A lot of what he has done like this stunt, or when he drove with a detached front wing totally impairing his view in Montreal is totally stupid, dangerous and reckless. He endangered him and other drivers. But my god, it's so hard not to absolutely adore to bits this crazy Canadian. ❤

Does anyone know the initial cause of this crash ? Villeneuve is already spinning (with right rear damage) as his car comes into frame. Had he hit the wall further back in the approach to this bend, or another car ?

He crashed on lap 82 of the 100 lap event. In honour of Bandini, the Monaco race is 82 laps.

well if you think about it, this is nothing compared to the reality of the world wars. People adapt to their environment. Sure its still a tradgedy, but so was basically the entire world circa the 21st century. Though to be fair it still is just in the shadows

It may seem callous, but it should be remembered that things were rather different back then. Not only had the entire population been through war (rationing only ended in 1954) but there was a sense that journalism ought to be highly objective, avoid very emotive language, and have a stoic character. It was expected that nobody needed news to tell them how to feel by taking a moment to speak emotionally. Instead news *reports* were to take on the character of, well, a *report*, just the facts. It wasn't live, and fact-heavy detailed bulletins like this could come a week after the event, after everyone has already heard about what happened in brief.

"I think that the accident was bound to happen as it was caused by an appalling number of circumstances. I think that most drivers would have acted as I did...they would have pushed the car, they would have tried to go back to the pits...I was at the end of a rather slow bend and there was plenty of room on the road to pass. The road was quite wide and I never thought there was any danger. Anyway I had to take the car away from the middle of the road, because it was stopped in the middle. Before the accident I never felt I was personally in danger nor did I feel that I was endangering other people's safety. I shall certainly not stay for the next event because the organisers have asked me not to compete. Personally. I would not have taken the decision to refuse to compete in that event because I was committed to do so and also because I think this accident was caused by a combination of circumstances and it did not occur through my fault." - Jean-Pierre Beltoise

It's strange how Clark never won this race but dominated the British grand Prix and hill dominance of Monaco in the 60s was incredible as well as Clark at the British grand Prix and both won indy 500 and hill never won the British grand Prix .this race suited hill style and he loved Monaco hugely .

What a tragic crash. Tragically, in the 1966 film "Grand Prix", which Bandini worked on, the Nino Barlini character ( Antonio Sabato Snr,) describes the cars perfectly - inside a can surrounded by gasoline "driving inside a bomb". Rest in Peace Lorenzo Bandini.
