian it made me very proud and happy. I would totally be down for a second channel. A word of advice is that if you do decide to get medication for it, make sure you get one that works for you. I've been on medication and for me the wrong medication can basically cut off my emotions and creative drive, making it particularly hard to either get some work done or properly socialize with people. If you feel the medication you get is affecting you negatively make sure to let your doctor know so that you can get a better one. I hope things get better on that front for you. This is what makes you special, you’re transparent/honest, informative about what you’re doing/have done/planned, and personal. Keep it up and take care of yourself. I started therapy this year and it’s been life changing. We go to the gym to better ourselves physically and school for mental, why is emotional (or mental in different way) taboo? (Also this rant i 🆔’d hard to 14:11 )

I wholly endorse you trying out new kinds of content :) Sorry to hear that you've been struggling with anxiety. It does suck pretty hard. Best of luck with everything this year!

Honestly I'm glad that you're going back to your roots of reviewing old and obscure games! It allows them to get a ton of attention and for the older obscure ones it allows those games to get remakes that help them succeed in better times for games. And doing a whole year of horror games might be great too(perhaps 2025?)

Nitro Rad as a name also has the added bonus of just happening to be a really nice way to get across the genuine positivity and fun of this channel's coverage, on top of everything else. Even when the video is all about something dark or tragic, there's always a sense of fun underlying the content, an idea that at the end of the day a lot of it is really just about enjoying games and highlighting what's great about them. It's less "immaturity" and more of a sense of childlike wonder that used to be everywhere in games, but now seems to be fairly rare... And that's what this channel is about, isn't it? The kinds of games being covered, the approach to covering them - a rare bit of wonder and enthusiasm in an industry that's only grown more cynical over time. Just keep on being rad. And I hope you can get whatever help you need for the anxiety issues.

I try to watch all your videos as soon as they come out man. Really respect your input (emotionally and opinionated) about all the games you play. -Definitely try to talk to someone for mental health issues if you can. It’s expensive as hell but there are always cheaper avenues you just have to search. - Glasses in videos here-on-out would be really cool. It would bring a new found appreciation for all of us that have been here since you started making videos like 10 years ago and hey; we all are all getting older with you man lol. No need to hide the glasses. -The name Nitro Rad is iconic to me, it’s the OG name. I would be sad if you changed it but it wouldn’t stop me from watching. Stay rad sir.

Bradyjames is a wonderful idea! I dont have acess to the podcast but I watch every Garanikor and other extra channel stuff on loop, cant get enough of you and your friends sense of humor and seeing like a "Nitrocast" with your whole gang of sorts would be awesome!

I think the 2nd channel idea sounds neat! And as someone who sometimes has a hard time sitting down to just watch letsplays, I personally still think the dynamic you described sounds like something I could listen to in the background while drawing, even if I’m not watching the actual gameplay.

I think the jampack idea is a great idea, so long as it doesn't become your bread and butter. I like you specifically because of how in-depth you are with every game you review, I don't think there's many other youtubers out there that try to go in-depth on the themes a game tries to explore. But I also acknowledge that you are a pretty big platform, sometimes being a huge reason why an indie game gets a bunch of sales. So yeah, go for it! Just, make it more sporadic if you can.

Been watching your channel for years. Oddly I’m not really into platforming, but classic survival horror is my jam. Your Halloween specials are definitely what helped me find this channel, and I look forward to them every year. So the idea of a year of horror games makes my heart very very happy. I hope you’re able to do that one day. In terms of the anxiety, I can certainly relate. I had daily panic attacks for years, and still struggle with anxiety today. I’m also a nurse. I totally understand being nervous about the idea of medications. I highly recommend finding a psychologist (doesn’t prescribe meds) or psychiatrist (can prescribe meds) to talk to. You can let them know you’re nervous about medication and would like to start with alternate therapies first, like talking and coming up with coping mechanisms. It can be extremely helpful. Also, stress and anxiety can certainly worsen GERD symptoms! So easing your anxiety may also help with your reflux. I had terrible GERD for a while. When I took a step back, I realized it was an incredibly high stress time in my life, and definitely improved when I eased some of that stress. Thank you for being such a fabulous content creator. Keep taking care of yourself and doing things that make you happy.

It's exciting to hear what ideas and plans you have in store since your content is always something to look forward to. Even though you did mention about going through anxiety, and other struggles like socializing, it's motivating to see you still pursuing and being honest with overall has occurred since it shows you can push through such struggles and still continue making entertaining reviews and podcasts.

Good on you for being true to yourself in your reviews! Your review of Signalis got me interested enough to give the survival horror genre my first try and I'm loving it so far! Please have faith and confidence in yourself that you're reaching plenty of people through your content. Your unique perspective and charisma is unmistakable, and I can certainly say has been a great listen since I found your channel in early 2019. Looking forward to your future vids!

So glad to see you're still moving forwards positively and taking care of yourself and your family. I adore seeing all your purrecious cats! They are all unique and amazing! (My void baby Truffles also doesn't understand treats and loves to lick tape like Hornet, though she looks like Pickles.) Honestly, if you felt up to it, it'd be awesome to get a quick kitty video sometimes in between your main works! And lastly, i love the Twitter pic with you and Pickles. He looks like he's never had a single thought in his whole life xD 💕💕💕

Your mental health experience is so relatable. I dont even have a big presence and I also type out responses and delete them with the same worries. I have always been an experimental drug guy but even I would not recommend anxiety/depression meds unless it's absolutely necessary. These medications usually have very long term effects and pretty much all of them have some severe side effects like diminished sexual function, brain zaps and weight gain. The much scarier thing is if you don't like it and stop taking the meds, People often get more severe mood issues and a higher self harm risk. Still these medications can be a literal life saver for some so just make sure you weigh your options seriously. Luckily mine is manageable. I exercise regularly and try to wait for the bad feelings to pass through and remember feeling awesome always comes back eventually. No self harm or anything so no emotion altering meds for me. Sorry for the long ramble I just hope this might help even a little bit! From one Maratimer to another: You are not alone and you are very likable. Keep up the good work!

I would love a second channel of just you and Brady hanging out! That'd be such a fun, low effort thing to throw in every once in a while :D!! Also, I hope you take good care of urself dude!!!! Honestly, I'm really excited for some the games you have planned. I'm really hoping you talk about Graffiti Kingdom, favorite game as a kid. Like I know it's probably been requested to death but I do wanna see your thoughts about it. Also, Mental Health is important. You'll struggle with it but at the same time, it's worth it when you're able to overcome it.

I think that a video that jam packs a bunch of indie games to check out would be cool, and it's a good way to show people something new. But I also think that one of my favourite parts of your channel is that the reviews are all so in depth. Maybe you could make more in depth videos on some of the games that stick out. Either way, I'm here for it.

Totally feel you on the mental health front. Was at my lowest point over the last few years, and spent far too long putting off seeking any professional help til I reached what I'd consider the moment before the point of no return. You gotta see somebody, it can be life-changing, whether it's CBT or medication. Sometimes you can't recognise how bad things have gotten, and you don't realise certain symptoms are the result of something else. I didn't realise how physical a mental issue could be until I started taking antidepressants and beta-blockers, both of which have changed my life. The irony is sometimes you start antidepressants and you get depressed at how happy you feel after so long, how you could have felt like this so much earlier. Your symptoms (GERD, fatigue and social anxiety) are so similar to mine. Also your aversion to medication is me to a tee too. I don't normally comment on videos, but it was almost eerie how much I felt every word you said on this section. Taking a leap and leaving a comment here to reach out and offer my experience. I've felt more creative, more confident and more fulfilled as a person since I started my medication. I hope you can find support and keep up the good work. Love the stuff you're doing, and know I'll love what you've got in-store for 2023, keep up the good work brother and know that the fact you're supporting your friends and trying to branch out is the sign of a truly good soul in the arts. Whether you're aiming for sincerity or irony, know the most important part of what you're making is that you stay true to yourself, and that you get to a point where you don't focus on value judgements and stay the course on personal development. Every step you take leads to the next, no matter how hard you stumble.

I firmly believe your presentation is EXTREMELY engaging because you give it that extra detail. I see it as less of a review and more of a docuseries on these retro games and I am always incredibly excited to make some food, grab a drink, and wind down to one of your awesome vids.

On your sponsor problem , its always nice to look at contract to see how long the sponsor has to stay on , or you can try to negotiate for it to be 1/2 year . Just make the segment very standalone and with the youtube editor you can edit them out pretty easily and future proof you videos this way , I know some people who do that and it works pretty well .

go for walks, get that sunlight, remove seed oils from your diet, that will give you a big boost in your mood, and try to go to bad at 2 and get up around 9 if you go to bed way late, that helped a lot!
