Yes! 50 miler 😅 that's amazing. I'm still looking at 50k races, with hopes of trying the 75km peak ultra something from Bakewell in a year or so 😁 Fully expecting, and looking forward to, a chaotic race video. Hi Jess It was good to meet you in langstrath valley near black moss pot. We stayed up on Sargeants crag that night, and it turned out to be another very windy and wet one which made coming down from eagles crag the following day very interesting (as you said it would be).
@AMostlyFunctionalJess27 күн бұрын
I did worry about you a bit that morning! Did you manage to descend before the rain got really bad?
@davidphillips563824 күн бұрын
We descended in the heavy rain which was interesting….., but more challenging was changing into dry clothes in a phone box next to where we were parked.

Wow you had lots of days in the beautiful Lake District. Love that area, shame it is so far away for me to get to. Stunning views, even in the rain. Thank you for sharing. Cheers :)
@AMostlyFunctionalJessАй бұрын
Four full days! Not as long as I would perhaps have liked but that was what was easiest to fit in around work. It's about three hours drive for me, depending on which bit of the lakes I'm going to so it's not too bad, but just far enough away that I feel like I have to go up for at least two or three days to make it worth it.
@markg99Ай бұрын
Round Rotherham 50 miler sounds like a good one for the bucket list. Good luck with your sub 13 goal. I usually have so many video ideas that I just know I'll never get around to making half of them 😅 Looking forward to seeing what you've got planned 👍
@AMostlyFunctionalJessАй бұрын
It'll be good fun! I typically run into issues with the filming process for certain video ideas. Sometimes the faff of setting up shots for how I want the video to look ends up putting me off even starting it 😂 so keeping the upload schedule loose will hopefully means those higher effort videos will be more likely to happen because they'll happen naturally
@racheld1844Ай бұрын
Mark and Jess…. In the same boat here 😂 I have loads of good ideas and then knock them on the head when I realise the actual film time and organisation is more hassle than it’s worth. Jess, really good to hear the summer’s been positive on the running front. You’ve had a great season. Hope you’ve found a way to keep that enjoyment going 😊
@AMostlyFunctionalJessАй бұрын
It is a faff isn't it? This whole 'being creative' business 😂 I have definitely learned how to find enjoyment in the process. Previously I was just impatient with myself all the time and upset about not being able to perform 'well', but the consistency is beginning to pay off so I just need to keep at it and keep enjoying myself!

have you tried the freet calver for fells?

@AMostlyFunctionalJessАй бұрын
I definitely thought about it, didn't really have the budget to justify getting a pair yet unfortunately and the summer racing season is coming to a close. Will look at getting a pair over the winter I think.
@jurkjaredgamez8392Ай бұрын
@AMostlyFunctionalJess Great idea, the 6mm lugs and a stitched sole looks like it would hold up well to the beatings you out the shoes through.

Weldone Jess for doing nearly the whole race. I am like you. Terrible in the heat, even worse than you, I intentionally wouldn't do a long race in the heat specially if there's not much shade on the route. Your decision not to carry on was right. By the way, cool music. What was it?
@AMostlyFunctionalJess2 ай бұрын
I'm trying to train myself to handle the heat better and it does seem to be working, just not enough for Sunday! I always put the music I use in the video descriptions. This track is Silent Shout by The Knife.

The trend is definitely upwards. Learning from experiences like this is all going to be a big help, I'm sure. As you asked about races I've gone for a string of road races for the rest of this year. Sacrilege!?😅 5k in Chesterfield on Saturday, then a10k ,HM, and my first ever road marathon later in the year. Gulp!
@AMostlyFunctionalJess2 ай бұрын
Indeed, it's all experience in the bank! Road races are really useful training tools! Really good for working on a bit of speed and getting a different training stimulus. Never done a road marathon myself, it's a beast of a challenge to take on. What month is the marathon?
@markg992 ай бұрын
@@AMostlyFunctionalJess right, yes, it should be useful to get some road running in for a while. I've had enough nettles for one summer 😆 I've got my eye on a November marathon, so I've time to train and do the shorter races in the meantime. It's at a race track, I think called Oulton Park 🏎

@AMostlyFunctionalJess2 ай бұрын
Yes we've had a few local fell races with lower turnouts than normal. I think people are just being more selective about the races they're entering and travelling to what with cost of living increasing. Summer is also just really busy for races so it can also be that some years more people happen to decide to do one race over another.

By the way, you looked good and strong even when you were saying that you were dragging yourself at the end. Weldone!

Nice to hear an update Jess. Your road running has definitely been successful this year! Good luck with your league races, I’m sure you can top the charts 😁 I’ve just started to add some extra weights to my training (after years of keeping the weight low and reps high). I got some 2nd hand weights and a weights bench, cleared the garage out and have a mini set up ready to go. I might have a few achy muscles for a while Thanks for your comment on my last video. I didn’t really reply individually as I know I probably would have spilled too many beans. It really is difficult to know what to put out there. Sorry to hear of your experiences. The whole concept of being a ‘public’ person is always going to open a few can of worms and put us in potentially difficult or dangerous positions. Not fair or right but I guess it’s out there and we aren’t any less susceptible to being on the receiving end of that negativity.
@AMostlyFunctionalJess3 ай бұрын
Yes there will definitely be some extra DOMs for a little while switching to higher weight and lower reps, but you've got strong legs, I suspect you'll adjust quickly! Having a home set up is great. Yes it's always a difficult one having some aspect of yourself 'public'. I've learned to navigate it through sheer volume of experience.

If you let a cobbler get their hands on those Feldoms they can easily stitch the sole to the upper, they'll be a bit more rugged after this. What do you think about the Freet Calver, maybe that's something for your races?
@AMostlyFunctionalJess6 ай бұрын
I'll have a look into the cobbler option. I do have a pair of Freet Calver, they seem fine for training runs but I do routinely run into this issue where if I'm moving faster over any slightly harder terrain (hard packed trail, flagstones etc) in low-no cushioning shoes, my legs seem to feel like they're detaching from my body and I begin to feel nauseous. Absolutely no idea what that's about but it doesn't happen if I wear shoes with a bit more cushioning in them. That's a me problem though and not a problem with the shoe since it happens universally with any low cushioning shoe!
