Those commenting this “new decline position” probably never competed for powerlifting or even tried a training program a day in their life.

Back in the "Old Days" we used a lot of baby powder. LOL We smelled good though. LOL Having chest hair was not fun back then, I kept my chest shaven because too many hairs were pulled out, especially in the armpit. How tight is that shirt? Workout tight or Meet tight. It took me several workouts to get close to touching my chest.

Close grip bench Advantage you can bring anything off your chest disadvantage it's going to stall mid-range to lock out it's harder there wide grip bench disadvantage off the chest it's harder advantage mid-range and lockout much easier so it all comes down to your body leverage how long your arms are how big you are. World Records been broken with both white medium and close grip so generally pick your poison what works for you

225 was my sticking point... when I was in high school I could not hit 225 at 140 pounds bw for like a solid 6 months and it was 100% mental for me. I had a buddy whose dad was a powerlifter and with his help he put blinder glasses on me and then loaded random weight for me to lift and would go up weight and down weight for like a 8 different reps before he let me take the glasses off and I had hit a 240 pr that day just because I was able to quite playing head games.

Excellent informative guidance, thank you BB! Much appreciated the demonstrated part, which showed that should you be forced to carry out the close-grip with index fingers on the smooth, you should then be prepared _not_ to force yourself into full range of motion in the bottom position for the sake of protecting your shoulders - i.e. boldly leaving the bar few inches off the chest in a controlled manner.

Funny enough I made this realization myself the other day. I don't know what prompted the change, but i rotated my hand like this and instantly felt how it was way better and was able to do weights that were a bit of a struggle easily during my workout.

Or just lay down and grab the bar and adjust your shoulder blades.. creates a normal arch that doesn’t look like a rainbow and eliminates the cheating of using leg drive.. and no, using leg drive does not prevent injury. It only helps you ego lift while looking like an absolute buffoon.
