After changing out the OEM impeller housing twice due to swelling, I finally bit the bullet and installed the Solas stainless steel impeller housing. Hopefully I won't have to do this again.
Video includes servicing the cone bearing and intake screen.

Hello Capt. Leon, I replaced the wearing with the solas and OEM impeller. You mentioned at the end that it took a little while for some noises to clear up. How long did that take? I just did that job earlier today and I turned it on and it's definitely not smooth I torqued everything down so I can't imagine what it could be but it definitely sounds like some rub is taking place somewhere. Any thoughts? It's just this heartening after doing all this work not what I thought it would sound like. Thanks again.

Captain Leon out of topic on your post, not know how to directly email you. I subscribe to your channel and reality appreciate your help through your videos. I have same model 2013 SX190, recently I’ve seen random, intermittent, not consistent oil leak on the bilge, I did tape a paper towel to find out where it’s coming from, initially thoughts could be from bolts, I also read someone post that could be on the oil cooler right where oil filter attached. I have telescopic video camera but still can’t pinpoint leak. Just want to know if you’ve seen same, or is it something I should be worried about, oil leak does not impact the oil I see on dip stick so far, but will keep an eye on this. Appreciate your help.

@CaptainLeonsBoatingandMore 7 ай бұрын
Hey Edgar, I have not experienced this. The only thing you could do is keep wiping everywhere with a paper towel to see if you can find where it's coming from. Any chance it's weeping from the bottom of the oil filter? @CaptainLeonsBoatingandMore
@CaptainLeonsBoatingandMore Жыл бұрын
Thanks Coda, the swelling seems to get worse when sitting dry for a few days in-between outings. Returning from a day out, it seemed less severe. How are you determining that antifreeze can play a factor?
@codacoda565
@codacoda565 Жыл бұрын
Certain types of antifreeze will attack certain Metals in a Tri Val a n c e state a great example if you put regular green antifreeze in a Toyota it will start to disintegrate the aluminum copper and other metal you have to use the pink toyota antifreeze , it is a chemical reaction it does take a little while for this to happen but any contact I would say just to make sure you using correct antifreeze from the Yamaha boat maker I also notice you said you use in saltwater even after you flush engine salt also has a chemical and electrical reaction so if you spray down jet drive assembly inside and out with a corrosion inhibitor I think they call it yamashield

oem is the best BUT there is a cheaper alterative and in certain condition's may be advisable . the banging on the water hose comes from metal on metal with the stainless setup something will have to give eventually . My suggestion is the plastic insert (wear ring ) its easy to install and will only wear the ring not the expensive impeller . also IF anything aka rocks .shells.ect goes in it your chances of a motor lock up and serious damage are a lot less .. hope my suggestion helps someone on a budget.
@CaptainLeonsBoatingandMore
@CaptainLeonsBoatingandMore 5 ай бұрын
All good points, I hear ya. But the banging on the garden hose was mostly caused from the swell points on the OEM due to corrosion between the aluminum and stainless layers. Now that its all stainless its quiet, but you're right, no room for error.

The wear is due to the tourqe on the impeller when there's a lack of water. Aka cavitation or reving the engine on a hose.
@CaptainLeonsBoatingandMore
@CaptainLeonsBoatingandMore 9 ай бұрын
Cavitation is due to vapor bubbles when water is being expelled past an impeller or propeller at high speed, this does not take place while reving the engine on the hose. There can be wear from play in the shaft while the impeller is spinning out of the water, but the swelling of the housing in spots due to dissimilar metals is a known issue.
