when i paint my second color nothing happens sadly
@JamieDunbar16 сағат бұрын
Hey mate. I assume by “second colour” you mean the first time you actually use the paint brush? The most common problem people have is accidentally create more than one image texture. It’s very easy to do and Blender will get confused as to which texture to use. Go into your shader editor and make sure you just have the one image texture and that it’s attached to the Principled shaders colour slot.

great tutorial even though mine looks nothing like that at all, my started glowing like an emission lol
@JamieDunbar16 сағат бұрын
Lmao, that’s impressive! 😜 Make sure the final shader node is connected to the output material. Obviously make sure nothing is connected to an emission slot by accident. And finally check you haven’t cranked up a light intensity massively.

I tried this but my paint came out so incredibly jagged and didn't look remotely like what I was painting on my UV.
@JamieDunbar3 күн бұрын
I’d start by double checking the size of the image texture. Jagged painting suggests you may have a very low resolution texture.
@TalentedTacoTrex3 күн бұрын
@@JamieDunbar Thank you, sadly that was not it as even setting the texture resolution to 10k x 10k made no difference. I think the issue may be related to the actual mesh that I've created as it's quite sloppy.
@JamieDunbar3 күн бұрын
@@TalentedTacoTrex That's definitely possible. This is a very quick and dirty way of creating UVs. Go to the UV editor and have a look at the UVs. If you have hundreds of tiny islands (rather than a handful of larger islands) there's a good chance that's your problem.
@TalentedTacoTrex3 күн бұрын
@@JamieDunbar I appreciate it. It's actually only two islands funny enough. I was trying to figure the best way to make a mountain so I took a sphere, cut it in half, then stretched out the top. Then wanted more geometry to make changes so I add more vertices and then remeshed. I'm assuming that's too much which probably caused the problem so I'm going to try to redo it.
@JamieDunbar3 күн бұрын
@@TalentedTacoTrex Is there any chance you made the UVs, then did the remesh? That will definitely break your UVs. Otherwise, I'm surprised a mountain shape would give the automatic UVs too much of a problem. Let me know how you go with it. If you can't figure it out I'd be curious enough to take a look.

For some reason, when I use Paint Hard to try to color it, it doesn't work, but if I select Paint Hard Pressure it draws normally on the object, why is this happening?
@JamieDunbar7 күн бұрын
Hey mate, those brushes are only available in Blender 4.3 and above, so I haven't really played with them that much. I just had a quick test and by default it looks like both "Paint Hard" and "Paint Hard Pressure" should work. So it might be that you've changed the settings on the "Paint Hard" brush by accident. The "Pressure" brushes should also be using the sensitivity on your tablet, so it might have something to do with the settings on there as well.

question,,, can you texture paint over objects with an assigned materials + shaders? please help
@JamieDunbar16 күн бұрын
Hey mate. It sounds like you may have got confused between textures, materials and shaders. Which is perfectly understandable because we often use them interchangeably. So shaders are nodes like the Principled BSDF shader, or a Diffuse shader, or a Glossy shader. Images textures plug into those. So you might have a colour texture. Or a roughness texture. Or a displacement texture. And you can have any number of shaders or textures inside a material. So to (hopefully?) answer your question - yes, you can paint texture into objects that have materials or shaders assigned to them.

You can either do individual UV maps for each object. Or, if you want to combine them into one, just select all the objects at once and go through the process. You may still need to paint them one at a time, but the texture will be shared between all the objects.

@JamieDunbar23 күн бұрын
Annoyingly there's a number of small things you can run into that can trip up beginners and...I think you've been unlikely enough to hit all of them! Okay, so the texture slots thing will only show up in 4.0 or above. It will also only show up if your model doesn't already have UVs. So if you use the model in the download, you'll see the button. If you're using your own model there's a good chance you already have some default UVs and therefore won't get the button. If you can't see the UVs you likely have the "UV sync selection" button disabled. It's this button here: blenderartists.org/uploads/default/original/4X/9/9/2/99220b552ef54ceb2f81e47b30819aed7a890d5f.png You can also get around this by selecting all the faces on your model in the viewport.

That’s a very common problem ☺️ It’s very easily to accidentally create more than 1 image texture and Blender gets confused which one to paint on. Go into the shader editor and make sure you only have the one image texture and that it’s connected to the ‘base colour’ on the Principled BSDF shader. Hopefully after that you’ll be able to paint.
