Hi Sam I really appreciate how thorough your video was of the Hasselblad 907x I appreciate all your knowledge of the camera I own Canon and Sony bodies but over the last year I’m really thinking about getting a Hasselblad either the 907x or X2d I have never shot with a medium format camera I’m really thinking about getting the 907x because of the different angles of shooting have you enjoyed using and shooting for different angles with the 907x and would you recommend Hasselblad

Thank You for clearly defining the difference between the 50C and 100C. The 907X is on my wish list for the New Year. I have the X1D II and was undecided about which way to go with the 907X. The used prices on the 50C are hanging tough and the delta in cost is manageable to my budget. I just love the Hasselblad Color Science. The output files are fantastic and may only need a tweak at worst. The new lenses are now just a step up from the original XCD series. Again, Thank You for your clear and concise review. 👍👍👍

Beautiful camera, but so confused why the 907x 100c is priced the same as the X2D? The X2D has a grip with buttons, an EVF and IBIS, where as the 907x 100c is missing all of those features and its the same price. Surely there should be a $2k price difference.

I have been shooting film of all types in all formats for nearly 55 years, and digital for nearly 23 years. I have done quite a bit of digitising of film using DSLRs like the Nikon D810 and mirrorless like the EM1 MKII in the high res mode ( 80 MP before some cropping ). An average high resolution B&W film like Ilford PanF or Kodak Tmax 100, shot with something like a Leica APO Summicron lens contains no more than 24 MP of usable data (detail in the film world for better world ) at max, if the photographer's technique was 100% spot on. A kodachrome 25 slide contains about 24~30 MP of real data. With a good 120 Colour negative film (Ektar 100) you are probably looking at about 50~60 MP of usable data. I am not at all a fan of taking digital photos of 4X5, 5X7 or god forbid 8X10 negatives using a digital camera of any sort. Here the basic Epson V7XX @ 2400 DPI will produce negatives of far superior fidelity, once the scatter due to the glass has been dealt with. I am not saying that if you have one of these very expensive MF digital cameras you shouldn't use them for digitising negatives, but in my experience there is absolutely no benefit in using a 100MP sensor to digitise a negatve that contains no more than 16 MP of data (detail recorded on average 35mm film like Ilford FP4 Plus ), or 30MP~40 MP of detail in the case of 120 format. One obvious benefit of using a digital camera to ' scan ' negatives is the the speed and the convinience once the set up has been optimised.

Just for everyone to be clear, the maximum real optical resolution that scanner can achieve is 1560ppi. This means a 6x6 frame (more like 56mmx56mm in reality) scanned in there can only contain roughly 12Mpx at best, usually less than that because of flatness and focusing variations. Anything beyond that is not real information acquired by the scanner. A better solution is needed if you want to get everything film can give you. I've scanned 6x7 Mamiya 7 frames up to 6700ppi (real optical ppi, meaning 270Mpx) and there's certainly a lot to be obtained beyond the 1560ppi the Epson can offer, but not 270Mpx for sure. Beyond something close 80Mpx, the benefits are mostly insignificant. I'd say 64Mpx is the practical limit for 6x6 with normal film and great lenses. Anything beyond that is not very useful unless you are using a film like CMS20II

can i ask you a few things.Ive been also quite fascinated with this setup. so, do you hold it sideways to do a vertical shot? how is the experience of that? i wonder if adding a viewfinder and a grip - will make it more do-able.

As a Blad shooter for decades….they screwed up. The 645 sensor and orientation is garbage; ever tried flipping a motorized Blad body on its side to shoot a typical portrait? PITA!!! Forget the WLF; gotta get a 90 prism. Hasselblad SHOULD HAVE made a rotating back at a bare minimum, or a larger sensor. SIZE hasn’t changed as the MP count goes up.😢

I have just posted a slightly more detailed explanation of your point above. The other point is that they are talking about a $20000 set up to scan a negative that was shot on a $2000 camera and $25.00 worth of film, where something with quarter of the MP would have been more than adequate. I feel that there is a great degree of confusion in the digital world as to what film is really all about!!!

Camera is fine , its your eye and workflow that does the focus , does it same as for Film but its not same , there is a slight difference , Sensor is a bit further in. So when you swap like that , you get accidental film focusing , when you indeed need to configure it for Digital back , its not the same . And im pretty sure in User manual it says so . Sensors work differently they are layered so its impossible to be like film , a flat sheet . Its a small difference . What you do , is go in to live view , focus digitally , there you go spot on . Or maybe there is a shift , focus shift mechanism in there , like on other cameras with Diopter , so it can adopt a bit , but i dont know i dont have that camera. Nor do i believe in what you told . There is absolutely no difference using it with Film or Digital back . Other then one is analog and the other is digital . Its like an Effect put on the image . One gives that ,other gives this . There is no better here . Depends on what kind of image you are taking , but if you are good in your craft , there wont be any difference , i mean you will adapt , and figure it out . And you can do the same with any old camera , the Tool does not make an artist , Artist makes the art with tools he has . So be it digital , or film , picture or video . its you . Fun is Fun , but its not Fun making Art , it takes time , its work , yeah maybe you like it today , sucks tomorrow . things are like that . And most artists whos pictures i like , had basic cameras . its not about having a big camera , actually you need it small , and compact ,so that you can take it anywhere . And if you developed your style , its a fixed lens , no zooms . Because you already know what you will take pictures of . That is what pros do . Small Camera , fixed lens to their needs and there you go . That camera is for studio work , im sorry to tell you but its for those Trash magazine style images , most trashy photographers use it , sell it if you want the world to notice . That is a mediocre photographers tool , not even that , its below , just above amateur . And im not saying it to hurt your filling , i know the feeling , i have cameras ,you think bigger better , more expensive makes better art , but no , just doesn't work that way ..Camera needs to be invisible , to get out of the way , that one with its winding and what not is not . Only for Nature and geography , something big and still . There it can be used . Or in studio for studio work , or make a YT video of it .

It’s nuts how much negative “real estate” the digital back gives up…compared to the 6x6/film. I mean…that’s WHY I bought into the system in 1984….😂. If a true FF/sq. Sensor back was available, I’d probably make the plunge…for fun sake, not practicality. (Ive got 36-45mp DSLRs for that).

great review, and the fact you where asked to beta test it. One point that would help us users is: the v-system film magazines have a darkslide, so why not put one on the CFV100C ?, so you don't risk scratching the sensor (when taking it off, esp. if switching between the 907x and a 500/200 series system body) which is one thing users do, as we have a film system and this digital, as to add the 50 or 100C back, you Must buy the 907x as a system; this darkslide is a nicety, but also another good idea, is if they used a USB-C port for the Tethering socket, so we CAN add it to modern computers, or at least include a firewire 800 to usb socket adaptor IN THE BOX.
