Not directly comparable, but reminds me of some organization that tried to do "e-sports certification" or something and make people pay for it. Even disregarding how their pitch was just buzzword slop (they claimed to strive for both "meritocracy" and "equity" which, unfortunately, are mutually exclusive concepts) they would've just become a middle-man selling something that everyone needs to buy. Kind of like how college degree has turned from "guaranteed well-paid job" to "minimum requirement." Honestly comparison to a college degree isn't great, because from what I remember, the "certification process" included elementary school -level questions of how to mix energy concentrate with water. Some people use the term "rent-seeking" to describe the general principle. Basically you try to insert yourself into an existing system as an unnecessary middleman. Even American health insurance companies and VISA at least technically provide a service to you, it's just extremely subpar. They would still need to be replaced with something if they syddenly vanished. Nobody would miss "influencer academia" or "e-sports certificator."

If I was a PDF hunter, I would be worried my own teammates were actually traitors to the cause. I have heard horror stories of victim groups being infiltrated by PDFs. The world is a terrible place my dude. I feel like I am the only one I trust.
