Based on our near miss and play off final teams of the last years we have to say this our best chance. Main worry is January. Doak recalled or key players sold, and it could rock us.

It was a great win today but we did have to come back from 1+0 down and Oxford kept on pushing for goals in the second half. At one point it was concerning that maybe we might repeat the Norwich game and throw away a solid lead. I wish Oxford all the best

Boro fan here. Sadly I think Oxford today were against a boro side just hitting form after an average start. We have one of the best squads in the league and when it clicks would score 4/5 most games. I enjoyed your fair breakdown of the game and good luck for the rest of the season. I spent quite some time in Oxford in my younger days so have found memories :)

It was always going to be a struggle for us this season, but we are giving it a decent shot. Boro were superb on Saturday though and going forward you were devastating. Boro fan here. Our overall feeling is we've actually been good all season (barring a couple of games) and just been conceding stupid goals,having strange drop offs in intensity and we had problems finishing chances. That being said we should really have had a few more points on the board. It seems like in the last few games things are coming together and us smashing up teams like we have been isnt really a suprise, its just been a bit of a wait to get going. There really no reason we wouldnt get an automatic spot.

Thanks very much. We are struggling at the moment. We are competitive in most games, but there is always a period where the opposition seems to step it up and we struggle. Feels a lot like 2022 for me as a Boro fan where once our attack are firing we are unstoppable but the defence again struggle to keep clean sheets. When we got promoted in 2015 when we didn’t score we knew we wouldn’t concede, too many draws to losses and wins into draws will keep us in the playoffs and no more I think

We certainly have a strong sqaud, just look at the subs we can bring on. Last season when howson was injured it really made us look weak in midfield, now we are in a position in that a lot of fans are worrying when he is starting due to injuries. Not because he isnt necessarily good enough but because who he is replacing. We have a lot of injuries still but hopefully it doesn't effect us as much as last season. I think Oxford will be ok, i know we battered you today but your home form has been strong. Keep that up and you will do alright i think. When you went one nil up i was surprised you still remained so open and still attacked, we struggled when going a goal down earlier in the season when teams sat on the lead. Thanks for the comment. How long are the midfield duo out for? didn't sound like they were big injuries. Shaping up to be an exciting season for Boro though. Staying up would be a big achievement for Oxford. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but I thinkI would rather see Oxford trying to go for more goals and a win rather than trying to defend a 1-0 lead for over an hour. We had a big chance at 1-1. Cheers Stuart. That is an excellent point. I do wonder if we might loan Goodwin out in Jan. Not because he is not good enough, but because he needs to play games. He has barely kicked a ball this year because of injuries. When we are under the cosh or need a late goal you would think he would be a useful option.

A very good review from your perspective and good to see you giving credit to the winning team. However, the penalty changed the game today, because at 1-0 and Boro having their usual possession percentage with nothing to show, could’ve been very different. Thankfully your lad lunged when he probably didn’t need to and that gave us the chance and then we were just to clinical and as you say, probably eased off, hence your 2nd. @ Iv highly rated Brynn for years I first seen him aged 17 for Boro youth and shocked it’s took 7yrs for him to make his league debut for Boro. He’s still a baby in the goalkeeping world at 24 and all those loans in the lower divisions has done him the world of good rather than being our number 2 or 3 season after season. Good review . Yes first and foremost they were the best team we've played by a country mile and deserved winners. Like you I don't think there is one Oxford supporter who thinks Harris should start. For me he shouldn't even be on the bench . He contributed nothing and missed another good chance . Thansk for your service but he's just not championship standard . Neither is Rodrigues I'm affraid . You guys have got some talented players and do cause visiting teams problems. Pretty sure you will have enough to stay up with the fighting spirit youve shown so far prior to today, you never gave up condisering the scoreline. Lately we've been getting goals and now the points on the board that we have deserved in previuos games, but are starting to stamp the mistakes out now. It really is time that Des fell out of love with Mark Harris. Very likeable lad and a hard worker, but just not good enough at football at this level! In 209 league games he has scored 39 goals, and in 6 appearances for Wales he has yet to score. His stats don't lie. Today he fluffed the 1-on-1 with the keeper when the scores were level, a crucial moment in the game. Scarlett is on form and has scored as many as Harris in far fewer minutes on the pitch. It's a no brainer!!

I thought Oxford started well and obviously got the goal, a lot of positives, I think a mid table finish for Oxford. A bit like Luton I think you've played the Boro when they're in top form. For Boro promotion is the aim, top 2 might be tough but they'll be in the mix. Carrick has assembled a strong squad which was evident today with our 2 main midfielders injured.

We got murdered today, played ok and went a goal up, then they got the penalty and they pushed on, 3-1 up on half time it was always going to be a uphill task, then they go 4-1 up and it’s pretty much game over. Credit to Oxford reducing the deficit to 4-2, but it spurred them on again and killed the game off with 2 more goals. I feel incredibly deflated. I think we need a forward and centre back in January if we have any chance of surviving, Sheffield united next 😢

We are not in the relegation zone yet Matt and there are still 90 points to play for. We had a good chance at 1-1 to retake the lead. Annoyingly Harris couldn't take it and then Boro scored 3 quick goals before and after HT. That killed the game. We have games in December against sides we should be more competitive against. Plymouth twice, Millwall, Cardiff, Sheff Wed and QPR. Don't lose hope just yet, and I am sure Oxford will strengthen in January too.

I think Goodrham did play inside in this game, but yes that is where he should be playing. It was a lesson, but I still think we played better than we did against Hull, Swansea or Sunderland. If you take HT out if it Boro scored 4 goals really quickly which is always going to kill any game. Actually thought Oxford played quite well at times. Better than some games this season including the Hull game which we won. I don't get the Harris situation either. Scarlett needs to start every game until new year now.

It did Terry, Moore is usually good with his slide tackles, but he got that one wrong. I think the chance we missed at 1-1 was pivotal as Boro really scored 3 quick goals after that (excluding HT) and that killed the game. Boro were excellent though.

They had pace and skill and lets be fair a lot of sides would have struggled against them. They really scored 4 goals in very quick succession so the score went from 1-1 to 4-1 in double quick fashion (minus half time) which just killed the game. I still think Oxford played better in this game than they did against Hull, Swansea, Sunderland but Boro were just so clinical.

Could have been, Outside the box then it may have been, ref's seem lenient when they give a pen these days. They don't tend to send the player off. Either way it didn't effect the outcome.

Yes the penalty was debatable, Harris should’ve scored & we conceded at critical times. Had either of happened I’m sure the game would’ve been different but another narrow win, loss or draw may just have papered over the cracks, whereas this result has put giant neon signs around them and will hopefully serve us better in the long run, much like the Bolton defeat did. Ordinarily after a result like this you should put your money on a dull 0-0 in the next match but with Moore out, returning players still weeks away from full match fitness and away to the high flying Sheffield United next up I would be ripping arms off for a 0-0. I agree about the set pieces. Vaulks has been woeful with the dead ball and every game I’ve been lecturing my poor lad about how Goodrham, our smallest player who is technically very competent, should be taking them….although now Brannagan is back anything in our 1/2 will probably be a direct shot 😂 Re Scarlett I suspect Buckinghams thinking is that Scarlett had minutes in two away matches for England so he wanted to manage him to give him the best chance of playing a big part in the games after Sheffield Utd where we really do need to be picking up points. Looked at it like that it’s a sign that he may have elevated Scarlett above Harris in his thinking.

It was a foul. I am just saying that players often get away with it when there is a foul after the forward takes the shot. Not saying that is right, just saying you get away with it more often than not.

@OUFCFanView yep I didn't disagree with your reading of it. Personally I think these should always be given as fouls, simply because there's an argument to say players are put off when they sense someone flying in.

@@Zipparo I think so too. Consistency is always going to be a grey area for refs though as 1 will see it as a foul and then 1 wont.
