Awesome! You able to let me know what pinion and spur size as well as motor kv your running in that beast? I just finished up my new XR5 Ultimate with an MGM/Lehner combo that will be on the way as soon as I decide what KV and pinion/spur sizes I’ll want. My goal was 80-100mph with enough space, so the setup you’re running looks pretty much perfect. I upgraded to the hydraulic brakes and IBS shocks, so the 2 speed was the only factory option I didn’t get, even though they told me it works fine with electric setups. I’m sure the single speed is more durable and obviously there is more than enough power… Thanks dude!
@HighVoltageRC308021 күн бұрын
@TheSupradude26 better off with single speed. 2 speed isn't needed with brushless since they have so much torque. It likely wouldn't run 1st gear much or even a noticeable amount. I'm using stock spur/pinion gears, 25/60 I think it is. I did order my car with the OD diffs but I don't think you need them. They might add 5-6mph top end but you need a lot of space to really stretch one of these out to that speed and be able to stop. I have two other xr5 with the hydrax and they work well. Motor is a 3080 6 wind, 875kv.

Awesome, thanks for the reply!! Even though I’ve been building RC’s for almost 40 years, I’ve never had a 1/5 electric on road so it’s nice to get some info from someone with obvious experience. Looks like the only difference in your setup to mine is the new 50063 500amp esc, and I was thinking of either the sensored 3080 5/1050kv or the sensored 30100 5/840kv. Do you think the extra power of the 30100 would be useable or does going full throttle with the 3080 already break traction at most speeds? I ordered the 60t spur and both the 25 and 26t pinions with the car, but I wasn’t aware they offered different diff gearing… I’ll have to look into that. Maybe something they offer to overdrive the front end on off-road versions? Anyway, thanks again for the info! I’ll post up some vids when I get it finished..
@HighVoltageRC308011 күн бұрын
@TheSupradude26 yeah the overdrive diffs are for tuning but not just offroad. Can help pull you around corners etc but I just got them to add mph since there aren't aftermarket spur offerings as of yet. 3080/6 875kv is plenty.. I'm only on 12s. You could go 15s if you wanted. I've built 30100 rigs and it won't really make any more power than a 3080 unless you got a larger esc but even then you can't really use that power. 3080 is overkill, I wouldn't go higher kv though unless you plan to run less than 12s the majority of the time.

noticed something weird. maybe not calibrated right. car was slow and noticed my motor was only spinning at 21k rpms being a 45k rpm motor.(castle 800) going into the throttle settings I changed it to 50% and up was 100% .. then it went to around 36k rpms. found my sweet spot around 20% being 100% throttle and I'm at 51k rpms now.. but not much trigger room.. what can cause that? plus the motor was cogging bad. hope this helped with that issue

Do you think the 70125 on 16s will compete with the 3080 on 12s? Which provides more torque in your experience also. Do you rate the 70125?
@HighVoltageRC30803 ай бұрын
@DanielK-xn5si 70125 is good but very low KV. I think a 3080 will make more power and is rated for more rpm but you pay for the Lehner. Depending on the use etc either one could be better, or even a hobbywing/castle 800kv.

@stonejss727 I think either way you can't go wrong... if you're in the USA castle support is great and you're supporting a local company. Buddy of mine has the max6 g2/5690 combo in his xmaxx and really likes it. I feel like the mmx8s is kinda between a max6g2 and max5g2, it's a little more capable power wise. Could do the castle esc with 5690 hw motor as another option. They have a sensor adaptor to use the hw motor with standard sensor ports.

What are your P-value settings on the MGM for acceleration? Mine won't let me accelerate that fast without cutting out. Most have experienced the same thing running this combo. I'm running the same MGM/Lehner combo on 12S also.
@HighVoltageRC3080 Жыл бұрын
I'll have to read the esc, not exactly sure where I had this one at but I'm using P16 and P17 to change acceleration time once RPM hits a certain point. Still kinda tweaking it as I have time but it was running pretty good with the current settings. The protections on the esc definitely can cause it to cutout if the acceleration causes too many amps etc etc. If the car is overgeared then it will not accelerate fast, but if you ease in to throttle it can handle the load. Gearing/load plays a huge part but if you're using a MCD with stock gearing like mine the settings I have should help it perform similarly.
@huckleberry8864 Жыл бұрын

Hobbywing has come a long way. I still have the very first Xerun they made when I was helping them with a car ESC. They only had aircraft back when I contacted them to see if they could make me a 12S+ version for vehicle. Actually I contacted just about all the ES manufacturers and only one made a 10S ESC for me. Imagine how far along this hobby would've been if this was done 14+ years ago.

If this works on the XR10/XR8 pro series ESC's the drag racing community will probably have a meltdown since Hobbywing supplies zero information about this. My main question is how many data points per second can we get?
@HighVoltageRC3080 Жыл бұрын
From what I understand it will display whatever the esc supports for data logging. I don't use the xr esc so I can't speak on what they will display just what the max4 shows and once I run my new max5 G2 I'll see if it's any different. I believe it has some other programming options. It is frustrating that HW has not done any videos on this. Maybe we can give them feedback and they can do a "Charlie show" on data logging or something. Would be nice to know if there is something I missed haha
