Last year they tried this crap with us, and brought in some dude who was "Special Forces". We were taken to a beach and made to run into the surf zone and out into the soft sand. We were then made to sit in a chain in the surf, for 4 hours. We were then taken back to work and got cleaned up, and then had a "debrief". It consisted of several of my workmates looking very numb, and a few even cried. I asked why we had just been punished. Was told that it was a military type team building exercise. I said no, it was a military type punishment, then asked our "Special Forces" instructor a few basic questions that anyone who had been in the Australian Army would know. He couldn't answer any of them. I told him that I was ex military, I know what military punishments look like, and that was what we just endured. He left shortly after. It was a complete scam.

I don't think it's bad for companies to promote their employees wellness / fitness but this is a horrible way to go about it. Nutrition solutions does this, however they compensate for you to be in those fitness classes after the workday is done, with the classes themselves also being free, while still being an optional thing to do. Team building at least in my observation seems to come from some group of employees that are dissatisfied with the culture of the group not doing enough to make the team feel more collective as a unit. I will never understand people that care about these kinds of things so much to the point that they treat their jobs as a part of their identity.

You should really do a video/deep dive into these businesses like the adult toys one where the entire premise is to sell something useless that companies can waste a bunch of money on. I've seen so many of them and there's so many different kinds whether it be courses, software, services, or something physical like apparel, games, and any other random product company's can just throw at their employee's.

You're not far from the mark. It's more devious than that. Call it hustle culture and corporate talk. It is so embedded in your culture that you don't notice it anymore. I noticed it while watching Love is Blind. The candidates were talking about their feelings in the most corporate and materialistic way possible.

When I was working at Nissan would you rather I have a team building session or build your car cuz I can't do both it's all about the priorities I find it interesting that office type jobs people find all kinds of things to do other than their job but when it comes to manual labor such as building a car they kind of want you to have more of a focus so your car doesn't fly in a million pieces when you're driving it down the road

I consider myself pretty lucky. I work for an international company with headquarters in Belgium. Their idea of teambuilding is flying everyone out twice a year (in the summer, for a "Family day" where you can take your spouse and children, and at the end of the year for a year end party with your spuse), all expenses paid, we have a nice dinner/picnic together with free food and attractions, it doesn't disrupt our work, and we also still get yearly bonuses and raises. edit: it's not mandatory, you can just not come if you have your own arrangements at that time, or just don't want to, but an opportunity for an all-expenses paid weekend in another country is pretty exciting, I feel.

Ya. I have been dealing with that in my office the last few years. We are on our 3rd CEO or President. Depends on what companies call their number 1 head exec. Here is the problem. The biggest issue in corporate is communication. People in corp make decisions that they are not qualified to make. All those people do is cause problems for those people that are the professionals at a certain job or subject. Meanwhile, it is hard to get raises because we spend a rediculous number on leadership and DEI. It doesn't work. And it doesn't work because it is not designed to work. It doesn't address issues. Not to mention 80% of leadership is trash. They couldn't lead with a blue print. DEI also doesn't address issues because it doesn't help hire the best of the best or at least qualified people from any group. Then there is the problem with CEO's failing up. A lot of CEOs are failures and can't lead or manage a company. Yet they will still get huge pay outs to leave, then go to another company as a CEO and fail that company too.

I couldn't agree more with everything you said in this video. It's absolutely mind-boggling how some companies are willing to shell out big bucks for what essentially amounts to glorified daycare games disguised as "team building activities." Metalog Tools? More like Metalog Fools, am I right? It's like they took basic childhood toys, slapped a corporate label on them, and suddenly it's a "Tower of Power" for the low price of a small fortune. And don't even get me started on those exorbitant prices for what essentially boils down to bags of hoses and colored strings. It's truly baffling how these companies stay in business. And don't even get me started on those cringy corporate trends like the anti-gravity yoga sessions. Hanging upside down in hammocks isn't team building, it's just an elaborate way to avoid doing actual work. And don't even get me started on those TikTok dances passed off as team bonding exercises. It's like they think throwing toothpicks and marshmallows together will magically turn coworkers into best friends. But hey, at least there's Co-Pilot and Coach Josh to save the day. Realistic, down-to-earth fitness coaching without all the gimmicks and fads. It's refreshing to see a company actually focused on real results and accountability. So yeah, if you're tired of corporate nonsense and want to actually make progress, Co-Pilot sounds like the way to go. Thanks for shedding light on this absurdity, Josh. Keep calling out the nonsense, and count me in for the next laugh.

Actually, my company does a team building weekend in the Summer. I was somewhat apprehensive of it, but decided to go since it was my first year They took us to a very cool and chill place in the mountains and did some activities, like buggy kart cross through the woods, "water walk" which boiled down to descending a river by foot, and some other walks to some cool springs. It was super chill. There were like 2 activities per day, rest of the time we just hang around doing fuck all. Saturday night I went and took the yoga instructor of the place to the lake and by the time we came back most of the company folk were drunk and grilling marshmallows in the fire. Including board members Yes, it's a small company. But it was pretty cool. Really shifted my perspective on these types of activities. All in all, they can be actually fun, provided the company organizes it for the employees, not for themselves
@Titere058 ай бұрын
That's because it was an event organized with the only objective of having human beings relate and chill. You know, basically treating everyone like a person, instead of following a little guide to the letter or applying some theory

Recalling many team builders for my factory job. Going to six flags, to be surrounded by teenage girls. Going to Dave and Busters to be surrounded by kids. Pinstack, might as well be a Dave and Busters with bowling. Main event, basically Dave and Busters, but with go carts too. Punchbowl Social, kind of a micro Dave and Busters with more of a Bar theme, no video games, but bowling, darts, pool, karaoke. Although last time we went, we only ate the bar/catering food and didn't get access to the games side. Park and Pizza, now Revl, go carts and put put golf. About the only time we don't do kid friendly options, is when we just go out to eat at a nice restaurant. And we've only done that because our budget per person dropped from $75 each to $55 each. Plus there's fewer of us now that 70% of the factory side of things is done in Mexico, we used to be pure made in USA. I think the only reason I have a job is shipping costs via next day air and to canada justifies my pay grade. Which still isn't enough to rent in the city where I work. I guess I'll watch the video now...

They think people are stupid. Real team building comes by helping people. I remember years back one unknown guy from another unit got transferred to our unit. I accidentally overheard some seniors talking about getting instructions from the top to kick him out in 15 days. I did not know that guy but I decided I won't let this happen. So I gave full cooperation & work training to him and in less than a week he began to give output much above average. Those dirty seniors had to cancel his kickout but did not understand how it happened. After that we both were well known upto to president level for extraordinary team work and we won a reputation of 1 + 1 = 11 in implementation.
