Absolutely fantastic video. Really. When you stumble across a video essay with 400 views and a channel with 1k subscribers, you normally don't expect much, if nothing else just because the editing is usually so-so. Which is understandable - editing is hard and takes time, effort, and skill many small creators don't have. But this was a phenomenal video, by any standard. Over an hour of video essay with b-roll at every step. That's really impressive. And of course the analysis was great. What you said for outer wilds applies for this too - you can really see in all the details that this is a labor of love. A lot of channels don't have that. Kudos for this fantastic video. (Sorry if that was a bit much :P I just really want to encourage someone doing something so cool!)

Great review and analyses!!! ::)) And yes, it is a Masterpiece game in many aspects. About DLC "flaws" - not all puzzles are built in lore, but I found to myself some explanations for them. Maybe existed 2 factions: followers of the Prisoner (or Society of Burned Reels) and Secret Police. And followers tried several times to escape the Prisoner, but Police always prevented to finish that. 1st try - followers found were codes are in Real World and remain a vision how to find them. Police destroy real copies of the codes. 2nd try - followers found "body-cam" memories of how secret police hides digital copies of codes and put reels in Real World. Police convert this places to deadly traps and destroy digital codes. 3rd try - followers remain in Glitches reels and code to Signal Blocker Control. Police destroy all Controls on a Stranger or disable them.

@@viteav208 Thank you ::) I did consider the idea that there might be two groups, because it would seem odd that every one of their species would agree on the same thing so completely, and only one wouldn't. But in the end, the game never hinted at this divide, or even had additional prisoners as a consequence to anyone trying to free them. The game itself is very detailed, so I'd think they would be able to encapsulate that if it did happen. Maybe in a sense this secret police tried to bait others who might follow the prisoner with the reels, but this second group never came to exist because no one wanted to free the prisoner.

Anyone getting upset over an NPC death can just go back to Skyrim. The whole point of this game is realistic world responses. You watched someone die, they’re dead. No more merchant, no more quests no more dialogue. I just wish it was done more and better in other areas of the game

Thank you SO MUCH for getting the Hearthians' genders/pronouns (mostly) correct. ❤ An often overlooked and vital aspect to the game is that the Hearthians are all non-binary. They understand the concept of gender, and may even have different sexes, but as a society they've moved beyond gender as being a defining part of oneself. This is such an important thing that the developers went to great lengths to ensure that this aspect was present in every language the game was translated into (which isn't easy!) What I find amusing is that, even though the Hearthians exclusively use they/them pronouns in speech, people seem to be blind to that and impose their own ideas of gender onto the characters. :O Going through the game an additional time with this understanding adds a whole new layer of depth and understanding and nuance to everything. :D Edit: It's nearly impossible to find a video that discusses this game or that's a playthrough of it that actually notices this. :O
@Rannockh2 күн бұрын
@@RaptieFeathers Thanks! It was indeed sometimes a bit of a challenge - recording something and then hearing it back only to realize I used the wrong pronouns. I did consider the idea that the Hearthians are non-binary, and while I think it would've been a lovely piece of representation, I think it's more about them having no or one biological sex and consequently having no genders. Sort of similar to the Asari from the Mass Effect series - they look like a race of aliens with only female individuals, but that's just our perspective influenced by the gender binary, the Asari don't really have sex and gender. That being said, it's another great aspect of the writing - that it can make such distinct differences between species through small touches in its text, and the consistency in doing so is fantastic. I didn't even know they managed to achieve this in every language translation!
@RaptieFeathersКүн бұрын
@Rannockh So! They have the concept of sex and gender, as seen through the Nomai translations. I'll have to dig up the interview, but it was mentioned somewhere that the in-universe reason that they're non-binary is because gender doesn't matter to them. I don't think of it as being far-fetched, either, and it's a conclusion that can be reached using only the information presented in-game, without any speculation needed. :D Edit: Aha! From the development blog, under the entry "Localization," if you search for the term "concept of gender for themselves", that paragraph specifically mentions that they are actively non-binary and that they don't feel the need to address sex through using gender. :D
@RannockhКүн бұрын
@RaptieFeathers That's very neat! It's definitely one of the more hidden things then. I also find it interesting how, technically, they must've had a notion of gender since they do have words for he or she to use in translations for nomai text. Although for both species, whether they have biological differences in sex or not, gender indeed does not seem to matter at all.

Half of the issues people have are either there own fault or they didn’t pay attention to the marketing or dev statements. I’ve seen so many people say they don’t like it cuz it’s too similar to the first game. The devs litterally said it wasn’t a sequel. It’s the version of the first game they WANTED to make. And it’s such an improvement over the first game in litterally every single way. Anyone saying otherwise is looking at the first through rose tinted glasses. The first was great but in modern day it’s got some serious issues. The story is DD2 isn’t bad or rushed at all. It FEELS that way if you just rush through the main story but that’s not the correct way to play the game. You’re supposed to really immerse yourself in the world and if you do there are no other games that do what DD2 does. A lot of people complain about things like the fast travel and if that’s a deal breaker for you then simply put this isn’t the game for you. This game isn’t an immersive sim but it’s extremely similar. The first game also had some crazy balancing issues with some vocations being hot trash and some being the unofficial one easy mode. DD2 vocations are ALL viable even solo.

In the whole video the most prevalent point is that the game is soulless because of its monetary practices (which I agree with even if they are misconstrued in the video), the rest is just most comparisons to persona. You can say the mechanics of this game are unoriginal, but it's a far shot to call them soulless. Same with the story and setting, it feels like in your attempts to compare everything to persona you just forgot to experience the story on its own merit. A lot of the story and setting are misrepresented, and it feels like the arguments were constructed after you reached the conclusion, so they feel forced to fit your narrative. Nevertheless, the review isn't soulless, it felt like that at the start, but the whole video clearly had a lot of effort, passion, and thought put into it. Same with the game you review @@Rannockh

so it's all basically this: in the end of DD1 we killed ourself as seneschal, leaving the throne empty. one day, an arisen named Rothais came, found no one. He became seneschal. But since no one there to guide him (like Savan did to us), he doesn't understand what being seneschal means to do. So Rothais left the throne, went back to earth and became king. Pathfinder saw that the position of seneschal is not empty, BUT THERES NOBODY IN THE SENESCHAL THRONE! despite the seneschal status has been filled with somebody. So, Pathfinder tried to take the seneschal's job and created the world. Unfortunately, he created a messed up world which is DD2. Pathfinder then tryna to erase the world (like the situation we see in post game DD2) But Pathfinder was already looking for someone with a will big enough to stop the erasing, which is us player of DD2. Pathfinder tested us thru the "normal" world if we are ready to face THE TRUTH. And thats it, the tragic story of Dragon's Dogma. Anyone below The Watcher are just A PAWN. 1. The Great Will (Maker of Universes) 2. The Wathcer 3. The Pathfinder 4. Seneschal 5. Arisen 6. Pawn 7. Regular human 8. Human's artificial intelegence/robot. Robot is pawn to human, Pawn is pawn to Arisen, Arisen and human are pawn to seneschal, seneschal is pawn to pathfinder, pathfinder is pawn to The Watcher, The Watcher is pawn to THE GREAT WILL.

The woke thing. I feel like there are people in the industry that push their agendas but i really don't think it's as many as some call out. I mean i notice if anything has a gay character, black woman or latino as a playable character or even an important NPC it gets called out for being woke. Which i personally don't consider that to qualify as agenda pushing. Now if the game was beating you over the head that straight people or white people are absolutely evil and being gay makes you more special than everyone than yeah that's pretty woke not to mention stupid af as a business move. Just alienate most your audience for your personal beliefs and get mad when hardly buys your game, they just made their bed but don't want to sleep in it which says more about their mental state than it does we the people. I'm glad you're not one of them that tried to cancel this game! This was a good video! Great job! Glad it doesn't have an egregious amount of mini games! Idc. They are. Not. Fun. We are not having. The streamlining of the vocations and the streamlining of the armor system very much harm the game imo. Honestly, I would go without the new vocations if we kept all the old vocations and weapon combos. I remember being excited to have all the old vocations plus some new ones for the things that were missing. But instead they cut down the vocations while adding some new ones that I don't want to use. You also have less skill slots you can equip. And not giving you access to all the vocations in the beginning sucks.. their reason for streamlining the armors is to add more variation in looks.. but instead there are far less options due to the limitations.

Or they could be a girl next door look Aloy hot but not over the top. Lara Croft. There was a reason she got hotter with each game. It helped sell the game. This character has zero of anything. Trying to make her a character that no even a guy who been in prison for 50 years and got out would want to f*ck was a mistake. Sex sells. Whether people like it or not.
