You know what, I think any bass player would spot the nail clippers and just go "YES", there's nothing like ruining your bass tones with clickety clackety fingers. Ian wins on that one. Oh and More Shanon podcasts please, she's awesome!!!

Speaking of pedals, I just scored a bass big muff pi from my local pawn shop for $40. It looks brand new. I LOVE fuzz and I've been wanting this pedal for a while, I'm super stoked I found it for such a good deal. Not many people in my life that would appreciate this so figured I'd share here.

Anytime Ian and Sharon are doing a podcast. I know it’s gonna be amazing. Ian could be talking about nail clippers and dusting, and Sharon looking like she’d rather be camping… I mean, did she text Dash, and have him play the “mom needs you now” card? Have Birthday Sharon! I hope it was magical. You guys are AWESOME!

I have a 12lb swamp ash p bass. That seatbelt strap would dig into my shoulder with that bass! I recently got the Levy 4in padded strap and its perfect for comfort and distributing the weight - get that for your loved ones if they've ever complained about their bass weight or strap comfort.

I mean I don't mind the pod on the main channel, as long as the spirit of it doesn't change, the episodes don't get shorter etc - I'm here for the personalities of Ian and Scott!

Keep it here! It makes them easier to find. I usually just listen in the car, but when I hear that you are showing something interesting then I come over here to check it out. If they are on the main channel that will make the episodes harder to find. - Keep up the great work! All the bass!

Nail clipper... hmm... got to be a "cool nail clipper" like a Motorhead nail clipper, otherwise is probably something you already have around the house. I found from the MarkBass site a couple of nice sock fillers with the Mark Stand and MarkBass Bass Keeper. Sheet metal 1/4" plugs are still my #1 gift.

Shazz is amazing! Keep the channel small. I know you want to go big, but this is so cozy. I'm torn. LOL! Dunlop greenies are my favorite. I think they're .88s. I like a little flex in the pick. I have a wide 3.5 or 4 inch leather strap I bought at Guitar Center 40 years ago on my main bass, a '92 Guild Pilot. I play some heavy basses...a Ric, a Univox Lucite bass, and I have a Schekter baritone that's really heavy. I wear my strap out on my shoulder joint, so the bones are taking most of the weight of the bass, not the muscles that lie closer to my neck. I've never had a neck or upper back problem from a heavy instrument, and a Ric was my main bass for many years. Those quarter inch sheet metal plugs are sheer genius, Ian. What size are those rubber washers you use as strap locks? Thanks for all you guys do!

Great podcast. So relaxed and funny. These ones with Sharon and Ian is really a gem. And Sharon, congrats in arrears. This might be over the budget but a nice 60´s jazz bass could also be a nice present. I´ve never got one but I got a pair of nail clippers once that was kind of nice. Cheers Marcus

my addition to gear you want under $50 would be a Victorinox swiss army knife (if they don't already have one) something like the 'compact' with a nailfile, scissors, screwdrivers etc. or another good quality multitool with useful stuff for a gig

I've found the ones with the combination pliers on them is the most useful thing ever. That one thing alone is great for cutting light gage wires and maneuvering things in tight spots (I have big fingers). When I got mine, I thought I would never use it, but it's become what I use probably 85% of the time I get my knife out.

A soft brush is a must when you do gigs on beaches. The sand gets in everywhere and if you just wipe it off with a cloth, the sand grains will leave scratches on your bass. You'll need a very soft dust brush for removing sand, not a paint brush.

Love the strap conversation. Not a seatbelt strap fan as a lot of my 5 string basses are a bit neck heavy and they slide. Though I have a number of the Couch vinyl straps and they are epic. Also, as an Irishman I can't own anything that is black and tan combined! Treating myself to one of those Couch Aladdin Sane bass straps. Have a sparkly pink Sire 5 string that I reckon it would look great with. This is great fun, more Sharon and Ian bass chats please 😁

Cables are sooooo important for your tone and sometimes people just use whatever they found. I use Xbass cables from Dave Lowe, and they're just amazing. I have one just like yours with G&H high clarity plugs and they do make a difference. Also using a proper IEC cable for your amp does make a noticeable difference. Mine is a Rattlesnake one, and they also do amazing instrument cables BTW.

Not a single recommendation for good books to learn harmony, scales, etudes,etc...I don't think most gear will help anyone as much as actually learning more deeply about music.....though of course, it's clear that adding another bass to our collection MIGHT make us better?

Love Ian and Scott, but if they both -plus this guest-would just NEVER use the word “like”- the literary equivalent of a “selfie”- both are “likeaholics”-selfies and “like” are just plain lazy and narcissistic -their program would be far more listenable, and they would sound much more intelligent and self-aware.
