LUMIX S1: Should you upgrade from M4/3? A Street Photographer’s Perspective

I spent about 3 months shooting almost exclusively with the S1. Is it too big and too heavy? Is the extra resolution and high ISO performance worth the extra weight? Here's a look at how I managed to adapt to the S1 for travel & street photography.

As for the screen, I personally think they left it out because at the time of launch, no other FF mirrorless camera had such a feature and they wanted to appeal to "professionals". I am not sure why so many photographers bash this kind of screen, it's absolutely the most useful and flexible for so many different shooting scenarios. But I digress. Anyway, I'm VERY excited about the S5! An articulating screen AND it's much lighter and smaller. Definitely checks all the boxes. Can't wait for mine to arrive :)

Great review with excellent shots and I like how you explain your work and put things in context. So, liked and subbed. I have both, S1 and G9, but tbh I have not used the G9 much for fotos since the S1 arrived. Sensor size matters, especially at low light. But what I much like is that the G9 received a massive video update, so it now does 10bit 422 internally which makes it a very powerful hybrid camera.

@@lukmie2769 I hear you, and that is certainly a valid and widely shared opinion of the AF system. I guess it depends what your shooting? I tend to shoot AF-S or manual focus most of the time, so the AF wasn't a big point of contention for me. Perhaps if I shot more fast action and sports it would be, but I rarely switch into AF-C so I never had a problem. Thanks again for your thoughts! :)

hey thanks so much for watching! They are both fantastic cameras! I personally chose the S5 for it's smaller/lighter size and the articulating screen was a deal breaker for me with the S1. That EVF though is pretty spectacular. I can't say I really miss it on the S5 because the EVF is sufficient, and I love the handling of that camera so much it doesn't ever occur to me when I am out shooting that I don't have the higher quality EVF of the S1. I just remember it as very impressive and one of my favorite features of the S1. I don't think you can go wrong either way, both are spectacular and a joy to use.

For a few years I became obsessed with camera weight. After carrying around a Canon 5D3 with a heavy prime or zoom lens for years, I was keen to reduce weight. So I wouldn't even look at any camera/lens ensemble that weighed over about 800g. That meant shooting APS-C Fuji and Sony cameras. A few months ago my friendly camera store took in a used Lumix S1 and lent it to me to try without charge. At first it felt like a huge lead weight in my hands but I decided to persevere. After a week I was hooked and there was no way I was giving that camera back. This is the most under-rated camera on the market in my opinion. It has many faults its true; poor autofocus compared to other cameras in its class, plus a limited choice of huge, heavy, expensive lenses. BUT - as you mention in your video, it feels so good in the hands. Everything fits to make it a wonderful camera to hold and use. The dynamic range is excellent. I have never owned a digital FF camera that holds highlights as well as this. Leica and Voigtlander M mount lenses perform better with this camera (with an adapter) than they do on the Sony A7's, especially with wider lenses (less vignetting). Two things you didn't mention/emphasise enough: The image stabilisation system has to be the best in any FF camera system (albeit I haven't tested them all of course). I can hand hold this camera at 1/8th second and get very sharp results if I am well braced. Second: That shutter - its character and its sound are like a lullaby to a baby for me. Sometimes I switch the camera on and make an exposure with the lens cap on, just to appreciate the engineering that must have gone into it. Panasonic put a lot into this camera. I hope they continue with the system. Its weight is a burden for sure, but for me there is no question that it is worth carrying.

Hey, thanks so much for watching! I agree with all the points you have made, and the S1 is no doubt an exceptional camera! I never doubted it would be, as I have been a die-hard LUMIX enthusiast for years, but I could never have predicted that I would so quickly forgive it’s large size and weight. As a M4/3 shooter, I highly value portability and the S1 is quite a jump for me on that count alone. I personally don’t prioritize autofocus as much as some other features, so shooting with my smaller vintage Leica lenses made using the S1 a much more pleasurable experience and I found no compromise at all in terms of image quality. I also have to say the dynamic range is the most impressive I have ever seen, but I also was not surprised by this at all, as I have always loved the colors and image quality of my LUMIX cameras, it met all my expectations. One thing to point out on stabilization, which yes it is fantastic on the S1, but I guess it didn’t strike me as unique since I can easily shoot handheld on most of my M4/3 cameras at shutters of 1/4, 1/6, 1/8, etc and have done so for years now. I don’t own any other modern FF cameras to compare it to, so my benchmark for comparison is my M4/3 system. The S1 for me was like my favorite LUMIX camera, with super powers LOL. I am not sure what your relationship is to your local camera store, but if they will lend you gear for experimentation, I would highly recommend asking to test drive the LUMIX G9 (for which the S1 was modeled after). If you can also get your hands on the Leica 12-60 f/2.8-4.0 and the Leica 50-200 f2.8-4.0 and either 42.5 lens (the f1.2 or f/1.7), you will likely never go back to a larger system. It’s just incredible the quality you can get in such a smaller and lighter system, and LUMIX cameras are extremely user friendly and hard to beat on ergonomics (IMO, of course). I am so glad you found your way to the S1, and I am sure you will enjoy it for years to come. It was a sad day indeed when I had to send it back to LUMIX, but it gave me such a good experience shooting with the larger body, that it helped me figure out which M/4/3 cameras to focus on in the future. If they make a smaller body S series camera, I’m sure I will be the first in line to buy it. The lenses are insanely large and expensive, but I have never used a kit lens that was as impressive as the one that comes with the S1, so right out of the box, you are at a much better starting point than most. And if you have vintage or other lenses you can adapt, that’s a good place to start building from. Thanks again for watching, and for your thoughtful in-depth remarks.

Thanks for the vidéo. I Made the step few weeks ago to sell one of the best DSLR (Nikon D850) to switch to this hybrid full frame. The purpose for me was to mount my M Lenses and travel Light, use the focus assistance (peaking and zoom) and the wonderfull EVF. It’s a pleasure to use but I think the best for M Lenses is M bodies in terms of global expérience. The kit lens is impressive and moreover it does kind of macro. The 50mm S Pro 1.4 is the best AF 50mm I ever used.

Hey, thanks for your comment, and for watching! I too agree, native lenses are best suited to their respective native mount cameras, and the lenses for the S1 are very impressive. I just like having an option to downsize for travel and street, and still be able to use the S1 with all of it’s powerful capabilities and modern tech. The 50mm S Pro lens for me was a hard sell, due to it’s mammoth size and weight. I really struggled every time I took it out to shoot, and as high quality as it may be, I didn’t enjoy it as much as the smaller lenses. I am of course a huge fan and supporter of the micro four thirds system, so I have that inherent bias regarding size and portability. :)

I really hate "fully articuladed screens"... I prefer this solution.

I recently upgraded from M4/3 to a Sony A7ii. As a sometimes, street photographer who shoots with vintage/classic lenses I find the full frame captures more of the character of these old lenses because it's not cropping out 75% of the image circle where most of that character lives. I still like my micro 4/3s for their portability so I will keep them for the time being. If I were traveling, I might be tempted to take a small kit consisting of an M4/3 body and a handful of lenses but it would depend on where I was traveling to.

Hey, I use mostly Haoge + Beschoi brand passive adapters for my vintage lenses. What lenses are you trying to adapt? Sadly M4/3 are too small, but if you have other APS-C, FF or older film lenses, you should be able to find an adapter to use them on the S1.

Hey Thanks so much! That's a hard choice to make, indeed! Do you have lenses for either system? They are both excellent, which I am sure you know. The G series for video is hard to beat right now, since the lenses available are vast and plenty, and of course m4/3, while still not cheap, is more affordable than the FF. Either way, you can't really go wrong with anything from Panasonic for video. :)

@@graphiknation I do not have any native Panasonic or lumex's lenses what I do have is on the old nikon lenses for the FM35 millimeter DSLR and FI to and I have a single lens for my Canon 70 which is A28135R rendering lens so when I buy a when I'm thinking is as an G5 mouse when I buy RGH5 us when I buy that my main goal is 3 fold 1 on camer that will be useful on a gimbal and a glide Cam type of stabilizer and to low light and 3 it will be a camera that I can use to hike and keep on my motorcycle with me I bought the AGU X180 for reasons that were one it's an integrated lands and it covers a wide range and is actually a very good camera number 2 it all M also has dual XLR inputs and several modes on the inputs and it also does a variety of formats to include 4K full size the problem with the that particular 4K recording is is that it's 8 bit instead attend it however I can get around the 8 bit problem by using and at most ninja 5 external monitor with an H DMI cable because that monitor does record 4K and I42 to 10 bed is A4210V or 40010 dead either way it records 4K and 10 bit so I can use that as a work around in then marry the 2 together or I can just shoot with AGH5 us in 10 bit and then down reza but that's what I'm looking at I was just looking at the the a** 1 at you as showing us their and determining whether I really want to get that and use that to as a second camera but I think I'm going to stick with a with AGH5 us just because of its size in it's still close enough to the to the M AGU X180 that of a be extremely useful in what I'm trying to do and I apologize for any translation errors here I'm driving and talking into my phone

Funny, I have an S5 but I just bought a 2nd hand S1 mainly for this tilting screen and the better viewfinder. I also like manual focus lenses and plan to use old Canon EF L glass because they still have a 'real' focus ring for good control, not this focus by wire mistake.

Hey, thanks for watching! I do miss that gorgeous EVF on the S1, that is for sure. If I were solely FF, pairing these 2 cameras is a totally awesome setup, getting the benefits of both (I personally tend to lean more M4/3 for about 80% of my shooting). I did speak to someone at LUMIX though who told me they had no choice with the S5 in regards to the EVF, due to it's smaller more compact size and the distribution of heat with all that is packed into the camera (I think this is also the reason for the mini HDMI, but I may be wrong about that). Anyway, they are 2 very similar cameras with unique differences that meet very specific needs. I really appreciate that we have the option to choose :) I hope you enjoy them both, happy shooting!

LOL How long did you spend with it? I'm just curious because my initial impression was that it was way too large and too heavy, but I got used to it within about the first week or maybe 2? Anyway, I use really small M4/3 cameras most of the time, and having the S1 was a stark contrast to my normal set up, but I somehow adapted to the dramatic change in a short time. It even made me rethink my entire, years-long resistance to the larger G series camera bodies, and seriously consider getting a G9 or GH5. I can understand that perspective for sure, they are expensive. I am not fully up to speed on the entire landscape of full frame lenses across competing brands, but I expect they are on-par with the pricing of similar quality optics in that category. However, you can always use an L-mount adapter to pair other lenses with the S1! I really loved using some of my vintage lenses with the S1, and I got very good results. Hey thanks so much for watching! As much as I loved the S1, it was a bit too large and cumbersome for me personally, and as I mentioned in the video, the titling screen was a deal breaker for me. Both the S1 and S5 have the same sensor, so image quality is exactly the same (at least for photography). I would say if you care about the articulating screen, the S5 is a better option. If you don't care about that, and the extra weight in hand doesn't bother you, but you really like shooting thru the EVF (rather than the LCD screen), the resolution and quality of the EVF on the S1 is superb. It's really going to come down to your own personal preferences. I love the S5 and I am 100% happy with that beautiful camera. Best of luck, and happy shooting! You can of course buy either camera “body only” but it’s a better deal to get with the kit lens. It’s of course heavier and larger as well, but the constant aperture, extended reach, stabilization and macro abilities of the 24-105 is far better than the 20-60.

I found a great used GX9 with a oly 17 1.8 on eBay, great combo, like new and I use the touch screen shutter with discreet shooting from the hip, So happy with it for the street, not a flippy! But I did mount a little action cam on the hot the other day, worked well, just starting think about video myself. Keep up the great work, got my sub and support.

Hey, I’m using an older version of the Voigtlander 15mmm Heliar Aspherical Wide angle lens. The one I have usually sells on eBay around $400-$500-ish. Its super-small and lightweight, it's really sharp, and it creates gorgeous starbursts when you stop it down a bit. Hey Andreas, thanks so much for watching! I am in love with my LUMIX gear as well, so we share that passion. Although I don't own one (I opted for the lighter/smaller G85) the G9 is an amazing camera! The S5 is also outstanding, I ordered mine right away upon it's release and I freaking love it, and highly recommend it. They each serve different purposes for me, and there are many times when M4/3 is a better option. I love the smaller, lighter overall system. Having lenses that weigh next to nothing makes a big difference in how much I can carry around or travel with. I also have smaller M4/3 cameras I prefer over something as large as the G9, but the S5 could easily add up (in cost and weight) with the larger L-mount lenses. Of course, it may not be cost efficient to keep both, if you are looking to sell in order to upgrade to the S5. I guess I just love my M4/3 gear, and I have so many lenses and focal lengths that my options are endless. I also use passive, inexpensive adapters to share vintage lenses across both systems. This doubles your focal length on M/3, so you can carry 3 primes with both cameras and get 6 different focal lengths due to the crop factor. I use the S1 for wedding photography and I love the native lenses. However, I’d love to get some smaller MF lenses to mount on it. I’d love to see a video on your adapter and what lenses you are using.

Hey thanks so much for your comment! The native lenses are indeed superb, but do love the smaller prime options for those times when you just want to lighten your load. I am actually working on a video on this very subject, so hopefully I will have that completed & uploaded soon. :) In the meantime, I can tell you I mostly used M mount Leica & Voigtlander lenses (older/vintage versions), with an inexpensive adapter I picked up on Amazon. I also used my Minolta Rokkor-X, same inexpressive adapter via Amazon, which wasn't hard to find. I have a ton of Pentax lenses, but I wasn't able to find an adapter for Pentax-K to L. So, if you have any lenses from another system you might want to to try using, I would search for an L mount adapter for that particular lens mount, and see if there is something available. I paid around $20 I think for the adapters I found on Amazon, and they were Beschoi & Fotasy brands.

@@graphiknation Cool. Yeah, I'm interested in getting some Voigtlander M mount lenses. I'm not that versed in manual focus but it seems very easy on the S1. I use focus peaking even in AF and of course the EVF is so easy to see. I shoot weddings so only occasionally use MF (ring shots, etc.), but thought it would be nice for engagement shoots for a different look with these Voigtlanders and whatever else i might want to add. I shoot M43 and I might go full frame at some point but I'm not going to buy a full set again like I did with M43. I shoot weddings and I have a lot of gear. It's too much of a headache when I have a setup that does the job and it's a lot of money buying into a new setup. But I might buy a full frame camera maybe one or two lens for a look I want but not a full setup. There was a time when I was thinking of selling my M43 gear but DXO PhotoLab and DXO PureRaw with Deep Prime fixed the noise issue and Luminar I can use for extra bokeh when I need it.

Hey, thanks so much for watching! I agree with you, there is no reason to leave M4/3 for a larger system. Everything just gets larger, heavier and more expensive. Not nearly enough credit is given to the M4/3 system for all of it's wonderful advantages in size, weight, cost, and even features like DOF and low light have their advantages over larger sensors. It's important to note that when speaking on noise and ISO, we make sure to compare accurate equivalents considering the crop factor conversion which on M4/3 is x/÷ (4) or (so 1600 ISO on M4/3 = 6400 ISO on FF). If you're using wide aperture primes on M4/3 (1.2/1.4/1.8/2.0/2.8) it's my long held opinion that you are actually getting the best possible combination of specs for the best end results. No one ever talks about how deeper depth of field can be a benefit, which in most cases shooting wide open at 1.4 or 1.8, etc on FF gives such a shallow depth of field that you would need to stop down to at least 2.8 or even 4.0 to get enough of your subject in sharp enough focus to be considered a "good" image (especially in portraits, product or macro photography. On m4/3 you can keep that aperture wide open at 1.4 (or whatever) and get all the benefits of the maximum amount of light, get enough of your subject in sharp focus AND also achieve pleasing bokeh and background blur. M4/3 is still my go-to and (IMO) the most flexible system you can buy into. I love my S5, but I still walk out the door 80% of the time with a M4/3 camera in hand. Hi Pankaj, thanks so much for watching and your question regarding autofocus. I personally did not have any problems at all with the autofocus system. Bear in mind LUMIX cameras have been my primary system for almost 10 years now, so using the contrast-based AF was a seamless experience for me, and it worked perfectly and as expected. I should also point out that I don’t shoot a lot of sports or fast action, so I don’t prioritize the auto focus feature as much as some other features. I also prefer using my vintage primes on the S1 due to it’s large size and weight anyway, so auto focus just doesn’t matter that much to me. Hey Fred, thanks so much for watching and for your comment, which is a great point and I hear you. While I do take a lot of street photos that include people in the frame, I personally don't feel comfortable sharing those images of unknown strangers on such a public, global platform as KZbin. It's just my personal moral/ethical standard, regardless of how the law applies to photographing people in public spaces. As for the autofocus on the S1, I had no trouble with it at all, and it performs as well as or better than any other LUMIX camera that I have ever owned. In all honesty, I don't prioritize auto focus as high as some other features, and I tend to use a lot of vintage and manual focus lenses anyway, so it just isn't something I think about very often. In traditional street photography, I personally follow the Henry-Cartier Bresson method of "the decisive moment" where capturing those fleeting scenes relies most heavily on the instincts, intuition and skill of the photographer, and is less dependent on advanced tech and auto settings in-camera. I think the AF on the S1 is more than capable of handling most shooting scenarios, but I don't shoot a lot of sports or fast action, so I did not put it to a rigorous test in that regard. I'm not so shy about posting street pics, but I'm definitely no ambush photog like Bruce Gilden. I'm currently in the Fuji 'eco-system' (god I hate that corporate speak). I've been a fuji fanboy for many years, but really want another system for better low light ISO performance and a little more IQ in the studio. I like that the S1 is a serious piece of engineering, whereas the Sonys have cut corners on screen, EVF and general build quality. I live in Saigon and when it rains here, it's serious. I like that the Lumix is genuinely weather sealed. I am yet to get my hands on the S1, so I'm looking forward to doing so, maybe tomorrow. Thanks again for the reply.

@@fredabery3816 Hey Fred, you're welcome :) I don't have experience with Fuji, but I have read and heard great things about them. I would love to try a Fuji sometime, they have a very nostalgic, vintage appeal that I really like. I don't love Sony myself either. While they do some things well, my biggest disappointment in them is their color profiles look horrible in comparison to my other cameras (I have LUMIX, Olympus, Leica & Pentax cameras). It sounds like the S1 would be a very good fit in many ways for your needs regarding ISO, IQ and weather sealing, and I can add just overall design, build and ergonomics, it's just an outstanding and beautifully designed camera. I think the AF is something they get a lot of harsh criticism for, but I have never had any problems with my LUMIX cameras. If you can try one in-store somewhere, that would be ideal. I have also rented gear that I have been on the fence about buying, just to make sure it's a good fit for my needs. You spend a little more that way, but it's a big investment, so I like to have that peace of mind. On the other hand, the S1 is such a high quality product, even if you decide it's not meeting your expectations, I can't imagine you would have a hard time selling it for a fair price. I think I am a good few years away from Lumix full frame. For starters because I think we are some time away from a wildlife camera and also the cost. They don't have the telephoto lenses yet and when they do come the cost is going to be horrendous 😂

I feel you, and I agree. I'm not a wildlife photographer, but if I were, it would be hard for me to use anything besides the Leica 100-400 on a smaller M4/3 body. Just due to size alone, that is a hard combination to beat! I am very excited tho to see what new, smaller version of the S1 they indicated would be soon released. That might tip me towards getting an S camera for the FF sensor because it is AMAZING, and building on the lenses slowly over time, but it won't replace my M4/3 cameras. I have spent the last nearly 10 years investing in my M4/3 lenses, and I am every bit as in love with their small size and outstanding performance today as I ever was. :)

@@JoeMaranophotography Yes, I think most people are too quick to jump to a "larger resolution" camera without considering whether or not they even need all that extra digital data. In reality in most cases, it's overkill and if you move around a lot you can only pack what you can carry. I never have to compromise on M4/3 because I can carry 2-3 bodies and 5+ lenses easily in a small shoulder bag. I also am very pleased with the portraits I can make on my M4/3 system. I use a lot of different lenses, including some vintage lenses which make really beautiful bokeh, and unique looking portraits, but my go-to favorites for shooting portraits are the Leica 42.5mm f/1.2 and OLY 75mm f/1.8 lenses. I did't get to use a true portrait lens with the S1, but I'm sure if I had, it would have been crushingly beautiful. :)

It’s a hard one to answer without knowing more about what you want to shoot, what focal lengths you like, if you need a wide aperture, etc…. so many variables to consider. @@luukkleinsman4522 Yeah, sports is tough, you need a big ole lens for that, and they are typically heavy and expensive. LOL The L mount lenses by Sigma are probably your best bet, as they are not as expensive as the Leica & LUMIX lenses, but still not cheap. You won't get autofocus with any vintage lens, but you can find newer lenses with auto focus features, and possibly get an active adapter that enables the autofocus to work on the S1. I am not sure how "budget friendly" that would be, or how well the autofocus would perform? You know, I really want to like the S1, but the main roadblock for me is the size and weight. I went to m43 and Leica M because I was sick of the size and weight of my Canon 5D Mark II. The S1 just takes me back to Canon and worse.

I hear you, and I know the feeling. I left a Nikon system for M4/3 in 2011 for the same reason! I will never let go of my M4/3 gear, I love it too much, and I'm still using cameras made by LUMIX & Olympus from 2012-2015 (which speaks to their quality). I am interested in seeing the new, smaller body S camera that they have recently talked about in DPReview. That would peak my interest, and I would love to have it as a compliment (not a replacement) to my M4/3 gear. I absolutely loved shooting with the S1 and my M mount vintage lenses! It was great fun, and so much lighter and better suited to travel & street photography. I can't deny the quality and resolution of that FF sensor paired with the charm and compact size of vintage glass felt like I was getting best of both worlds. It was truly an awesome combination. I am hoping to get a video on shooting vintage lenses with the S1 posted soon, so if that might interest you be on the look out for it. Thanks for commenting, and long live M4/3!! :)

As I mentioned in the video, I had the S1 as part of a collaboration project with LUMIX. I no longer have the S1, as I had to send it back to the manufacturer. The screen as it is currently is, is the primary reason I have not yet bought one. I'm waiting to see what they do with the S series, as they are planning to introduce a new, smaller body sometime in the near future. Looking forward to that new design, and hoping for something smaller and lighter, and yes, hopefully with an articulating screen, similar to the G9 with a FF sensor. Fingers crossed! I love the GH series! Might be well worth the wait for the GH6! However I'm with you... S1 doesn't cut it and the S1H is WAY TOO EXPENSIVE! Too big, too heavy, poor AF, different SD card slots, no articulating screen, expensive and few lenses. I hate to say it but with the new cameras out in 2020 including the Canon R5, I will probably be spending my money elsewhere. I'm sure Panasonic will need to drop prices considerably on the S1 line in late 2020 if they want to stay competitive and continue finding buyers for the S1.

Yes, so I have been told! And it's no secret the S1 was modeled after the G9. I am seriously considering it! My biggest hurdle is the size and weight. I got rid of my GX8 because it was too big & heavy, and it sat on a shelf most days for that reason. But after using the S1, I'm thinking maybe I can get used to the size of the G9. And of course it will fit my smaller lenses, so that is a huge plus! :)

@@p_adam19 Yeah, I don't expect a new body design anytime soon, but I can see some variations over time. I would be very attracted to an S series camera that is smaller + lighter, with an articulating screen. If they ever make one, I will be the first in line to buy it! As for lenses, they have a good handful of lenses out now that cover most of your focal lengths, and of course the L mount alliance with Leica & Sigma will deliver a good selection by year's end. I didn't have any problems at all covering any focal length with the S1 and only 3 lenses, once I added the adapter for my vintage collection of Leica M & Minolta primes to fill in the gaps. I actually even preferred those smaller lenses in manual mode over the modern lenses, due to size and portability.

​@@graphiknation Yes, I do like the concept of the Sigma fp, but as a camera it is full of flaws. I mainly use manual lenses as well and they look oversized on these cameras, that's my problem. I like the stabilisation, but the EOS R size and weight is as big I want to go, it does not feel truncated, still handles well with a bigger lens, has a good battery, etc.

@@p_adam19 Well, surely there is some middle ground, between the LUMIX S1 and the Sigma fp that isn't so polarizing. LOL. I will say tho, the sigma fp is a total baller move! Of course it's a direct copy (IMO) of the LUMIX GM1/GM5, with a FF sensor. I have owned a GM1 for many years, and I can tell you from experience, it may be small and sometimes awkward to handle, but it's the only camera I own that I absolutely never leave home without. no one's going to buy the fp as their main shooting workhorse camera, that's not the end game. the fp is a full second body backup camera, that gives you the flexibility to get pick up shots and multiple angles without having to break your whole rig down and change lenses. And it only takes up about as much space in your bag as a second battery. It's genius and revolutionary, and it's what LUMIX has been doing in M4/3 for over a decade, and the reason I switched to M4/3 to begin with. I hope LUMIX can bring that kind of innovation to the S series as well, since it's the reason I fell in love their cameras in the first place. I'm a little disappointed they let sigma beat them to a game they invented almost a decade ago, but maybe that was in their plan all along when they signed the contract for L mount alliance? I don't know, I don't work for LUMIX, but there's no denying if you have seen or used the GM1/GM5, this is a direct copy of that revolutionary design.

(pre loved ) my life this thing is unbeliveable you can photo a fly on the window full size then zoom in at 600 mm optical zoom photo the same fly on the church tower almost full size. throw in 24 frames per sec with autofocus and metering between frames raw. and to finish 4k video s log if you want. and lots more fancy tricks. amazing still like messing with vintage glass on g9 as well as pro lens. i use om lens cheap as chips as we say in the uk. also have lumix s1 with adapter for old om glass. its all a bit of fun messing with these things

Because photography, as seen in the video for her particular use case, a fully articulated display gives you every option possible to get the photo you want, like trying to get a low angle looking up, or perhaps a portrait angle shot taken from above your head. Try to think outside the box there, mate, before assuming that only vloggers have a use for an articulated display.
