Great video! I am planning on using EZD3 with my Efnote 7 module. Could you tell me what your MacBook specs are? Trying to decide whether a model with 8GB RAM will be sufficient.
@Bearvswolf15 күн бұрын
I have an M1 macbook pro with 16GB Ram and i think its 10GB video card. For just the drums alone i dont see why you would have any issues w 8GB. For what its worth. I have used every major virtual drum library. EZ drummer was by far my least favorite sounds. Addictive drums is very natural. Steven Slate is very polished sounding with lots of options. GGD is also very “finished” sounding. I did not like EZ drums patches at all in comparison. Just one guys opinion…

I occasionally teach with one. I use a little 10 inch alto. Just because its light and i can set it up easily. I love yamaha PA speakers in general. But I also think a nice mixing set of speakers 5”, 7” maybe would sound nice in stereo. Some JBL or KRK or equivalent. Depends how loud you need it to go.

Hi, can you please explain steps of mapping efnote 5 inside ezd3, as efnote is not available by default. Thank you!
@Bearvswolf3 ай бұрын
I actually dont own EZD3. I had a demo that I used for the video. I think I just used the template for like a Roland V drums kit. TD12 or TD20 maps usually work just fine for the efnote kit.
@MidAgeDruma3 ай бұрын
@@Bearvswolf thank you very much, i will try :) so far there is not any content on efnote vs ezd specifically. At least now i know that it worked for you so i can make the purchase of ezd3. I have an extended efnote 5 kit, still discovering as it is new, but am not the fun of the kits inside, i liked the studio F and modified it a little bit by changing the bass drum and playing with the pad levels as ride was too loud especially. So, ezd3 will be a big development to have. Anyway, maybe i can shoot a video to map the ezd3 with efnote 5, with your suggested roland kits and maybe trying with atv drums as i saw some others suggested so. Thanks again!

Great video. I ended up getting the Efnote 7 in December. A few thoughts re this video. I agree with you. I don't ever notice machine gunning in a way that would throw me off while practicing. I can see how if folks are analyzing the audio on any given video, it would be more direct, and easy to hear imperfections. For me, I'm uninterested anyway in just using audio samples in a recording, but the access to frequent, really enjoyable quality practice time that the Efnotes allow me. I'm a songwriter who likes to play drums, but whose main instrument is guitar and bass. It is easy for me to write and record drum parts for a song, but since getting the Efnotes I've been able to practice so much more that my skill as an actual drummer, and not just someone composing parts on the drums, has increased substantially. I'm moving to a townhouse from a single family, though. And I noticed that you are using the Efnotes in an apartment. I was a bit worried that the tapping, really on the cymbals, and perhaps the bass drum, might be a problem in the townhouse. But given that it is an end unit, and only has one shared wall, and I have a contained room away from that shared wall, and the thing has a firewall, I think I'll be fine. But was wondering if you have any stuff to share about your experience playing these in an apartment setting? Have you had any neighbor issues, or do you have any tips for keeping tapping sounds from translating? I'm thinking of some fiberglass compressed boards and a few sound blankets that other drummers have recommended.
@Bearvswolf3 ай бұрын
Yea I think the machine gunning thing is overblown in general. I have played a very long time. And i would have never noticed had nobody mentioned it. I have never had any complaints. However, my place is on the ground floor. With one shared wall and one place above me. I also have a “musicians” schedule. So when I am usually playing and recording nobody is around during the day. I think the loudest part is the bass drum. Which you could always stuff with blankets or something. But yea I have never had issues.

Hi great video. I have a TD20 and want to record onto my pc (which of course has USB's, running windows 10 ) with the aux in on the module coming from MP3 player so I can play along with songs and record them. Would a simple audio mixer with 12 inputs work by connecting all 12 individual outputs from the TD20 into the mixer, then USB output from the mixer directly into the PC? In this way I could monitor each channel for volume and tone etc so they all match for recordings via the PC. As you know the TD 20 does not have USB output. Thankyou
@Bearvswolf3 ай бұрын
In theory that would work. You would have to find a mixer that could then break that usb into 12 individual tracks. That may be harder to find. If it were me. I would just use midi. Then you could connect to your computer via one cable. And use something like pro tools to accept midi. Use addictive drums (or similar). And then input whichever mp3 you wanted to play to.
@thedrummerboy12153 ай бұрын
Thankyou foryour reply. I was trying to get aound buying software. If the mixer has 12 channels and these are fed together through the mixer inputs, I would hope this mix would output through the USB in real time.I simply don't know if it's possible. I suspect the USB is for downloading files onto a memory stick afterwards. Yes, Midi is something I have never used so dont really understand what it's capable of.I really need to be able to tone control all the 12 channel outputs from the TD20 before anything is recorded not just the stereo mix. Someone mentioned a Tandberg interface which is 12 channel with a mix down via USB.@@Bearvswolf
@Bearvswolf3 ай бұрын
@@thedrummerboy1215 if you dont mind mixing on the mixer. Like controlling the levels and sounds of the drums on the mixer. And then mixing it down to USB and sending to computer that could work. The low cost mixers with USB are almost always only stereo out through usb. Thats the only thing you want to double check. Some do allow for mulritrack ouput but just make sure if thats what you need.

Is there a specific map preset you use for the ef note 5 on Addictive Drums?
@Bearvswolf3 ай бұрын
I was planning to do a video on that next . Because efnote is generally not included in these VSTs. But for Addictive I just choose the TD-12 map. I think the only thing that didn’t map was the splash. But its easy enough to change in settings. Esp if you use Logic you can see the incoming midi note on the top bar. Near the bars and beats section. Then just switch whichever cymbal you want to map to that incoming midi note to assign to the splash.

Ha! So yes. I do think it gets better via a Software VST. My guess is they can use larger amounts of samples since our computers have huge hard drives. So the pearl mimic can run those VSTs but thats why it’s the price of a MacBook pro and you get no drums….a terrible buy if you ask me. But yes i do think the VSTs have an edge. 🤘
@tadurall803 ай бұрын
Man I didn't realize it was that bad on these. Any other kits better?
@gabe_irl3 ай бұрын
@@tadurall80 based on my research you could go with a Roland kit for about a thousand or 2 more than the ef note 5 but you will still run into the machine gunning issue regardless at a certain threshold (mentioned in the video). I think the solution regardless of kit is to use samples on your computer (EZ Drummer or Superior Drummer or any others with good samples) to increase the dynamic range of the sounds.
