Houdini is only worth if you are making simulation type things but it is not the case always because we have to do complete project that need modelling and other 3D task in which Blender excels.
@blendereverything23 сағат бұрын

Regarding the price, it should be added that Blender's plug-ins are all bought out, with lifetime use and subsequent updates included in the purchase, while Houdini is an annual fee system, which requires payment every year.

Fanboys who have never installed Houdini and never wondered about it praise Blender. Blender cannot be Houdini's apprentice in any subject, including modeling. It is a completely professional, industrial 3D software. Those who only draw donuts in their lives and talk here should first do some research on why they continue to use Houdini after Blender came out. Don't tell them about their own special plugins etc. Houdini is a brain surgeon and Blender is a newly hired nurse.

I don't know too many people, or studios for that matter, who use houdini exclusively in their pipeline. Most people use it with either Maya or Blender or some other professional level application to accomplish specific tasks in a high level production. For almost everything else, their pipeline is driven by Maya, for example.

No company uses Blender as an industry standard. Instead, they utilize software like Maya, 3ds Max, Houdini, Katana, and others. Nowadays, almost all high-end films use Houdini for simulations. Blender still has many problems to solve. However, its being free and easy to use makes it attractive for hobby artists.
@clivies50085 күн бұрын
@@batucenk3997 Blender already has a significant share of new job postings. It's delusional to still talk about 'industry standard' nowadays. Only a few big studios are stuck restricting software packages for their workers. Most studios combine various packages to maximize profit while minimizing license costs

@batucenk39976 күн бұрын
Houdini's growth rate is much higher than you think. Studios that used Biofrost just over 10 years ago have now switched to Houdini. Blender will stay out of this race unless it offers a full-time support system and changes the render engine, which is bootnet.

To be fair, there are tons of Houdini Assets that can do many of these things. Also, if you build it once, you pretty much have an addon to generate many different variations. I also not sure the learning curve on Houdini is crazy high, it's just different and if you never learned any 3d package, not sure you would think Houdini is hard to learn. It only hard if your mental model is attached to a different way of doing something. I also think the quality you get from all the tools in Houdini are really strong, not sure any blender add-on is going to be much better.
@blendereverything8 күн бұрын

Perfectly explained, people make the mistake to marry their tools, instead on focusing on their skills, people always get surprised with the first question I ask them when they apply for a job in my small studio: Do you know how to use Blender?, many answer "I use Maya" and make me repeat the question and they get confused, and the reason why ask them that particular question is because my pipeline is base around HOUDINI, from my own experience I noticed that people that use Blender learn and catch up faster when I introduce them to Houdini than people that comes from Maya Max or C4D, and is unquestionable that Houdini produce ALWAYS the best result, yes, you can animate with Maya and yes you can add VFX with Maya, but Maya and C4D are far behind Houdini, and in such case you can do it with Blender as well, then is no point to use Maya because if I use Maya I need to add ZBrush while is cheaper and a best option to use the Blender+3dCoat combo, with Maya I will need a good amount of plugins and addons as well, plus ZBrush, plus Substance Painter etc, while Blender simplifies and provide a solution for the simple tasks, anyways the magic will happen in Houdini, in the other hand now we have IClone+CharacterCreator and Cascadeur with precise retargeting tools like accurig and accuface, then motion capture and AI asisted animation we save a huge amount of time, facial expressions and lipsinc are fast easy and accurate with Iclone, CC4 also solves the problem of retopology, because the base meshes of CC4 works like a glove you put into your mesh and the process looks hard at the beginning but as soon as you get the grip on it you start working faster with this method, then with the tools I mentioned you really don't need Maya ZBrush or C4D, you can have them if you want, but you don't need them, and Blender just fill the blank perfectly, synergies well with Iclone, CC4, Cascadeur, UE5, Pencil+,3dCoat, Marvelous Designer, SubstancePainter, you name it, Blender just synergies with anything you through at it, with the flexibility that because is an open source software with just a few bucks you can hire a python coder and create your own dedicated version of Blender that fit your specific needs. To speed up things I am always seeking for people that can work in Houdini and every single Blender artist become a potential Houdini artist in my eyes, the way you animate in Maya is too different on how Houdini works that knowledge will just get in the way when you jump into Houdini, you need a different mindset, a mindset that align more with people that work in Blender and are sue to shading nodes, geometry nodes, compositing nodes etc

Yes, I work in the industry and day after day I can see more Houdini artists using Blender in the workflow for modeling and Houdini for procedural, because Houdini support huge scenes, but for modeling is not the best tool for that. All are features to improve the workflow, just features.

@@blendereverything my dude, Houdini indie license is almost 270$ a year. all addons in blender only offer the same functions in blender with less clicks. if you're experienced in blender, you can live without them. also the only advantage Houdini have over blender is simulations and the most expensive simulations addon in blender market is almost 80$ one time pay and updates are free. also most of them are GPL. If only simulations you're after then go for it but, its hell of a waste of time that you could spend on creativity to go for Houdini for anything else. i talk out of experience. why complicate an already simplified process?
