I may get the 5090 for gaming, but only because my mindset is that buying the absolute best card now saves money in the long run because I’ll keep it for the next 5-10 years and want it to be future proof for the 4K experience as games continue to push the limits in the next 5-10 years. For reference, I’d be upgrading from a 1080Ti, which I’ve had for about 7 years. I had 1440p gaming when that was the best thing you could have at the time. Now, it’s starting to struggle.

I suspect that you are right on with the pricing. I have side question, though..., When you build PCs for people, how do you keep from getting scammed by those who ask for a build and don't follow through with a purchase payment?

nvidia and their monopoly on gpus will eventually kill R&D especially after amd decided to not produce and compete for high end performance gpus. there is no point for nvidia to keep improving on the gaming side, they will put all the efforts into AI and trickle down some new improvements and features when the competitors get a little too close to them. gaming is fucked

If I were Nvidia, I'd charge $3,499 on a rtx 5090. Consumers will still buy them - if not, scalpers and AI-minded businesses will pay. Business 101 - supply and demand.

I changed out my Lian Li Gallihad 360 aio with an EK Nucleus a few months back when I changed my 12600k to a 14700k. The lian li was unable to keep up with the cooling when I ran cinebench r23. It would throttle the 14700k. Of course this was also when I enabled the asus mce before intel had their limits put on it. (I only ran that a little bit like that before turning off mce) but when I changed to the ek nucleus and I also went to a 6 fan push pull configuration, it dropped it about 10 degrees when I ran cinebench r23. I am curious, Dan, if you have ever dared to delid a processor and run with an aio meant for delidded processors.

The seem to be do little step ups in terms of performance this time around . Not because that’s all they could do but on purpose. The 3070 and 4070 could match the top end last gen cards in performance in SOME games and even exceed in others. This time the 5080 is a 4090 replacement and the 5070 is the only matching the 4070ti. I bet money that the low end card stay around the same performance this time around as well. I bet money the 5060ti will not match the 4070 in terms of performance.

I would love a 75w RNA3 card for some tiny itx and smaller builds that can use PD for power. Add in SAM with an AMD iGPU and hopefully being able to set system ram with the iGPU and these would be awesome. I'm moving away from using my 7900xt 7900x3xdxx build for everything, 250w for watching a stream and browsing is a waste. I also find I'm not playing AAA or AAAA games as much and don't need that power for most of what I actually play.

Yes, I agree prices are outrageous, but if we are both honest here, AMD just isn't good, period, idc how you try to put it or explain it. They are only for people that shouldnt be buying a PC in the first place that are trying to save money anywhere they can. So I do agree prices are absurd, and even if we put the fact that AMD isnt as good aside, nothing you or me do will ever make a difference. AMD has 12% of the market and NVidia has 88%. Those are factual numbers which speak for themself & you are free to look that up. AMD fans just have the loudest mouth on the internet and why you constantly see the company praised..... There is a reason I always have to go down a 5 minute rabbit hole before saying the slightest negative thing about AMD and its because even mentioning your GPU having a scratch starts a war lol

i got my 4090 for retail price, and that was like 1.5 years ago just had to get lucky and be on the lookout the only way im getting the 5090 is if its retail, OR if somehow the price changes

@eleos_22 4090 over here in illinois still going tor $2000 at microcenter. When it first came out, they were selling for $2500 to $3000 range. I just ended up buying rx 7900 xtx instead. No regrets buying that either.

I have 3 computers in the house all different gpus. Use the one with the oldest GPU because it actually gives the best picture quality 4090, 4070Ti and a 5700XT. Not shocked at all with the pricing called that one @ the price hikes in the 10 series when the shelves were full of Nvidia cards and the prices were sailing.
