I can’t help thinking that 4-4-2 would shore up the centre midfield and Harris’s energy would be better spent by having someone to run off/for. Vaulks needs more aggression and energy

Didn’t see the game today as a friend’s birthday got in the way. We are certainly getting a bounce from the new manager and are playing with confidence and appear to be enjoying playing again. The window is going to be interesting.

Great win. Ex WBA player Phillips offered nothing and it got a bit nail biting at the end. Who is Des Buckingham 😮. Milwall deserved to lose with that strip.😊

Still a big fan of Des but 9 points from 3 games you have to hand it to Gary and his team plus the players. Also the away fans were magnificent today. Happy with overall performance and team with the only gripe not sure what Philips has done to secure appearances. Tyler (favourite player) has done OK but seems to be missing in the goal scoring positions. All in all everyone must be happy with end to 2024 and now he start of 2025. COYY!

Good point about penalties, we are due a bit of luck aren’t we 😭. Hopefully Moore and Placheta’s injuries aren’t too serious, we need them desperately. But talk about a proper team performance today, you felt there was definitely a real sense of heart and fight from the whole squad. Onto Preston and coyy 💛

Hi Ian omg it feels so good. Monkey is off our backs finally rubin was fantastic today which was great to see. But I can't fault the team st all do you think there should be a couple of changes for preston simply because he really can't play the same team 4 games in a row. Specially so close to each other. But we will enjoy tonight happy new year and I can't wait to go to preston on Saturday

Excellent performance. I suppose my only quibble was Rowett shutting up shop so early in the game. I don’t see what Phillips brings to the team bar “experience”. Ultimately we got the win, so can have no complaints. 9 points out of 9 now, which was much needed. Looking at the league, we’d might have started to look a little adrift if we’d had an average set of results

Cracking result and marvellous Christmas presents for all Oxford fans. It has certainly removed doubt that the board acted in haste. Having said that many many thanks to Des for all he did for us. WBA need John Heitinga and Koumas from Liverpool (via Stoke for Koumas). Have Daryl Dike fit. Recall our young central defender. Give Villa Dobbins back. I really can't recall getting anyone any good from the Villa ever. Of course we need Oxford to always win (at home at least).

We do seem a lot more mobile under Rowett as I felt that we were a bit too fixed under Buckingham. Definitely more exciting to watch. Vaulks looks a different player and you’re right that it does restrict Brannagan but he was getting around the pitch pretty well I thought. Interesting to see how we fair at Millwall. The rumour that I heard was a loan to Stevenage, could be nonsense but it makes sense if he is not playing with us, I feel sorry for him. Thanks for your great work and happy new year Ian! I also forget that Brannagan is just coming back from injury himself so maybe he is just getting back to 100%. Wednesday fans tell me a lot about Vaulks and how good he was for them. From what I’ve heard Goodwin is the best finisher in training out scoring Scarlett and Harris. If this is the case I hope he gets given more chances

Maybe, if that is the case then I am not sure why he hasn't been given more of a chance. Personally I hope he does go on loan and score a load of goals. Better than not playing for us.

Great review as always Ian,we look like a new team Gary Rowett has installed some confidence in the side,Long looks good,vaults is a different player,both of them hitting long raking balls,Rodriguez looks more assured placheta looks like a player who believes in himself.we we're told he was a tricky winger & now we're seeing it,goodrum doing what goodrum does,this side looks like it believes in it self,I'm not getting carried away though,it's still going to be a fight & scrap to the last day of the seasonbut at least it's in our hand,two games don't make a season,but there is light at the end of the tunnel COYY

Rowett (and it is only 2 games to judge) seems to have just made everything simpler for the Oxford players. I forgot about Rodrigues, but he has played really well in the 2 games too.

I genuinely like the opinions of the opposition fans, so didn't want to come across as sticking the boot in. Finally, Rooney has gone and hopefully you can get someone in to turns things around. @ thanks! for me it’s Schumacher, he has experience of being with the club before and got us promoted here in the first place, He also started the last season of pretty well with us in 16th I think. So I’d say Schumacher would be the perfect shout.

I’ve been super critical of vaulks’s performances all season, and I believe that to be justified, when we bring in experienced players to perform a function we need and they look completely lost and directly cost us points multiple times I think it’s fair to point some fingers. However, It would be unfair of me to not recognise that his performance today was fantastic. He looked composed, effective, confident, driven and a vocal leader on the pitch. He contributed to moves that resulted in opportunities for us and he was involved defensively effectively also. The thing I was most pleased to see was his vocal presence amongst the team, encouraging players, giving effective instructions and keeping the team focused on the job. At one point I could even hear him clearly from my seat making sure everyone kept their heads and energy up. If that’s the Vaulks we get every week I have faith he will be a major contributing to our eventual success in staying up. Just for the love of god, don’t pass it back to him when there’s nobody behind him.

Excellently written, and Happy New Year. When you think about how poor he was vs Leeds. It's almost like a completely different man has arrived for the last 2 games. Wednesday fans could not believe he was on the bench when we played against them, maybe finally we will see the player they raved about. Big test for everyone today. I am really looking forward to the game today. Can't say that was the case a few weeks ago, where I was dreading some of the games. COYY

@ very big test today indeed. I don’t think we can expect to win, but we should absolutely turn up and get amongst it. Strength at the back, composure when we have a chance or 2, 1-1, points on the road. I’ll see how this ages in about 6 hours 😂

Another good result. I love the way this team and some of the players keep proving me wrong. I wouldn't have had Rodriguez in the side today or placheta on Boxing Day but they proved their worth in these two games . Kieran Brown absolutely immense. It's between him and pk for player of the season so far. I'm also happy how long makes up for a slight lack of ability with just a tremendous work ethic which seems to infect the other players. I hope we can do it at Millwall and I'll be going up to Preston. Hope we get something up there (by the way did you see Preston's result? I didn't see that coming.) however you noted their improved form in your prediction .. keep up the good work

Cheers Peter. Happy New Year. It feels like a new team, as the players seem refreshed and certainly played with confidence on Sunday. I'm looking forward to the game today, which is a nice change, as I was dreading some of the games during December. Very curious to see how Rowett approaches the game today. Good job going to Preston, I think they have been largely solid in Heckingbottom. They have drew a lot of games where they maybe should have won. Very physical side, and I think that upsets a lot of teams. Anyway fingers crossed for today. Maybe it will be the first away win of the season.

Good evening ian happy new year when it arrives. Again thankyou for your latest video lately I have had a hell of a lot of time to think bout things I know that's on the border line of been very dangerous me thinking lmao. But I worked out all oxford need to do is win just another 10 games and we will be safe. Let's be honest i was worried we could get a worse points total than Rotherham last season but thankfully we have nearly surpassed that so that's a goal achieved already lol lol but seriously if we can get between 9/10 more wins then we should be fine, I know it's easier said than done. Happy New Year to you. It is a really hard league. No win has been easy (apart from Plymouth). However, I still maintain we have not had a lot of luck. 0 pens, 0 OG's or deflected goals and no errors by the defence that gift us a goal. At some point you would like to think that would change. I think around 45 points will keep us up, but last season it was more than that. I am looking forward to the game today. Hope Rowett can change the away form.

Yes, they were 2 favourable games against teams in really bad form. However, wins have been hard to come by so I think we have every right to celebrate them. It is a massive test today, but I am looking forward to it.
