Very good analyst as always. Few things, James’ only weakness aside from availability is defending the back post from crosses. That will need to improve as I say every year. What are your thoughts of Gusto inverting? He is quick like Cucu to recover that ball. Very composed on the ball. I do question if he has that over the shoulder awareness maybe. However, as the left back is no longer getting down the wing to cross the ball and Gusto being amazing at defending his flank could he not be the inverting left back allowing to field our 2 best full backs? James becoming the CB and Gusto the CDM. With both Gusto or Cucu playing I keep thinking the secret weapon is both flanks can invert and play as the 3rd CB allowing slight unpredictability as space opens. A quick tactical change without needing a sub. Gusto is so young and so good that I think he could be very quick to learn this position and become one of the most valuable assets in our team.

It’s true to an extent. Chillwell always looks average when coming back from injury which is often. I’d be ok should he be sold. But which buyer would take that risk. James makes a massive impact every single time he is on the pitch. Hopefully, with his operation he will come back and start fit. I’d personally never sell James. Having Gusto really makes me feel comfortable with this high risk high reward situation.

You have made it a lot clearer why the club had to part ways with Poch. Many, including football greats, think it was a mistake to part ways with Poch and they may or may not prove to be right, but one think is obvious is that Poch's coaching philosophy doesn't mesh withChelsea. Base on the playing style of the players we are buying Maresca seems to be the kind of coach these players will strive under. The question is will Maresca get Chelsea to compete for trophies in short order?

I personally find tactical analysis boring, I prefer just to enjoy a game but I am getting hooked to your content sir, thank you very much for the detail. I am excited to see how Chelsea play this coming season because Poch was all over the place and couldn't build a system to suit these tactical players. I am even more excited to see what this Chelsea team will look like 3 years into the Maresca era. I believe Enzo has the goods but has loads of improvements to do and Maresca could be just the right person to turn him into prime Xavi. It will finally come together and I am scared for everyone.

I don’t think we need a new LB. We have cucurella who has recently shown class. Chilwell as a backup. And our new signings Renato Vega. Levi colwill can also play that position

I’ve watched Enzo Fernandez for one and half seasons and I don’t see any spectacular vision you claimed he has… Palmer beats him in terms of creativity and vision.. If Maresca wants to succeed.. he needs to play the players based on their abilities and strength.. not because of their price tag… this is the cause of England’s failure at the recently concluded Euro… Trying to squeeze Enzo Fernandez in at all cost may cause his downfall eventually…

Depends how you look at it. Palmer is more risk and reward where enzo thinks more about retaining possession and keeping control of the game. 2 completely different players playing different roles so it's hard to compare who has more vision than the other. Enzo fernandez most definitely has vision and can also split defences with his passing but palmer will express his creativity more due to playing more advanced. Thats why it may seem enzo is not that creative. Both talented players that have to be playing in maresca system

Really puts Poch's time in perspective. This is school boy errors created by Poch. The argument was, Oh, we don't have enough experience, but he was causing this imbalance and issues with his flawed tactics. Yes, he figured it out in the last five games, but imagine where Chelsea could have finished if he had started earlier. For me, the most annoying argument is that this team is a 12th-place team, which is bs. If Maresca can organise this team, next season will see a much different animal. Hopefully.
