In many Japanese bonsai videos I have seen artists ‘thinning’ the tree in montages. Only now after your video understood the intent and the vocabulary. Also really appreciate you taking the effort to zoom into your fingers for us to see how the decisions are made. Thank you

Hello Jelle, thank you for so many great tips for growing bonsai. I`m following you on you tube since two years and I tried to thin out my taxus and it`s working much better than pruning or cutting (in only four weeks). I`m very happy. Thank you so much!

Ohw thank you so much! Then.. This afternoon the sun will come out. I am releasing a funny short (just a 15 second message I am afraid.!) I hope you will enjoy it!

I have been following your videos for a number of years now. I have probably been into bonsais longer than you but don’t have a fraction of your talent. I will say this much - your videos are simply among the top 5 bonsai channels in KZbin. Your topics are always pertinent, the photography and closeups are perfect and your commentary is just spot on👍 Keep ‘em coming Jelle!

Love how you say "thinning out (not pruning)" yet start pruning just over 1 min into the video lol Dutch and their english...At 3:19 in the video you even say pruning yourself. So yeah, great video title Jelle ;)

As always..... great information. I once bought a Yew cutting from you Jelle. I'll treat it like you showed in this video. Do you remember at which time of the year you made the cuttings? Because I just found a huge female Yew that I would like to take cuttings from.

@@GrowingBonsai I've seen this 2 years ago. I'll rewatch it. I guess that I'll wait till next spring to take cuttings then.

@@MokumaBonsai you can try some now and see how they go? I would protect you yew cuttings from frost as their roots are frost sensitive at the best of times

Looks a Taxus Baccata to me. There’s also various selections and hybrids available in nurseries besides the species so it’s possible it’s one of them. Afaik they differ in the growing habit and not so much in needle size but who knows? I am not an expert. 😁
@GrowingBonsai3 ай бұрын
It is a european, taxus baccata. WIth smaller pots, reduced fertilizer and less water needle size can reduce dramatically. It is not the species or variety in this case that cause small needles.
