Wonderful video. How typical of the Western World to think monohulls are better for long distance voyages. I owned a Wharram catamaran for three years which made me appreciate the sea worthiness of Polynesian vessels.

Is there traditional Polynesian knowledge about the Hadley Cells, where warmed air rises near the equator, and then starts to fall at higher latitudes, around 30 degrees? Since the video mentioned this process, it got me wondering if Polynesian knowledge says about this phenomenon. If there was such traditional knowledge, especially about the North Pacific Gyre, that would be amazing because it would show how Polynesian ancestors voyaged much further north than many people realize.

This the legacy of Papa Mau Piailug together with the original Hokule'a crew in 1976. By their examples of determination, humility, love, and passion they have finally open a centuries old and dormant door to Pacific sailing ❤❤💪🏽💪🏽🌊🌊⛵⛵ Im so happy that it's still going strong.

Is this in The Doldrums / Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone?
@SherrickDuncan2 ай бұрын
I have a question. Is it true that there are never any large waves / hurricanes / typhoons / tsunamis etc in the Doldrums for the same reasons that stranded you there? I ask because I want to permanently anchor the mobile floating tropical Island I am building in that location for that very reason that I have heard of about the doldrums. So wanted to ask someone who has actually been trapped there.

That whale at the 2:36 minute mark likely swam from Hawai'i! The Hokule'a along with this Moananuiakea voyage is so significant in spreading Aloha worldwide, it generates much needed hope for many of us. Hokule'a is a symbol of the human capacity to change course and sail in a sustainable direction. MAHALO PVS!

Aloha @Hokuleacrew. I miss the almost daily updates. We definitely need some serious help in Lahaina. With your muscles and connections, it should be a breeze to get things moving. Still... more testing of the grounds now by Corps of engineers after, EPA. How long before the displaced have a more than temporary roof over their head. The N. E. Winds have been blowing cold. We are bundling up. Those who sleep on the beaches are getting sandblasted. Without the power of Aloha, Lahaina remains STRONG! Mahalo for reading me. :-)
