When the boat is out of the water over winter can I back off the compression to take pressure off the bellows
@PYIinc
@PYIinc 27 күн бұрын
When the boat is out of the water for winter storage, it is indeed possible to back off the compression to relieve pressure on the bellows. Before launching the boat again in the spring, be sure to use new set screws when securing the stainless steel rotor.

do I need to do anything for propeller corrosion now that i disconnected its bonding to the boat?
@PYIinc
@PYIinc 2 ай бұрын
The Max-Prop is just a piece of metal under the water. You need to protect it with an anode just like you would any propeller. The Max-Prop has a zinc at the aft end to assist in protecting the propeller from corrosion. If you disconnected the shaft from the bonding system, you still may have stray current from the water around the boat; this may be more or less than before. You will need to check the consumption of anodes often to get a feeling for how they are consumed.

I need to change prop blade angle to 13 degree can I do that?
@PYIinc
@PYIinc 4 ай бұрын
Yes, this is not a problem with the Max-Prop Easy. If you have a 16-degree bolt and rotate it out 1 1/2 turns, you will have a 13-degree blade angle setting. Each full rotation outward of a forward pitch bolt is a 2-degree change. So 1 1/2 is a 3-degree change. If you need more assistance, please contact us at 425-355-3669 or [email protected]

When you feel the setscrews push up against the shaft , how much tighter after that should you make them? What would happen if they are too loose or two tight?
@PYIinc
@PYIinc 6 ай бұрын
You will want to torque the set screws to approximately 6-foot pounds of torque for shafts 3/4" to 1-3/8" and 8-foot pounds of torque for shafts 1-1/2" to 3-3/4". Not tightening the set screws enough could cause the stainless steel rotor to slide forward.

I have seen these at the boat shows but can't get a good answer on the fender material's likelihood to scratch my gelcoat. Any thoughts? Thank you.
@PYIinc
@PYIinc 9 ай бұрын
The fenders are made from a polyester textile that is very soft on the hull of the boat. They were designed for the mega yacht market in the EU with that in mind to preserve the gel coat, fiberglass finish, paint, or wraps on their boats. The polyester textile does not retain salts or debris like a standard cloth cover, which will scratch the hull.

Does the fender material scratch your gelcoat over time? I have seen these fenders at the boat shows and really like the concept. But the fender material seemed abrasive. Thank you.

@PYIinc
@PYIinc Жыл бұрын
It is not necessary to apply thread lock to the pitch adjustment bolts or the set screws. The set screws thread in to a tapered thread, and lock as you tighten them. However, if you must, you can use blue Loctite.

@PYIinc

We do not make a PSS Shaft Seal for that shaft and stern tube combination. I would recommend ordering a PSS Shaft Seal for a 7/8" shaft and 1.25" stern tube outside diameter. The rubber bellow will stretch over to fit onto your 1.3" stern tube.

When installing a new kit, do you put lock tite on both set screws ? Just the top one ? My friend said I shouldn’t put the lock tite on until I get in the water in case I have to adjust it. I haven’t seen any videos saying that though. Thanks for any help !

I applied 1 liter onto aprox 24sqft inside the cabin of my boat. Did white w/ the “aggressive” texture over dark blue and in 1 coat and the coverage is very good. Can’t see the blue at all w/ 1 coat. The roller pores do start to fill as the paint sets so make sure you have everything taped and nothing in the way so you can move quickly. Looks pro and super easy to do.

Does the Bellows get "tired" over time. I have just replaced my engine and didn't have a replacement bellow so I just used the standard method of 20 mm from relaxed bellows but the bellows somehow seems a bit more compressed. I'll replace the bellows when I haul out next time but for now I don't want to do that. So I am just wondering if its ok to use the 20 mm compression (1" shaft) on a 5 yr old bellows ?

Hi, Can I use a Volvo shaft seal with your coupling? Volvo say don't use a "flexible" coupling
@PYIinc
@PYIinc 2 жыл бұрын
Hello Bruno. After reviewing the Volvo shaft seal installation manual, I was not able to determine any notice that it cannot be used with the flexible coupling. I did, however, see that it requires the shaft to be centered in the tube. The flexible coupling should not change the alignment of the shaft in the tube. If you would like to reach out to me directly to discuss this, please give PYI Inc. a call. -Miles

I have to agree with this comment. Too many manufacturers who are trying to promote their products rely on an individual talking and that is it. A much better video would be showing the actual various steps, even if it were done on a model representing the various components rather than a real world application.

For the non-US market, it would be worth pointing out in the installation manual, that an imperial sized Allen key is required - 3.5mm is nearly right but you can't torque it to the right amount and risk damage and it all getting stuck. Fortunately I had my Dad's old set

Mine is leaking after 5 years, what do I have to do?
@PYIinc
@PYIinc 2 жыл бұрын
If it's leaking at rest, you will want to clean the two mating surfaces with 600 grit wet/dry sandpaper to clean out any debris causing the water leak. If your PSS leaks while underway, you will want to add more compression. About a 1/4" should do.
