The biggest limitation of blender is that it runs too slow when you start to do anything complex.

Even when the specs are there? Actually wondering because I heard that it is just slower when dealing with poly count. Is this a cpu and gpu issue or blenders sequencing and coding, etc.

@@NupeWoop general thing. (Particle) simulations are something definitely to avoid. Blender is NOT made for that.

It depends on how it's done. If the movie is live-action and the environments are all shot in real life, and then you add a few cheap 3D effects, that’s fine. But if it’s a fully 3D movie, then no. Cloth simulation is trash, hair particle simulation is also trash, destruction, smoke, and fire simulations are trash, water is trash, animation is trash, and large scenes cause lag. Just imagine creating an avalanche scene, and then the character emerges from the snow with snow falling between every fold of their clothes and fur, and trying to simulate that in Blender, haha. Unless you’re aiming for a movie that looks like animated films from the 2000s, then it’s fine.

Is there an alternative to using Maya? I want to create a 3D movie alone using a combination of Blender, Houdini, and Unreal Engine. Is there a better pipeline for solo, efficient production?

@@Minhun_ Sure, it's definitely possible. I mean, if you only use Blender, it will be quite limited, but if you combine it with other software, it works just fine. Because, in reality, making films requires the use of a lot of different software. The funny thing is, if there were a rule that only one software could be used to make a film, Blender might actually be the best at it, haha. Maya integrates with Unreal Engine better than Blender, but that's not a big deal. I think that workflow is perfectly fine for solo work

Because making movies requires many software programs, and to be among the standard tools, it has to excel in at least one area. For example, Maya, although not great at modeling, sculpting, or simulation, has a strong point in rigging and animation. Houdini is known for simulation, ZBrush for sculpting... Blender is good at everything, but not the best at anything.

For example, Maya might not be the best at modeling, simulating, or sculpting, but it’s number one for rigging and animation. Similarly, there’s Houdini for simulation or ZBrush. Blender has a bit of everything, but in reality, it doesn’t truly excel at anything.
