@ as far as the engine area, unless you already have a video out, what exactly do you do as far as cleaning? I’ve seen numerous videos by others about spraying things down, etc. Assuming that you are just using the right type of cleaner and wiping it down - no protective coatings, etc. My boat is newer but purchased used with about 300 freshwater hours. It doesn’t look as good. I will be using in salt water and using the salt away.
@CaptainLeonsBoatingandMore8 күн бұрын
@@peterkaputsos4125 I know many recommend spraying down the whole engine with a protectant like Yamashield or CRC Marine, etc. I never got into the habit of doing that. My concern is that sometime a film is left that could attract dirt and grime, or so I think. I never get saltwater on the engine so it really stays clean on its own. Once in a while I would spray some fresh water on it and wipe it down. I do vacuum dirt and wipe down the white fiberglass. Being the original owner definitely helps, you do what you can :).

Hi Capt!! Appreciate the video… have a couple questions for you: 1) My Yamaha dealer recommended I change the oil as part of my winterization process. I didn’t see you do that in your video. I don’t mind changing the oil but once I introduce the fogging oil will I need to change the oil again in the spring? Also, I noticed in your summer start up video that you did the oil change prior to the boating season. Given that I am fogging the engines as part of my winterization when is the ideal time to change my oil? Or do I need to do it both times?
@CaptainLeonsBoatingandMore19 күн бұрын
Vincent, most folks say its best to change the oil in the fall so contaminants in the oil does not stay in the engine during winter. Between the fogging oil and winter temp changes, I like to change the oil in the Spring and start the season fresh. I only do 35 hours per season so I don't believe there are too many contaminants in it. Do what you think is best depending on your situation, but changing it both before and after winter is a waste and unnecessary. This video is my attempt to get a better answer to this long standing question. Check it out: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hqGanK2Jqs6Xjqssi=o6QYmYJRqlU1gfFo

Capt,n.. thanks for a detailed video. We just purchased a 2015 242 LS and took it out for the first time. After putting the boat back on the trailer. I pulled the drain and water ran for about 60-90 seconds. The water wasn't warm. I found my bilge pump wasn't kicking on on auto. Fixed that with simply cleaning the area (amazing what you find). Hopefully your video has the solution. We live in Georgia so the season is longer and hopefully I can find out where the water is coming from by process of elimination. Thanks again for sharing.

Does your boat sit in the water or on the trailer? I have a 2023 that I also take pride in and it sat in a slip for the summer. I’m now told that my hull has blisters and needs repair. I was also told that Yamaha recommends not leaving the boat in the water. What? 😢
@CaptainLeonsBoatingandMoreАй бұрын
It's only been on the trailer. While these boats are great fun, safe, reliable and cost effective, they don't do well being wet slipped. Between growth developing on the intake and jet pump areas and potential water intrusion points, you need a lift or trailer if you want to maintain it well. It s what it is.

Nah, the mount fits within the backside of the rim where it's concave. If I reverse the wheel the tire will be protruding out further from the trailer. Good thought though.
@jonathanspier6631Ай бұрын
How much of a sacrifice of reverse thrust strength are you noticing with this installed? JBP says about 30% is being diverted to the lateral outlets, but wondering what your "real world" experience is. Also, is the loss of thrust only when you're turning the wheel hard or is the thrust being diverted literally even when you're reversing straight back?
@CaptainLeonsBoatingandMoreАй бұрын
Hey Jonathan, when I need to stop the boat from forward movement by applying reverse, it stops just fine. I'm not sure if 30% reduction is accurate, perhaps, but I just hit it hard on reverse and it does what I need. To me, having better control left and right in reverse at slow speed is worth any minor loss in reward propulsion. Hard to say where any loss is realized. I enjoy having this product.

As a boat trailer owner, I must suggest a better way. I currently own 14 trailers and speak from years of experience. Don't bother with crimp-on connectors, soldering connectors, shrink tubing, or any of that nonsense. Simply use small plastic wire nuts. Pack them with grease, twist the wires together, screw the nut onto the wires. The grease keeps water out and prevents oxidation. If you ever have to change a light during a trip, it's much easier to unscrew the wire nut, twist the new wire onto the old harness, and replace the wire nut.

Another helpful video, Leon. Thanks. Question for ya... From what you know about Battery Tenders, is there really a need to remove the battery and bring it inside to put on the battery maintainer?. I've read where people leave their batteries in their boat and hook up the BT to it all winter. My boat sits on a lift. Two very heavy batteries (and a bad back!) so I'd much prefer to leave them in the boat. My only concern with doing this is whether there would be adequate ventilation with the storage cover on to prevent batteries from overheating. My 222XE batteries are under a seat cushion, so I can leave that open, but the big issue is the boat being "sealed" by the storage cover. I have the BT 800 model which is weather proof (so no worries there) and only puts out 800 milliamps. Would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks!
@CaptainLeonsBoatingandMore2 ай бұрын
I mean you mentioned my concerns with this, ventilation. Batteries that are charging need to vent. If you feel that's not an issue, and the boat will stay dry, then perhaps you can keep the batteries in the boat. Another option is to fully charge them and then let them sit all winter as they are. You can then top them off in the Spring. I'm assuming there are no gas fumes around either...lol.
