Bro... Just use the bus. Why do people in America use only cars? But come on, buses and any other public transport will definitely solve this issue... But Americans will do this?

I think congestion fees suck It will hurt businesses in ways you haven’t even tried to consider. It creates unique additional cost to visitors to the city, shoppers, infrequent commuters, I avoid NYC subways for many reasons including crime, filth, homeless, urine and garbage smell, You want more people on that or else you pay extra for the privilege of being safe. And the money will be pissed away on an inefficient, politically controlled machine that wastes taxpayer money

2% of people, eh? Vs the 70% that take the train. Can’t really expect the train to get better if it’s not being funded. It’s proven that it’s slightly safer on the subway than on the street, and even more safe than in a car, believe it or not. In New York, there have been approximately 193 deaths and over 2.5 thousand injuries caused by cars just this year. As for the subway, whilst I couldn’t find any specific examples, most of my sources dictate ~5 murders on the subway this year. Even if that number was tenfold, it would still be only a quarter of the amount of people who got killed while driving. In my opinion, I think that any money the MTA can get, it needs. Clearly, their spending isn’t going to get better. On your business point, she said she might tax city businesses instead of doing congestion pricing. To me, that sounds a hell of a lot worse than taxing cars. Well, anyway, it’s a moot point now, because she’s reinstating it, albeit at $9.

@@LIRRFAN426 your estimate that only 2% of people entering NYC daily enter on mass transit is completely wrong. It’s clear you are solely concerned about your interests as an LIRR rider and have no concern of anyone else. 700,000 cars enter lower Manhattan DAILY. Not 2% of all people You Also made no comment on the impact on businesses

The big problem with rail in the usa is that it is seen as a seperate form of transportation and because of it development is done backwards. Rail is an extention of local public transportation, and high speed rail is an extention of regular rail. Rail needs to connect local transit networks that in turn connect destinations easilly and efficiently. Without propper public transportation to connect the station to peoples actual destinations cheaply and easilly it becomes just a piece of rail to nowhere.

It never got a lot of publicity but a bike rider killed a pedestrian at the intersection of 16th and Locust about 10 years agom Bike riders really don't care about older adult pedestrians. Too many won't stay off of sidewalks for instance.

As long as Americans are free to own cars, they will never ever pay a fee simply just to drive them around in a city. It's basically the same as paying for the air that you breathe. Americans will never let New York become like London.

The issue would be implementing all that trolleybus overhead wiring & cabling through Centre City. Most European cities avoid even tram overhead wiring in their city centres because it destroys the view and appears cumbersome. NOT something you wanna do in Philly's beautiful Old City with its 18th century colonial charm

The station under Adams Ave. was built so a parking garage for Sears could be built above it. If they hadn't, then the garage would have had to be demolished later when the subway was built.

I know I'm 4 years late lol but I go to school in Glassboro, the town south of Pitman, and I regularly spend my weekends in Pitman! It's an amazing town and is one of the reasons why I'm looking to become an urban planner/transit designer! I knew the town had rail service but had no idea their rail service was actually electrified! Thank you for making another amazing video!

Hear me out: Just build buildings over the highway next to the train station. Force the highway to be the forgotten citizen around these stations and make the pavement real bumpy so people stop wanting to drive under it. Eventually you convince them the road isn't helping and then build new basements into the buildings. (I know this is a stupid idea. But gosh, it's STILL somehow better than what's actually been done.)

We didn’t build them. They all were found and the history of the construction is fantasy. Eyrie canal built in 7 years and 2 Months ? In early 1800’s. A mile a week . Yeah right. ( ny winters and mountains ) tartaria

Alco: Smokey, sloppy, rough, clattery machines that sound like a bag of rocks falling down stairs, but they pull well and are sometimes even somewhat reliable. Just don't expect refinement of any kind. Basically an Army Jeep on rails. F-M: Different from the industry standard, arguably better in some ways, but also sometimes just weird. Either misguided goofballs or misunderstood geniuses depending on who you ask. EMD: Smooth running, rock solid reliable, everything you could possibly want in a diesel locomotive. The workhorses that keep America's railroads alive. Some of them are a bit boring, but only because they're so utilitarian and dependable. Baldwin: Throwing every possible idea at the wall to see what sticks.

One of the arguments for diesel locomotives is their tractive effort. I looked it up, and I found that the most powerful electric locomotives still have greater tractive effort than the most powerful diesel locomotives and any other diesel locomotives ever. None of the top 5 most powerful locomotives in both horsepower and tractive effort are diesels.
