Great video, and as a Stalybridge resident, spot on. What happened to the rest of your promised videos? Did life take over?

Thank you for this Vlog. It brought back many memories of my childhood, growing up here. I went to Christchurch School and later to Hob Hill school, just down the road from it. We lived on Stamford Estate when it was new and I often walked these streets to school and home again. Sometimes I would also go the other way, down Bayley Street with its industrial feel. I recall the canal changing colours with dye from the clothing mills. Though I left it in 1963, I remember it well, particularly that cold winter. At nine years old I wasn’t allowed long pants and my knees resented it bitterly. The Victoria Market at Christmas time with its big tree was wonderful, the Railway Station with the same platform clock. Somewhere near the two ‘Guinness Book Of Records’ pubs used to be an indoor skating rink. This was where I first heard Hank Marvin playing Apache over the loud speakers. Wonderful ! Stalybridge was a thriving little town back then and I don’t recall any vacant shops. One summer I almost got caught pinching apples in Stamford Park ! But I wasn’t a bad lad, I think that was my only misdemeanour. It’s awful to see the old town in such despair. All this time later, I still have a fondness for the old place. Great Vlog, and thank you again. From Australia.

It was much better when Stalybridge was actually run by it’s own unpaid council and councillors. It went downhill soon after it became part of Tameside run by paid councillors in nearby Ashton who tended to be from the Manchester side of area. In my opinion Stalybridge was quickly relegated to the poor relation of Tameside yet Council Tax remains unfairly high.

Only just seen this video as it was suggested to me by the KZbin algorithm. I used to work in Stalybridge around 1988 & 1989 at a record and computer game shop opposite the indoor market (on Trinity Street), a place called Soundtracks, along with the owner, my boss and a great guy called Dave Bamford. I miss those days! Great video, good memories!

Good video In my opinion Stalybridge was slowly declining but the building of Tesco and KwikSave which is now Aldi killed it off Hopefully the new plans that Tameside keep taunting for Stalybridge will change it for the good and I totally agree with you about the market being farmers market You have a new subscriber 👍🏻

The world economic forum has plans to make sure you can't own your home if you want a home it will be rented to you on a smart phone application if you notice all the buy offers in the Mail they also don't want you to be able to afford a car either moving towards car sharing where only big tech owns cars

I used to walk through this park in 1949 to go from Darnton Road to School (now called 'San Rocco'). Saturdays we would play in 'The Dingle', keeping well away from 'The Parkies' (Park keepers). Not been back since 1954, but always remember happy times. Lincolnshire where I now live has nothing like this. Thanks a lot, Great stuff

I grew up in Droylsden in the 50's and I remember the smell of marmalade days . Did'nt genraly notice the scent of strawberrys most of the time , but marmalade days the whole air ( from about a mile away ) was filled with that delicious aroma . There were other factory smells as well , some of them chemical and on the face of it unpleasant , but filtered through the trusty glasses of nostalgia so comforting .

I never knew how beautiful Stalybridge was Ps there is no pandemic Sounds nuts right? According to the ONS data 2020 is No 34 on the list of mortality since 1970. Were the 33 years with higher mortality pandemic years? No! So can anyone explain how is it possible that 2020 was a pandemic year? onandcommunity/birthsdeathsandmarriages/deaths/adhocs/12735annualdeathsandmortalityrates1938to2020provisional Do not get tested don't get jabbed and do not wear face nappies SWERVE THE JABS like you'd avoid thr plague Can you do a report from Carbrook next?

Loads of history at the Robertsons Jam Factory, Chris. The staff canteen was actually a dance hall and radio shows used to be broadcast from there during WWII. Also, the most famous (or maybe, infamous) employee was one, Myra Hindley. Also, blowing my own trumpet here, Droylsden Medlock Centre was the home of Tameside's only rugby league club, Tameside Borough. Good luck with the rest of it pal.
