Baiting is the stupidest term ever, call it feeding, every hunter tries to hunt over where deer feed. Whether its natural, big money hunters putting in high dollar food plots or feeders that we heavily use in texas. Baiting is hot button word. So fucking dumb...

The main reason baiting was banned has already been proven to be garbage. My issue with baiting is that it's a marketed gimmick revenue for Hunters that don't really know how to Hunt. Dozens of Brands with SUPER Buck Attraction 😂 Now States are banning trail cameras. I support that!! I don't have the money to Hunt 5 states and put a 150 cell Cameras out across the whole mid west. In Wisconsin any personal property left on public south of Highway 64 is considered abandoned.. free camera's, tree stands climbing sticks, sd cards. Public land trail camera's is poaching!! You're using cameras to hunt multiple States worth of prime habitat and also as tools of intimidation or discouragement to other public hunters. If you tell me in a public lot you got me on camera in an area you're Hunting. I'll tell you you got a picture of me in an area I'm Hunting, and if I see a camera, or a stand Where I'm hunting without a Butt in it, that will be mine too, because the Wisconsin DNR says it's abandoned. Don't like it, me either, but I don't make the rules. Why can people not hunt over bait, but farmers get free crop damage tags to hunt over crops in August? And Tax breaks for agricultural land?

The " it's not good for the digestive track" is a half truth. If deer consume it regularly they're fine, if they are starving and (obviously not used to corn or any food as they're starving) all the sudden consume a lot of it, it can lead to a condition called acidosis

Where I live baiting is illegal yet all the local farm stores sell feeders, “deer corn“, various kinds of attractants. Everything is labeled advising people that it’s illegal but they sell a ton of it and it seems pretty clear that there’s a lot of illegal baiting going on, yet not a lot of consequences for it. Banning it won’t stop people doing it. So what’s the question, really?
@Outdoord
@Outdoord 2 күн бұрын
Yea, good point that never really made sense that things are illegal but can still be sold. I know some states that it's illegal in allow up until the start of the season. Meaning it all has to be gone before opening day that way people can still use it to take inventory.

Very good points. Food is food. Everyone's situation is different. I think that's one of the biggest misunderstandings about it. I think just about everyone uses it in some way even if it's just to take inventory. Whether they want to admit it or not now that's a different story lol. I think too having the right spot to hunt all the right food sources changes everything and everyone doesn't have that.

It really comes down to your specific property and what food is available for the deer. I have noticed depending on crop rotation on the farms around me, that can affect if the bucks will show up. Most of the time they do but if they have better choices available that's where they will be. Yes, the right spot is also very important for the bucks to feel comfortable to hit it consistent and in daylight hours.

Bait is unethical.
@Outdoord
@Outdoord 15 күн бұрын
It's definitely a debatable topic. It's legal in most states and can be a very effective way to hunt and harvest deer. Nothing is guaranteed though, and it is also a lot of work if you do it consistently. It's also not cheap. Effort, time and preparation all go into earning one opportunity. It's not an easy way out in my opinion because I have done it enough to know. A lot of things still have to go right. I think most people can agree that its not much different then hunting a natural food source/corn field or bean field. However, not everyone has access to farms that set up that way. I can respect both sides of it, but we all have the choice to make the decision on how we want to hunt. That choice should always be available at the hunters discretion. Whatever makes the hunter happy i'm all in for. How we individually pursue and hunt deer and what challenges/goals we set for ourselves should always be an individual choice not what someone else thinks. Always hunt within the law of course!
@markf5735
@markf5735 11 күн бұрын
I disagree, but respect your opinion. We can't bait in NH, I hunt for meat and will kill a doe if the opportunity presents itself. The last thing I want to do is kill a doe with a 6 month old fawn because the fawn will not survive. If I could hunt over bait I'd have the time to wait and see if a fawn showed up, or to see which doe the fawn belonged to. As Outdoord stated " That choice should always be available at the hunters discretion."

I don’t do well with heights lol I really only leave the ground to hunt deer, and I feel most comfortable in my ladder stands. Most are factory height around 15-16 feet because of limited back cover but with better placement will definitely be leaving a section out. When I was young and broke I used to make ladder stands out of 2x4’s and they were only 10 feet high and I killed a pile of deer out of them 👍🏻

I have some high, some low. It depends on where it is and what is around it. I have had some that if fully extended you will see less than by placing it lower. I am finding over the years though that I have shot as many from lower stands as the high ones. The main thing I have found is by attaching camo burlap to the shooting rail helps cover your movement. It stays on the stand all year and the deer don't pay any attention to it as they see it all the time.

Yep i typically hunt with my platform between 10 to 12 feet. High enough to help see up the steep sides of the ridges. The best time to scout for stand placement is December and January. Why ? Because you're looking at fresh sign like rubs, scrapes and beds of the bucks. Most people wait until September and start looking when its thick and nasty out there. I've shot a bunch of bucks from scouting in late winter and hanging stands in good places. You can also hunt bt doe bedding areas during the rut. I've hunted this way on public and private for years and it works great!!

I have 5 ladder stands like your Muddy and Big Game 1.5. Both same stand. I never put in the last rung. It's way to high and I'm above the tree canopy. I even have a couple of stands set up that are only like 9 ft high and see tons of deer and they walk right by me. It's location location location!! I want a flatter trajectory for a better hit and less chance of one lunging shots. I shoot most bucks under 20 yards and they don't have a clue I'm there. You have to have a good entry/exit path to the stands with good back cover. Good video to help guys see you don't need to be 30 feet up to kill deer. I've killed many bucks from a stool on the ground with a bow.
@Outdoord
@Outdoord 23 күн бұрын
That's awesome and thanks for sharing all that. I hunt the exact same way and it's worked for me as well. That shot angle is really important. I like to be a little bit higher on flatter ground. I prefer to set my stand low though. Using ridges has always helped keep me plenty high even though my stand is low. I think the deer have a lot to look at in them situations and you don't stand out as much. I also haven't had an issue with being winded if your wind is good and you can sit still, nothing else really matters.

When you put a camera on your bait pile I assume it's a cell one and was just wondering what setting you put your trigger delay on. Mine is on 30 seconds
@Outdoord
@Outdoord 24 күн бұрын
I usually put out just a regular trail camera in the beginning. I will transition to cellular as the season gets closer and if I have a target buck. My Delays change depending on activity. The first couple of weeks I will have less of a delay on. I have had up to a 5 minute delay but you can also miss deer that way. It's kind of a toss up to avoid squirrels and raccoons birds etc. If I feel like I have a shooter than I will put on less of a delay and try to pin point him. Another tip too you can put some more cameras out not directly on the bait on the main trails coming to and from and usually catch the bucks that way without draining your trails camera batteries on the bait pile. When I really want to make sure I dont miss anything 30 second to a minute is good you just get a lot of other stuff too lol. Especially when you have had the bait out for at least a few weeks. It also usually takes the bucks a few weeks to find the corn and then to hit it more consistently takes some time as well. I hope that helped LMK!

Most people thst aren't morning people and hate getting up hours before the roosters crow are the ones who say evenings are better than mornings and hunt way more evenings than they've hunted mornings so therefore they have no true comparison and so they make themselves believe evening is better than mornings and I can say after 30+ years in deer woods this comparison is situational and depends on where you are hunting and how the deer move etc. I've seen more bucks in the mornings than I've seen in the evenings and most all bucks on my wall came from mornings ! I've shot a lot of bucks, I'd have to say it's 50/50 on morning or evening. I think alot of things control the movement of bucks. Like you said weather is a major thing but I think it's also moon phase and the area you hunt 🤔 I hunt the top of a huge hill that's wide and long. I usually don't see bucks coming back up to bed until 8:30 or so in the morning but when I hunt river bottom I see bucks all day. Here in Oklahoma it's still really warm in October so not much movement from mature bucks but around Halloween and cool fronts I start seeing mature bucks sneaking around in the morning and maybe before dark but it's still warm. From Halloween thru Thanksgiving you can see a buck anytime of the day and I actually see a bunch of bucks in the middle of the day. I guess the best time to hunt is as often as you can... lol. @Outdoord I've shot big bucks at sunrise, midday and sunset... lol I really like hunting late December and early January when it freezing and below. The deer are really active and I have shot bucks January 13th and 15th, last day of season. Both were following yearling does looking for love ❤️. So I don't think there's really a perfect time to hunt because you just never know when those crazy deer will move. I shot one of my biggest at 3 pm on a 68 degree day with high humidity. I was sweating just sitting there. The day before I watched 4 different bucks chasing does around in a small bottom. I knew I couldn't go in and hang a stand so I didn't even go in until 11 and sat on the ground in the middle of some cedar trees. At 2pm I could see legs on the Ridge above me and hear trees being rubbed. It took an hour for that buck to SLOWLY start working to the bottom. He stood on the edge for 20 minutes and slowly came down into the creek bottom. As he cleared some small trees I drew and he saw me and turned towards as I released the arrow. I was like crap ! He didn't go 25 yards . So you just never know when or where a buck will show up. All you can do is be out there sweating or freezing. Nice video.
