Hey, out-of-towner visiting the Columbus area soon. What are the typical running times for NKPA and NKWA? Do they run seven days a week or just certain days? Thank you.
@CSXGirl8225 ай бұрын
Hi there! Both the NKPA and NKWA run 7 days a week. Lately the schedules have been changed so that the NKPA runs in the morning (they usually get here to Columbus in the 9:00 AM hour) and have departed as early as before noon and as late as almost 3 PM. The NKWA has been changed to later at night, I'm not exactly sure when they leave Newark but I hear them coming through the crossings after they depart Watkins after midnight, the latest I've heard has been around 1:45 AM. Power is no longer these ex-UP LTEX units but a trio of SD60M's in G&W orange from the Buffalo & Pittsburgh. If you use Facebook, there's a group for those for railfan the OC that you might be interested in as well since it's a great resource for information. Hope this helped!

Excellent. Have you by any chance seen any of the new heritage units?
@CSXGirl8227 ай бұрын
Thank you! So far I’ve only seen the Chessie System unit (#1973) and it wound up finishing off my GoPro camera haha. A few of the others will often be spotted heading to the yard in my city but it’s almost always at night and it’s not the safest place to watch trains.

I caught that myself last year. And the 1982. I gotta keep my eyes open, and see when the others will get towards my neck of the woods.

She is, I just have her down as a B23-7R in the description since that's what is stenciled on the cab leftover from CSX.

I do apologize about the wind in this video - you can see what we were dealing with in the last shot. There was actually supposed to be drone footage to accompany the ground level shots, but the wind was so bad it blew the smoke from #85 right into the motors and I almost lost the entire drone!

My grandfather took me to LALS when the club first started in the 1950's. To me, the hobby is about keeping steam alive and I have done my part by building a Fitchburg Northern 2-6-0.

when I was a kid we climbed all over those trains and cars. In and out of them. We also spent lots of time wandering those tracks. The Anheuser brewery used trains to transport lots of beer.

Hopefully you weren’t part any of the kids who vandalized everything at the place that they had to put a fence up, but not that it deters the extremely determined people anyway… They still use trains to transport hops to the brewery but they’re on the neighboring freight railroad tracks next to the museum’s.

@@CSXGirl822 no we never wanted to damage anything. We just thought they were so cool and their history was amazing. Sometimes they would bring in new old cars and they would just sit for months and months with nothing done on them. This was maybe 1976, 77, 78 I think. We loved those trains and spent many a summer walking the tracks down to the end of the museum tracks - past /through Harding Hospital and near Post Lake.

So, I guess that's it. No more vids from this great channel, she did say in her 2020 goodbye video that she had to almost completely leave her channel(Like me). Ah well, she might comeback, or not, but I guess this might be one last goodbye for a while(Or forever). - Sid
@CSXGirl8222 жыл бұрын
It wasn't uploaded with the intention for it to be the last video, to be honest. After this was uploaded A LOT has happened - I had to change jobs, move again, a family member passed away, I've been harassed multiple times by the ex of another family member (stealing my photos from Railroad Picture Archives and making fake Facebook accounts under my name in an attempt to ruin my reputation, not that I had one to begin with!), and I'm lucky to even get out of the house with time for myself now, let alone get some free time to railfan. Also found out a lot of people in the local railfan community weren't really my friends so that presents the new challenge of finding a place to watch without having to deal with that, plus I'm no longer associated with a certain railroad museum that was featured pretty prominently on the channel. I know that's probably going to sound like a load of drama or bs to most people reading this, but that's as much as I can explain without telling everybody some personal information that I don't feel needs to be publicly said. If I ever found the time and motivation I would love to make videos again, I've got years worth of footage that could be used. But right now I'm pretty busy with other things in my life and depression is kicking my ass to the point it's difficult to even enjoy the things I love like trains and railroading. Never say never for this channel coming back, but I don't want to give anyone false hope either. Thank you for the kind words, I'm sorry I let so many people down.

@@CSXGirl822 Hey, you didn't let anybody down. None of what you said is your fault. Tough things can happen, but when you keep on reminding yourself of them, you can't really move on. So you just have to keep on moving, and eventually, you'll find yourself having a good time again. After all, that's just life. - Sid

I'm pretty sure that's an A+B Horn, very similar to an AA-2 but smoother. It sounds like Steamranger 507.
@CSXGirl8222 жыл бұрын
It’s definitely an AA-1 but is out of tune. Right now it’s out of service for new diaphragms, which I’ve been told can influence sound enough to make it sound like a different note. I’m personally not a horn expert enough to know enough about the sound, but it’s definitely supposed to be an AA-1 which is the correct horn for a couple other cars at this museum.
@Marcus-dw1po2 жыл бұрын
@@CSXGirl822 It's actually an Wabco AAC-1 (C = Curved bells) tuning plays around 311/405 and also uses the same diaphragms on the Wabco AA1 which I happen to own.

Fun fact: The largest steam engines in operation today are US nuclear aircraft carriers and nuclear submarines. They are steam-electric but still steam driven nonetheless. And of course, electric cars that are charged from lines serviced by coal or nuclear fired power plants are essentially steam powered at one stage of their energy conversion. Steam is the most efficient form of energy generation to this day and it is not going anywhere soon.

Hello, im interested and in need of someone to come or a place to take my grandfather's steam engine for repair. It needs the boiler rebuilt. He built it in the 70s and it ran until 2009. Four generations have enjoyed it and now a five generation needs the experience and joy but grandpa has dementia now and can't do it alone. If any knows of a place or someone near Pittsburgh PLEASE reach out to us via Facebook, Heather Pugh picture of a new born with a saying " I love my grandson to the moon n back"
