Great video, have you tried the newest (last) Quneo? I would get the MK3 but it doesn't have aftertouch, maybe if there is a 4 and a used 3 is even cheaper. Maschines have had great pads since the MK1
@TheQuestforGroove6 күн бұрын
QuNeo did not respond well unfortunately! And the mk3 does have aftertouch.

Is there any way to go in the settings to fix the pad sensitivity on the machine micro?
@LucasMessore8 күн бұрын
Hey, thanks for the video. Surprised that there's not many detailed comparisons like this for finger drumming on KZbin. I've also bought and sold a scary amount of drum pad devices, but not even close to as many as you. I had a Pioneer Toraiz, the 1st rev Maschine Studio, multiple Akai including the MPC Retro, and currently Ableton Push 3. I'm surprised but not surprised that the higher end Akai stuff isn't mentioned - I thought that people liked the pad feel of those. But tbh the akai ecosystem was really confusing and slow coming from a daw background. I currently use an Ableton Push 3 but to be honest I'm not a huge fan. It integrates well with Ableton as a "midi keyboard controller alternative" for playing instruments. but for finger drumming the pads are too small an don't feel quite right. I also get some weird ghost triggering which makes midi editing more complicated than just using a keyboard. AND it has no support as a standard MIDI device for other DAWs which is a dealbreaker. I might take up your rec and grab one of the Maschine MK3 but NI is so cringey to support these days. My original gripe with Maschine was who needs ANOTHER daw running in your daw? Don't understand why everyone needs to reinvent the wheel. Pro Tools/Ableton/etc. already amazing at recording & sequencing. We just need a pad controller that feels great and can load up samples quickly and efficiently edit layouts, and recall every project. I'm surprised there are there not any boutique, high end manufacturers with better quality pads?

why mikro mk3 and not 1 or 2? is the difference in quality that big?
@TheQuestforGroove19 күн бұрын
I don't test products that are no longer for sale. With the Maschine units specifically you also get problems with software license keys not being transferred etc. Gotta draw the line somewhere.

Excellent video and performance; your course on the web is amazing and highly recommended. I’m almost done with it. By any chance, do you have a tutorial for this song?
@TheQuestforGroove23 күн бұрын
Thank you! No, I don't have a tutorial, sorry. It's a bit complex to explain so it would take many lessons to build it all up. And then other stuff always seems to get priority over this.

Hi! Your video is awesome, I'm about to follow along and clean mine. Thank you so much for the video, really I have a little observation to add: the white flexible cable on the right should be above the black plastic structure, not below. If you see at minute 3:00 and minute 16:56 you'll see what I mean. Thank you again, looking forward to fix it and watch your fingerdrumming videos! Cheers!

2:43 "might have to be broken in" ... that's very generous. Maschine MK3 is the best thing for quiet touches. This video verifies that clearly, though you skip over it quickly. "Just a tiny bit less to soft touches"... But if this is your favorite topic -- it is mine -- then it's a huge deal and dealbreaker.
@TheQuestforGroove27 күн бұрын
Yeah. I'm trying not to be too dismissive without any nuance since that also gets me into trouble sometimes. But indeed... the only pad controller worth playing is the one with an actual good response. Except maybe... the Yamaha FGDP units because the response is "ok" and they're standalone which is worth a lot for some quick practicing.

I don't know if things are different now, but I bought a Maschine Mikro Mkiii on your recommendation and it was so frustrating trying to make it work with Pro Tools. I returned it after a day or two of troubleshooting. All I wanted it to do was behave like a regular midi controller and it wouldn't. You had to make beats and whatnot in the Maschine software then export them in some convoluted way into Pro Tools. It was a huge deal-breaker for me. I'm excited to try out the XJam and I hope I can just plug it in and it works. I need a more sensitive pad controller without all the other bells and whistles that I don't use. Thanks for the continued content creation. I'm glad to see your channel still alive and kicking!
@TheQuestforGrooveАй бұрын
I hope the Xjam serves you well! I still use my Maschine mk3 in midi mode only and it works fine as a midi controller in Reaper. No idea why ProTools would not work...
@samchoate1719Ай бұрын
@ yeah I blame pro tools in this case, not you, I just wanted to share that info. I loved the maschine’s pads, but it was such a pain to try and make it work with Pro Tools. Perhaps that has changed, but I don’t know. Thanks for your reply!

Hi, you didn't have to clean carbon from the board, because it works as a conductor between pads and board. To increase the conductivity between the two, an additional step is usually required, using a special magnetic cream, which provides better communication and conductivity. Thanks for your video.

Hey, would it be possible to do a comparison of the pad sensitivity between a good mpd218 and a bad mpd218? For people who dont know how to check the quality/build/pad sensitivity of a drum pad this would be super helpful! There is very little information on how sensitive is sensitive enough, in general (as someone in you discussion forum said).
@badzigenhalsensisАй бұрын
Tried to order replacement pads from MPC stuff for my MK2, and shipping to Europe is like 60$, and then there will be import tax too so for 120-150$ I will just skip it, because it's not worth, and I won't buy it anymore.

Watching your video as an engineer (hw & sw) and your description of the differences between devices, even of the same type, triggered quite some bells in my head. Very, very good feedback and method of evaluating devices. As a company I’d hire you as a product tester. 👍

Haha thank you, I'd be willing to make time to do something like this for a company serious about building the best and most responsive pads. It does not seem to be the most important thing driving sales unfortunately.

I just picked this up Used. First time Synthesizer user, I initially bought the MicroBrute but I saw this on sale (black friday) and have been wanting a Launchpad or something to finger drum on. Any thoughts? bad mix? Doesnt matter? Only started, almost everyone said to get the MicroBrute as a "Beginner Synth", got it, sounds "nice" still a WIP but I was really lacking finger drumming so I saw this and just Ordered it on a whim, as an early Christmas present to myself.
