Yamaha Boat Quality Control and Yamaha 222 FSH and 222 SE review

We have been waiting for our 222 FSH SPT since last August and now understand a stop sale is in place due to Steering cable issues. Dealer has parts required to fix the issue but nervous as to what will go wrong with the boat once we receive. Have a 2018 FSH with a delaminated connext screen which has been on order since the end of Feb. I must be a glutton for punishment

I so hope that Yamaha Motors actually has someone that watches these videos and reads forums and FB pages. We love our 2019 SX195, I was planning on upgrading next season. But until I can see a slowdown in recalls and improvement in quality, I think we will wait.

Split cabinets allow them to fully open whereas one door would probably contact the seat. Good review. Really gives me things to think about. Is there another jet/fish option for a similar price?

Gabe, I was referring to the split in the compartments attached to the back of the cabinet doors, watch again and you will see. Regarding Yamahas, they are great boats, I own mine 10 years now. Just hope they improve on some of the aesthetics a bit.

The Shorlandr winch spring failed first outing on my 2023. I took my boat in for steering recall, and Yamaha dealer could not fix the winch. Now I am waiting for a new winch. Junk trailers. I did swap out the roller. The yellow POS is no good.

This is different than what Yamaha is putting out now..Keep in mind these boats are well under 100k fully equipped and Yamaha dealerships are all over the place for maintenance. Of course it’s not going to stack up to lots of center console’s on the market at double the price. They are good boats for what they are and the 222 FSH is under 70k fully equipped. The 2023-24’ FSH sport e are a big improvement from this

I hear ya Matt. Everything you say is true, for what you pay compared to what you get, it's not a bad deal. Most of the imperfections however are not costly to improve upon, they just need to put a little more love into their work on the assembly line.

This is why there is the Dealership Model in the USA as the Dealer would send this product back as defective. Always go to Scarab if there's a problem.

I have a 2021 195 Sport FSH, waited a year to get it from Barney's of St Pete, which is a terrible store! My boat had many of these same issues with loose screws, uneven fixtures, and many other QA issues as well. My concern is, if the obvious stuff is poor quality what is it like deep inside where you can't see or inspect. To this day I take on several gallons of water after a day on the water and cannot figure out how it's coming in? Another issue is we all add these pricey GPS electronics and yet Yamaha Jet boats DO NOT have NMEA connection capability for engine data, WTFO?!? NOT even engine temp which in NOT part of the Connex system either?!? However, bang for the buck, their hard to beat for the "average" boater. I have attended most of the big boat shows in Florida for many years and the last 3 years Yamaha Jet Boats are rarely represented anymore, guess their selling regardless of QA/QC and marketing issues.

All good points DCC. Most of the fit and finish issues can be rectified over time by either the dealer or owner. It's generally not major. Regarding the water intrusion, try filing up the bilge and other boat compartments with water while on the trailer. You may see water leaking out onto your driveway which will identify how it's getting in. Just an idea. You're right however, bang for the buck they are pretty darn good. Thanks for watching!

Just got my 2023 222XD 90,000 with tax and the boat is thrashed gel coat needs fixed in 5 different areas Steering wheel emblem dented Wave gate rubber torn I need it fixed or I’m returning it haven’t even used the boat yet My 3rd Yamaha boat last 2 were perfect

My 2007 AR230 is great quality and has held up well even the upholstery is still in good shape not bad for a 20 year old boat. It's a shame they have dropped in quality

Is Yamaha's quality control slipping? No. It's mediocre like it's always been since the Exciter boats of 30 years ago. If anything, QC has probably improved. My '97 Exciter has had all kinds of fiberglass defects, including voids that had to be ground out and filled. My '99 Exciter has a re-designed engine hatch that is thin enough to crack when you step on the walkway. Stick your hand into any opening at your peril because there are sharp shards of fiberglass everywhere. I tell people that I bought my Yamaha boat as a kit!
