1:34 guitar player here, when he says E scale and plays a D what am I supposed to think in my head?
@fabioceccanti266026 күн бұрын
Hi. Tenor sax is a B flat instrument, it transposes 1 tone down (or up, depending which side you look). If one plays a "C" on a tenor sax, the instrument sounds an actual (concert) B flat. Which means an E scale for tenor sax is a concert D scale (for piano or guitar), etc. So, the answer to your question is when he plays D, you are supposed to think C. Or, alternatively, you can play the same notes he does, and your instrument will sound one tone higher. Which is not a big concern if you do not play along with him.

Which P. Mauriat tenor are you playing? Is that the 66 or system 76?
@RandyHunter26 күн бұрын
It's a 66RUL. I've been very happy with it so far. My old Mark VI has so much key wear on it that it's tough to keep it in adjustment. I've been playing this one for about 4 years now.
@selmertime26 күн бұрын
@ I love my Mark VI, but I tried a 66 in a store recently and found some things to like about it too.
@RandyHunter26 күн бұрын
I agree. The low end is good, but the brightness and projection of the VI is better. Both are great horns.

Thank you for beautiful lessons Randy, can you tell me what mouthpiece and reed do you play, you have beautiful sound!
@RandyHunterАй бұрын
Thank you so much for the wonderful compliment. I'm playing a 10MFAN mouthpiece with a medium (3) strength reed. The brand of reed varies between several different ones. It just depends on whats playing good. If you're interested in the mouthpiece, look the company up online and talk to the maker, Mark Sepinuck. Tell him I sent you his way and he can make a good recommendation.

Randy...You really do this particular Forrest tune real justice at the beginning of the video. It's a real shame most people only know Forrest for 'Night Train' --- IF they even bother to find out who the composer is. Thanks for the tips.

In the classical world, you dont play an altered melodic minor scale downwards, but the harmonic minor scale. It’s a different scale :)

@RandyHunter5 ай бұрын
Thanks for the feedback, Sean. I played these types of patterns for many years before realizing the embedded pentatonic in this one. The realization opened the door to additional applications, particularly when you approach like pairs in a similar manner to the way you can apply triad pairs.
