This was the best video I've found so far as a new reader. The new books I've bought and the few used ones had next to no eye. I had done the flipping the pages from the front and back leading to the middle on all of them several times and didn't see much improvement in opening the eye, though it did help with stiffness. The big key was when you pinched the pages front to back from the middle and open and closed the book slowly, this really made the eye come through and got rid of almost all of my gutter loss, not to mention making the books more comfortable to read since I could lay them completely flat. Thank you

What the heck, I just checked my Boys omnibus and you're right, it's the same. The glue doesn't bleed upwards as bad as on my TMNT book though. But it's strange that it's the same where it looks fine from the top, but looks like glued binding from the bottom. I just can't wrap my head around the process that is being used and results in this outcome. I'm really quite baffled. I can't tell specifically where these books were printed, but both say they are printed in Canada. Perhaps they come from the same place and were made using the same baffling process?? I really have no idea! At least my copy of The Boys looks like it'll hold up slightly better than TMNT will.

@@xanarxanar5681 Geez. See Omar never mentioned about the glue binding issue. I just went by how the eye looked and the pages seemed to lie over pretty decently. Am I right in thinking this the first omni dynamite have done though. Could be a few issues they need to iron out for future omnis? I wouldn't mind watching a separate overview about this omni ComicBound🙂

Thanks for the overview on this Adam, ive been on the fence about this for a while mainly due to the size but you've cleared that up for me 😁👍 shame about the binding though, ill be looking out for this when i get my copy 🤔
@ComicBound
@ComicBound 2 жыл бұрын
I was actually nervous that this wouldn't be oversized... Even though I know the actual single issues were oversized so it would have been hilariously ridiculous if for some reason this came out as standard size! But yeah really happy with this apart from the issue with the glue removing the ink from the pages in the gutter where it's seeped through. It won't be as noticeable with pages that have panel border in the gutter, but my example in the video is like one of the worst places it could have happened! Definitely would like to hear if this is a widespread issue or just my copy. I can't imagine how it happened to only odd copies, based on what I see. But I guess we'll see when more people get their hands on it! Thanks for watching mate!

@ComicBound
@ComicBound 2 жыл бұрын
I would say you could jump right in! All you really need is to have some surface knowledge of who the main characters are. This story is set in the future and as long as you know the main cast, the story itself does a great job of bringing you up to speed with what's going on. There's plenty of flashbacks for important moments in the past. I'd say it's really quite self contained. Thanks a lot for your support mate. I hope you're well!

@@ComicBound Great news, I'll probably pick it up at some point but maybe wait for the trade.. A bit surprised and a little disappointing to see the book isn't that well made considering how well this book sold in singles. Thought a little more care would've been put into it.. Hopefully even with it's faults it is still a decent book you will be happy with owning. A hard one you probably won't be able to send it back because technically its not damaged and I suspect all copies may be like that. Not bad thanks Adam, don't know if I mentioned it to you but was recently diagnosed with epilepsy. So been adjusting and everything but I'm getting there. Anyway hope you have a good weekend.🙂

Haha I definitely didn't take much time with this one! I really just wanted to get people a very quick look since I got the book quite early and there was this slight issue with my copy that I can imagine might be more widespread. I don't really have very much time to make videos at the moment, and I'm sure the people who are actually good at doing these overviews won't be far behind me with a proper in-depth and detailed look! Not too crazy about this storyline, though love the art style & coloring, it,s just being a bit of a purest, don,t like Dick Grayson being Batman. Didn't like it in the Knightfall storyline either, love Damian Wayne being another Robin though, go figure, eh? Only recently have come to actually like the Jean Paul Valley Batman replacement in Knightfall, love it now, hated it in the day. Suppose I know now how Robin purists may,ve felt about Jason Todd being the new Robin in early eighties. Jason & Jean Paul were fine though for me only Bruce Wayne can be Batman to me. ( At Marvel have only recently have come to accept that Tony doesn't HAVE to be the only Iron Man.).

Hey don't worry about that, it's completely intentional! This is how issue 5 was originally printed. It was a creative choice to try and have the reader be as lost and disorientated as Batman is while he's in the maze. I thought it was brilliant, but admittedly sometimes it works a little too well! But don't worry your book wasn't misprinted! I hope you're enjoying it! 🙂

I've only been into omnis for about a year and a half. In that time, I've collected about 30 of them. For the MOST part, they've held up very well and I'm more than satisfied with the quality and build. However, I do have a couple that have binding issues (Secret Invasion by Bendis & The New X-Men by Morrison, if anyone wants to compare notes). Specifically, the eye is not really arch-shaped anymore. When opened, it forms more of a triangle, as if the eye has creases in it. Also, the ribbon has started to come apart from the block on both of these books. It's not that bad yet, but I have very low expectations that they will remain intact over time. My question is this: Why is the larger eye desirable? Is it ONLY to avoid gutter loss? Because if that's the case, I think I'd prefer to have the bindings that are "squarish" and less flexible, with very little eye.. It just seems that, with my admittedly small amount of experience, the smaller, more rigid eye has a greater chance of maintaining it's integrity than the looser, larger eye variety. Any thoughts on the subject, from any of you, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the video! That's one of the most informative (and courageous!) omnibus spine stretching videos I've seen. I am relatively new to the omnibus scene. I've only been purchasing them for about a year and a half. My question is this: Why exactly is it desirable to have a larger eye for your omnis? Is it ONLY to prevent gutter-loss? Because if that's the only reason, I think I'd prefer to have LESS of an eye in mine. I have about 30 omnis now. I'd say about half of them have a fairly large, open, flexible eye, and the other half have pretty "squarish", blocky types of eyes, similar to the eye in the beginning of this video.. I have had a couple of my omnis begin to have problems, and it seems like it only happens to the books that have the largest, most flexible eyes. It sort of seems like the larger the eye, the more likely it is that the spine will have problems, such as the ribbon becoming detached from the block (which I know is also a fixable condition, but I'd rather not have to). Another problem I've had is where the eye doesn't really form a nice "arc". Rather, it seems to form a crease or a crack and kind of seems more like a triangle than an arc.. From my, admittedly limited, experience it just seems like the books with lesser eyes, or almost NO eyes at all, don't develop these problems. I was just wondering what your thoughts on this are. Of course, anyone else who'd like to chime in with their two cents are also welcome. I'd love to hear from anyone who has an opinion about it.

Can you do this with smaller hard covers? I have thisAvengers Red Zone hardcover I recently bogught(its roughly 69 pages and the size of a normal comic)and it looks like the eye is glued to the spine but Im not sure if its supposed to be like that or not Im also trying to do this on a Batman hard cover, and the eye is opening at the bottom more than the top
