Actually Christmas is just 2 days = Christmas Eve + Christmas Day ..the third day is dedicated to St. Stephan the very first matyr of christianity who has nothing to do with Christmas/The birth of Jesus, obviously BUT it is very extremely convenient that his dedicated holiday is by chance on Dec 26th, the day after the winter soltice since the year 411 ..no complains about that, obviously.

@michaelgrabner897713 күн бұрын
Funfact: Christkindl is a pure catholic tradition the Weihnachtsmann is not, but heavily influenced by Germanic Mythology + mashed up with the St. Nicolaus. So the more north in Germany where are less Catholics than Protestants the more likey Weihnachtsmann instead of Christkindl.
@agdwchannel13 күн бұрын
Makes sense!
@arnodobler109613 күн бұрын
Then there shouldn't be a Santa Claus among Protestants either, since they don't have any saints, so no St. Nicholas either.
@michaelgrabner897713 күн бұрын
@@arnodobler1096 That´s not entirely true Protestant or better said Martin Luther just defined "Saints" differently. Quote "Der Heilige im Sinn der Reformation ist in erster Linie Zeuge für Gottes gnädige, freimachende Gegenwart." which opened to become holy for everybody. And the concept of St Nicolaus and for which he in particular stands for = "endow the poor" and that always was and still is also highly appreciated in the Protestant confession. So he might not be "a Saint" as like as he is for Catholics in their confessional mindset but he is definitively "ein Zeuge für Gottes gnädige, freimachende Gegenwart" due to his legacy, which if you don´t know was that he gave his entire wealth, and he was very wealthy, to the poor.= "mehr freimachen vom Weltlichen um sich ganz Gott zu widmen geht wohl kaum noch". So what are you actually talking about?
@e.45813 күн бұрын
The reason for the Weihnachtsmann/Christkindl tradition (and therefore later Santa Clause who was introduced to the USA by Dutch immigrants) is the Reformation lead by Martin Luther. The Reformers disapproved of the worship of saints (they saw it as idolatry) and therefore were critical of the Saint Nicholas Day tradition on the 6th of December (that still exists in Germany). But they didn't want to take away the tradition of giving kids treats and little presents, so they moved it to the 24th of December. From the, different ideas of who brings the presents emerged. In the more Protestant northern regions, Saint Nicholas Day wasn't celebrated more and his persona was merged into the Weihnachtsmann. In the more Catholic southern regions, where Saint Nicholas Day was still celebrated, two similar figures bringing presents within less than 3 weeks was weird, so the Christkindl emerged. The moral of the story is: no matter where you live or what your religion is, if you get presents at Christmas you can thank Martin Luther for it! 😁
@michaelgrabner897713 күн бұрын
@@e.458 The Christkind was as "gift bringer" already in place way before the Reformation but it wasn´t directly related to Christmas because it was not "Baby Jesus" but a sort of "Baby Angel" known as "Putte" which is the term for all sorts a "Child-Angels" and the Christkind was "the prominent one" so to speak . That changed after the Reformation where the Christkind got related specifically for Christmas..
