Very nice video with great examples of what can be done with a nice lens like this one when one has talent like yours. Good job ! 👍🏼 I'm considering switching to ML and I'm strongly looking at this S5. Do you have any video detailing how this camera deals with manual lenses ? I'm sure your feedback would be of great interest.

Hey thanks so much for watching and for your kind words. I am so glad you enjoyed this video! While I don't have a video specifically featuring the S5 with manual lenses, however I DO have a very relevant video I made prior to the release of the S5 with the original S1. Here is s link to that video if you want to check it out kzbin.info/www/bejne/raTcl6yroKt2h5I Basically the same mount and sensor, but I much prefer the S5 body over the S1 which is larger, heavier and I don’t like the tilting screen on the S1 (all personal preferences). I have a bunch of image examples in that video with a handful of manual lenses, which may be helpful for your research. I can tell you I love the S5, it’s an incredible camera and I would recommend it with high praise. Of course I would love to upgrade to the S5ii with the new PDAF, but it’s just not necessary for me, as the S5 is still such a fantastic quality camera and I shoot mainly with manual lenses anyway. I hope all this is helpful, and I hope you find the right fit for your shooting style. Thanks again for watching!

Picked one up used / mint for $250 YAY! Stopped along the river on the way home from the camera shop and captured a few beautiful moments. Fall colors and light just beginning here so will enjoy this on my S5. They really are a match made in heaven! I know 50mm is the "normal" perspective, but I like being just a bit to the left.

Hi Lauren, I enjoyed your video and agree with much of what you say about the lenses you’ve chosen. Just out of curiosity, with the increases in the quality of modern “zoom” lenses why do you not use any. I travel every day, with a kit lens, or high quality equivalent t, and an overlapping zoom cutting down my carry to only 2 lenses. Ok, I often throw either the 45mm 1.8, or 75mm 1.8 into the kit as well but find the other two cover most of my needs. Just thinking out loud?😢 Just
@graphiknation Жыл бұрын
hey Ben thanks for watching and for the great question. It’s a true, I don’t have any of the newer micro 4/3 zoom lenses. I guess there are a couple of reasons for that. I have a perfectly sufficient arsenal of lenses and focal lengths that meet my needs, most of which are either lighter, faster or both. I also really enjoy vintage primes and the super small compactness of CCTV lenses. I guess I like weird things? By design, modern zoom lenses don’t appeal that much to me. As it stands currently, there are 2 categories of choice. There is small and compact which is easy to carry but the aperture sucks or you can choose something with a brighter aperture. The problem for me is they just get bigger, heavier and more expensive, all reasons I left Nikon over 10 years ago for Micro 4/3 in the first place. A good example is the LUMIX 10-25mm f/1.7. Those specs sound amazing but that lens is a boat anchor. I would much rather take my $1500 and pick up 2, 3 or 4 much smaller and lighter primes that cover a wider range that I can carry more easily and are way more enjoyable to use. That may be a dramatic example but I guess I just don’t feel like I am missing anything. One might point out there is not a telephoto lens included in this list, but that is only because it’s limited to 5. I also have the LUMIX/Leica 50-200mm f/2.8-4 for longer reach, but it’s not included in this video, as it’s #6 on my list. Those are my reasons, all personal and subjective of course. What are some of your favorites?

Nice one! Are those lenses for a (CCTV) 2/3" sensors or for 1/2 inch sensors? I know that 1 inch sensor CCTV lenses get pretty spendy, and I doubt if 1/3" lenses would work on any camera, other than a Pentax Q. I recently picked up a Nikon1. I'm going down the C~mount lens rabbit hole right now. I picked up a Toyo Optics CCTV 12.5-75mm f1.8 BRAND NEW for chump change. I was stoked to get such a lovely lens, for so cheap... but I get vignetting (on the Nikon1). I'm a bit shocked by that. Gorgeous Japanese lens, though.
@graphiknation Жыл бұрын
hi thanks so much for watching! I don't have a Nikon 1, but the thing that stands out the most to me about the lens you mentioned is the focal length of 12.5 - 75mm. On my micro 4/3 cameras, the widest usable focal length for a CCTV lens is 25mm and as you can see in the video, that does produce some vignetting in the corners. I'm curious, does the vignetting diminish as you zoom in tighter or does it remain constant throughout the focal range? I would suggest sticking with the 25mm, 35mm or 50mm lenses covered in this video and depending on the crop factor of your camera, you may see some vignetting. I hope this helps and I hope you have a Pentax Q you can try that lens on! I myself do have a Q-S1 and they are lots of fun to use and that lens sounds like a good fit for it.

hi thanks for watching. I don't shoot Canon, but I looked up the lens mount and found an adapter for CCTV to EF. please note in the description for this adapter it says you can only achieve macro focusing with this lens mount, meaning you would only be able to take extreme close-focus images (this is due to the flange distance). that may or may not be of interest to you to pursue, but here is that link if you want to look into it: amzn.to/3DsmnXW

The Panasonic Leica is great but you are right that it is a bit pricey. On a budget, the DJI 15mm 1.7 is essentially the same lens. And second-hand, they do show up for 200-300.That and the Panasonic Lumix G 25mm f/1.7 are my top lenses. Because they are versatile, and great value for money considering the quality.

How would you rate vintage lenses to modern lenses?
@graphiknation Жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for watching! I enjoy both for different reasons. Modern lenses are certainly sharper and cleaner and offer features like stabilization and autofocus. I use modern lenses when these things are top priority. Vintage lenses on the other hand can give you lots of charm, character and texture and can produce very unique and imperfect effects that are largely considered flaws by modern standards. Shooting with vintage or manual focus lenses forces you to slow down and be more thoughtful and precise with your framing and focusing and I find that process more fun, engaging and creatively rewarding. I also like the smaller, more compact and lightweight size of my vintage lenses, so that makes a difference in how much I can (or am willing to) carry around. If I need to nail focus and take a “perfect” picture, I’ll use a newer lens. But if I’m just having fun and enjoying the process, that’s when I tend to prefer my vintage and specialty lenses. It is often said that a technically perfect photo doesn’t necessarily make the most beautiful or artistic photo and I agree with that sentiment.

Funny, I have an S5 but I just bought a 2nd hand S1 mainly for this tilting screen and the better viewfinder. I also like manual focus lenses and plan to use old Canon EF L glass because they still have a 'real' focus ring for good control, not this focus by wire mistake.

Hey, thanks for watching! I do miss that gorgeous EVF on the S1, that is for sure. If I were solely FF, pairing these 2 cameras is a totally awesome setup, getting the benefits of both (I personally tend to lean more M4/3 for about 80% of my shooting). I did speak to someone at LUMIX though who told me they had no choice with the S5 in regards to the EVF, due to it's smaller more compact size and the distribution of heat with all that is packed into the camera (I think this is also the reason for the mini HDMI, but I may be wrong about that). Anyway, they are 2 very similar cameras with unique differences that meet very specific needs. I really appreciate that we have the option to choose :) I hope you enjoy them both, happy shooting!

What’s your favorite Camera ? Are you switching to full frame ?
@graphiknation2 жыл бұрын
hey, thanks for watching! Currently my favorite camera is my Lumix G95, although I also recently picked up a used Lumix LX100 II that has been a ton of fun in a super small package. I do also love my Lumix S5 FF camera, but the larger weight is harder for me to get used to, so I most often reach for something smaller and lighter. The G95 is a great compromise for me because it has the larger 20mp sensor and it's one of the few Lumix M4/3 cameras that has live composite, which is a feature I absolutely fell in love with on the S5. What is your favorite camera?

@graphiknation2 жыл бұрын
Hey Sam, thanks so much for watching! I don't have either of those lenses personally and I have never used a Minolta AF lens. The big question here for me is do you care about the autofocus at all or are you looking to use these lenses on the S5 in manual focus only? I did come across an adapter for Minolta AF to Leica L mount here: amzn.to/3x7d39f but it is a passive adapter so you would not get any electronic communications to the autofocus system in the lens. If that is fine with you, I would say why not give that a try before spending more money on a different lens with similar specs? It seems like a great low cost option to get you shooting right away if cost is a concern. You can always add to your collection later without having to make a rushed decision on what to invest in. Not sure if this is the answer your are seeking, but I hope it helps. Happy shooting!

Nice video 🤩 btw, Can you recommend any Voitlander to the S5?
@graphiknation2 жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks so much for watching! I have a few vintage voigtlander lenses for M-mount that I have been using on my S5 with an adapter. My favorite is the incredibly small and light 15mm aspherical wide angle, which is featured in a video I made on vintage lenses on the S1 if you want to check that out, here is the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/raTcl6yroKt2h5I It’s hard to recommend any lenses I don’t personally have experience with, especially not knowing what kind of images you want to take. I personally own 3 vintage voigtlander M-mount lenses and they are all impressively sharp and produce beautiful images. I have the 15mm f/4.5, a 25mm f/4 and a 75mm f/2.5 and they are all pretty small and compact and I use them with an inexpensive M-to-L adapter. The newer voigtlanders from what I have seen look a bit heavy and chunky, and that doesn’t appeal to me as much since I like to carry smaller/lighter gear. I would decide what focal length and aperture you are most interested in and do some research to find the right fit for your needs. There are so many great options available, and we all have different criteria for how we select what gear is the most suited to our own needs and preferences. All that said, here’s a link to one that looks pretty interesting to me, bear in mid I don’t have this lens and have never used it. It’s a Voigtlander Nokton 40mm f/1.4 amzn.to/3z1Okn7. This lens at 40mm is a little more practical focal length for everyday use than the extreme 15mm wide angle that I have, which is best suited to landscape and architecture. This one would be more ideal for travel/street photography, low light and even some portraits, although I generally prefer more like 75mm or higher for portraits myself. You will also need an adapter to mount this lens to the S5, here is one that is only about $15: M-to-L mount adapter amzn.to/3RR6dNW It’s important to note, M-mount lenses are manual focus only and they need an adapter for your camera mount. They do make a few native L-mount lenses, here is a link to those on the Voigtlander website: www.voigtlaender.de/lenses/sl/?lang=en

Right now, I am in the same situation with the 42.5mm f1.2 and f1.7. About to buy the f1.7 again because the f1.2 is too big and intimidatiing for subjects on the street. @graphiknation2 жыл бұрын
hey thanks for watching! you can use any autofocus lenses that you can mount to your camera, but in general it's best to choose Olympus lenses if you want to get the absolute best performance from your autofocus system. The idea is that the brand is making the lens and body technologies to work in concert together. You can totally use any MFT lenses, and adapt all kinds of other lenses with adapters, but you may experience slower focusing across brands. You will also not be able to use some functions, like manual aperture or lens stabilization (Panasonic has some lenses that have stabilization in the lens, so when paired with a Panasonic camera that also has stabilization, you can get double stabilization). I don't really worry about this stuff too much, but there are a lot of people who complain about it. lol

Hello Love your review. Thank you. I saw you purchased the s5 I am using omd m1 for years and is looking for full frame to shoot with vantage lens. What would be your advise s1 or s5 ? Thank you !
@graphiknation2 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks so much for watching! As much as I loved the S1, it was a bit too large and cumbersome for me personally, and as I mentioned in the video, the titling screen was a deal breaker for me. Both the S1 and S5 have the same sensor, so image quality is exactly the same (at least for photography). I would say if you care about the articulating screen, the S5 is a better option. If you don't care about that, and the extra weight in hand doesn't bother you, but you really like shooting thru the EVF (rather than the LCD screen), the resolution and quality of the EVF on the S1 is superb. It's really going to come down to your own personal preferences. I love the S5 and I am 100% happy with that beautiful camera. Best of luck, and happy shooting! Here are my Amazon Affiliate links to both cameras if you want to compare models and read reviews: LUMIX S5: amzn.to/3xXpZiY LUMIX S1: amzn.to/3xwxADE One thing you might consider is which lens you might want to get. You can of course buy either camera “body only” but it’s a better deal to get with the kit lens. The 20-60mm 3.5-5.6 that comes with the S5 is light weight and compact, but the 24-104mm f/4 that comes with the S1 is a much better lens in my opinion. It’s of course heavier and larger as well, but the constant aperture, extended reach, stabilization and macro abilities of the 24-105 is far better than the 20-60.

hey thanks so much for watching! They are both fantastic cameras! I personally chose the S5 for it's smaller/lighter size and the articulating screen was a deal breaker for me with the S1. That EVF though is pretty spectacular. I can't say I really miss it on the S5 because the EVF is sufficient, and I love the handling of that camera so much it doesn't ever occur to me when I am out shooting that I don't have the higher quality EVF of the S1. I just remember it as very impressive and one of my favorite features of the S1. I don't think you can go wrong either way, both are spectacular and a joy to use.

hey thanks so much for watching, and for your reco on the sigma! I have not used the 56mm f/1.4 before, but I do have some sigma L-mount lenses for my S5 that I really like, so I am sure that one is great as well. I like the 35-100 too, but I tend to favor my Leica 50-200 f/2.8-4 for my longer zoom shots. I didn't yet have the Leica at the time of making this video, but I seriously considered adding it as a 6th or bonus lens, it just didn't make the final cut. It's so hard to choose only 5 from such a wide range of lenses available, I would try them all if I could. Enjoy the Sigma, and you never know, you might come across a great deal on the 75mm one day and give it a try. If not though, it sounds like you are all set. :)
