Thanks for being deeply interested in something (most people really don't :D) and for exploring Prague in the unusual way. I hope you liked the city. Hugs from Prague! :)

I hope you enjoyed your vacation here in Sofia just wanted to let you know that If you plan on visiting Sofia again I recommend you to do it in the summer the temperatures are 35-40 degrees also If you arrive on terminal 1 with Wizz, Easyjet or charter flights you don't need to catch the shuttle buss you can get on bus 84 or 184 (they both go to both terminals but 84 has already been to T2 and if you get on 184 you'll go to terminal 2 first and then to the centre on 84 It'll drive you to the city center near the biggest and oldest university in Bulgaria, the 2 parliament buildings and the presidency)

The guards infront of the presidency are bulgarian national guard ,before they were guarding the tzar and their uniforms are the uniforms of the bulgarian militia during the russo-turkish war from 1878 that liberated bilgaria from ignorant muslim occupation ,before 15th century the balkans and the byzantene empire ,eastern europe were better developed than the western part....the boyana church paintings are proof that the renesance started in the balkans 40 years before it happened in italy (this is the so called realism,or paintings of a real people in at the boyana church these are the paingings of the nobelman from sofia reageon and his wife they donate money for the church arround1300s)and the artists and architects and scientists from the east migrated to the west after the turks conquered all eastern europe and they boosted the renesance in the west by doing this

Georgi rakovski is a pioneer in the sience of etnology and wrote the first book about bulgarian etnology ,after this people from all arround the globe send him letters and ask for directions to create such books for their nations....there are also schools named after him all the way to india,because he helped them with smth,i dont recall what,also while he was still alive in vienna they made an opera dedicated to him and he was at the premiere,our revolutionaries hristo botev and vasil levski are interesting to explore,for example botev was helping hawai to gain independence and one of his friends became the first prime minister in honolulu,this are unortodox things that are not written anywhere,vasil levski was a pioneer in disguise and the cia was exploring his work and how he created the biggest secret revolutionary cometee in europe for the time(middle 1800s)the turks found out for his activities years later and found out how he look like even more later,they called him gyn,or ghost,cause he seemed to dissappear into thin air,one of levski sayings are written in the cia headquarters in verginia

6:50 the lion you see here used to be a huge memorial complex dedicated to the fallen Bulgarian soldiers from the Balkan wars and ww1,it contained all the names of them,but because during ww1 Russia was our enemie and we defeated a cavalry cossac devision and other formations (by the way,the blitzkrieg tactics of Heinz guderian are inspired from this battles commanded by the Bulgarian general ivan kolev ,who used the calvary in an unorthodox way for blitzkrieg attacs)of the Russian empirial army,the Bulgarian comunists demolished it ,now there are calls for the monument to be restored,there are photos arround Google of the original one,the lion is just a part of it

I'm from Slovakia and I can tell you where the locals are on a hot summer day...outside the city cycling, hiking, sitting by the lake or gardening/BBQing in their holiday home. Slovaks don't spend much time in town centres. We prefer the outdoors, that's why our towns seem deserted and every tourist points this out :) . Go to the Tatra Mountains and you will see where all the people are lol You can see all of Bratislava in a day or two, but I like how relaxed it is for a capital city. And it's actually a great place to live mainly because of all the outdoorsy options they have. I lived there for 6 months and there are events every night somewhere in the city. You can find a fun festival on a random Tuesday. Have you been to Danubiana Meulensteen Art Museum? It's a cool place built in the middle of the Danube river. You can even go hiking in the Little Carpathian mountains just outside the city. I really like how connect locals are with the stuff that's outside the city. I hope you enjoyed your time in Bratislava :)

Oh trust me, the city is very popular with British tourists. Especially the drunken ones. Can't tell you how many times I've been yelled at: "Hey Love, come join us." while they were having a bachelor party in one of the pubs (usually Lochness or Irish Pub). There were also quite few stories where British tourists were caught peeing into the fountain and then swimming in it, dangling from statues, fighting while being absolutely wasted. Bratislava is a popular place for bachelor parties as apparently it's cheaper to fly there than have one in London or some other city.
@n1ckburt0n
@n1ckburt0n 25 күн бұрын
Well, by that comment I meant that Bratislava is probably lower on the list of places receiving the most British tourists than it kinda should be based on location/price/vibe etc. I’m surprised more don’t go there tbh 🇸🇰 Yeh it would definitely be cheaper to go to Bratislava than have a bachelor party in London, London is ridiculously expensive! 💰 As for wasted British tourists causing problems, yeh it’s not ideal & it makes it trickier for the rest of us “normal” Brits 🇬🇧 when travelling…👀
@Phobos_Nyx
@Phobos_Nyx 25 күн бұрын
@@n1ckburt0n Don't worry, even when they were drunk, they were actually quite polite. Can't say they were making advances or something like that, just having a good time while yelling at locals. I bet Slovaks are doing the same somewhere else. Bratislava has a tiny old town (most of it was torn down to build the UFO bridge) and that for some people means it's not worth visiting. Sure, if you only want to see old town, go to Prague, Budapest, Vienna. But if you don't mind walking and taking a bus or boat, you can always go and visit Devin Castle, or go on a hike to Devínska Kobyla, Horský Park (a little forest above the city centre), Kamzík Tower, many museums or galleries. There are many places you can visit in Bratislava but many people just hop on a train or bus without doing any research first. Slovakia is in general always considered as the little and lesser sibling of Czechia, Poland and Hungary. People think if they visited those countries, there is no need to go to Slovakia because they think it's the same there as well. And then if they decide to go there, they are surprised that almost 80% of Slovakia is mountainous. I wish people would visit more places in Slovakia not just Bratislava and then form an opinion about the country.
@n1ckburt0n
@n1ckburt0n 25 күн бұрын

17:49 on Haje there is a statue of only two czech, or more precisely said, two czechoslovak astronauts, from which only one of them was actually in space back in 1978 - Vladimir Remek. The other one was a substitute for Remek. Btw. Remek was a first astronaut in space which nationality was outside of USA or Russia (Soviet Union/USSR). ESA (European Space Agency) refers to him as the first european astronaut in history... and just to ad, in the close proximity to the metro station Haje was a multiplex cinema, called Galaxie (galaxy)...

Nice! 🙂 Don't forget other transport options, you also have a suburban rail network in Vienna. For example, near Seestadt you could walk to Aspern Nord where suburban trains (Schnellbahn) and other local / regional express trains stop going to Stadlau (U2), Simmering (U3 near Erdberg) or Hauptbahnhof (U1). However, the Schnellbahn trunk line (not this one) is also disconnected for maintenance this summer - together with the U4 line - which angers many commuters. From Stadion you could also have used the miniature park railway Liliputbahn to get into Prater park.

Oh a lot of great information there 😎 thank you! I was in Bratislava few years ago for a New Year's holidays. It was nice, but really boring. We were staying in a reasonably not that bad, but not so good hotel with payed breakfast and dinner. The tables, the curtains, the decor and the menu were exactly the same as 40 years ago in hard socialist times. That brought up some beautiful memories. The old town is nice for a little walk, clean and boring. The rest of the city is kind of cold industrial stile, clean but very boring. Tourist attractions are scarce and boring. Anyway, I wish you a nice boring vacation in Bratislava 😊

People are with their families around Christmas and NY, so not that much happens in the city on the outside. But boring? It always depends on what one finds entertaining. Usually most of the tourist run in a circle of like 5 kilometers and never get to visit interesting nature, bars, unique restaurants, cool historical sites and so on. But if its Disneyland you are looking for, you are in the wrong place.
