Do you use a vacuum when sanding?
@thetubguy2293Ай бұрын
I use to hook up a vacuum to the sander but it made it extremely uncomfortable so now I just run my exhaust fan continuously. I do pause a lot on big jobs to sweep the tub so I'm not blowing dust everywhere. When I'm don sanding, I'll do a final sweep the blow everything down while wiping it at the same time and still running the exhaust fan.

How can i learn this
@thetubguy22933 ай бұрын
There are Many places who offer training. The only problem I have against these training facilities is the cost. I've seen some posted as a 10 day for $7k. To me that's just too much money. In fact I started my whole business with about $5k, maybe less. I suggest watching more videos, not just mine, on this topic. I'm gonna make a quick video on how I actually got started and what I started with. Keep a lookout.

@@jamesrhodes9126 I would say if you can afford it and it's a fair price then yes. I Don't know what they're charging for these 3/5 day courses nowadays and what you get. But in reality, you can learn everything online on youtube. I'm hoping to do a training video to post on this channel but I'm way too busy right now. If you watch anyone's video you can clearly find the most common denominator and realize what all you need to do to become a pro at this. there's a reason, besides being busy, that I don't post too many videos and that's because there kinda boring. can you please tell me on your 2 guns what size needles are you using for tubs, counter tops, etc. which size is for the paint and which is for top coat and what size for flaking on sinks and counter tops. also, is it ok to use the top feeder guns instead of bottom feed. im starting a new business. Thanks
@thetubguy22934 ай бұрын
I only use 2 different tip sizes: 2.8 for the fleck and 1.4 or1.3 for everything else depending on the model gun and what size they offer. None of the gun manufacturers offer both 1.4 & 1.3. But most importantly, I Have a total of five guns and 2 setups in my work truck: 1. Consists of 2 guns primer gun and a top coat for tubs. 2. Consists of 3 guns: Base coat gun, fleck gun & clear coat gun for kitchen counters and vanities. I do this so there's NEVER cross contamination while working and any confusion or distraction while moving from one job to the other. I've never used a top feed gun and never heard of anyone using one for refinishing. I guess none of us have and none of us are willing to spend the money on an experiment, but I'm sure there's a better reason. Hope this answers your question. Good luck on your new business.

I run a company van and the back bumper along with side running boards are absolutely covered and I hate the way it looks so I'm going to get black spray paint and shoot it. I have a great set of knee pads but I've been using the black foam padding that is used to transport the jugs of material and we go thorough a lot of it so there's plenty of them laying around. I hate all knee pads, none of them are ever comfortable!

The tub guy. How fast did you find work when you started on your own?
@thetubguy22937 ай бұрын
So I'm a special case because I was working for someone that kept sticking me in the 'hood'. Then they ended up closing which voided my no compete clause that I signed when I first started. So I had a little money saved and I called those offices like on a Wednesday told them I started my own and asked if they needed the service. They all said yes. Then I ordered all my equipment and paid extra for overnight, got insured and on Monday I was working. By Friday I had made my money back from all my purchases.

Just my 2 cents from being in the biz 20 plus years. Great video by the way love seeing more reglazing folks out here

You know, I've tried both of what you've suggested and to be honest with you the fresh air system was kinda hard/annoying to use. I guess I should of practiced more with it. But after dealing with 2 hoses at the same time in a tight bathroom and bumping the wall which resulted in having to come back to touch up, I was done with it. I now use an air scrubber. Works amazing!

Do you give a warranty on the countertops seeing as though people are going to be cutting into them etc. ?

Tubs and countertops both get a 1 yr warranty. Basically the life of simple lease. But I do not warranty cuts made to the tops or damage due to drippy faucet in tubs. Any customer who feels you should honor the warranty due to those 2 instances, is not a customer you want.

Is the top coat 2 parts? Like a tan base then you have to spray the fleck on that? Or does the fleck also have the tan base in it
@taylorkennison650 Жыл бұрын
Or do you tint the primer to underneath color?
@thetubguy2293 Жыл бұрын
Ok. so here's the full explanation: First I spray on the primer, which is white for this color fleck. But there are many fleck colors with their own already tinted primers. Then I spray on the fleck. In this case the fleck is called Cliffstone and it's a pretty popular color because it is basically a "tan". It has many different shades of brown with a tiny bit of black and white for contrast. After it dries (20 Minutes) I spray on the clearcoat. Semigloss never gloss. Never!
