The Avatar Experience | Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora

So, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora came out just earlier this month and it's shaping up to be a rather pedestrian big budget game. In this video I'll be going through what I thought of the game, with a list of Ubiquity I prepared beforehand just to have a laugh at how predictable Ubisoft's game design is.
The video uses Avatar's OST, Fallout's Blue Moon, and Kevin MacLeod's Local Forecast.
This Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora gameplay has been recorded on the PS5 - and for the most part it runs it well with a few visual hiccups.

You are sooo right. I have hundreds of hours in Ubisoft games, but gave up on this one after 10 hours and spent the month on Ghost Recon Wildlands (2017). Now playing The Divison (2016).

I watch a lot of game reviews because I game everyday which requires me to find lots of games that are not hot garbage like most things in our society now a days. I do not trust more than 95% of the reviewers that I watch because my views do not align with them. But I resonated with your video fully. I want to thank you for making it and keeping it real.

Yeah, I feel like this hits the mark. An Avatar game had so much potential, especially with the movie coming out just prior, however they licensed it to the worst possible game company to manage it. I didn't buy a game to play Far cry, I don't honestly even like First person games, I wanted an exploration game with a fun and interesting story, instead what we got was "A settlement is in danger, I'll go mark it on your map" but not even good. I hope some day we can get a new Avatar game that can do it justice, but I fear that because of this monstrosity, the opportunity will be forever lost to us.

I sometimes wish projects like these would go to smaller studios that are willing to experiment and push concepts forward creatively. Big companies like Ubisoft are used to playing it safe with what works and it gets monotonous. Unfortunately though, these sort of things are usually pushed aside because the main focus is the monetary bottom line, so it makes sense that Ubisoft would get the license - but I do wish things were different.

Couldn't agree with your points more! Avatar. a movie franchise known for breaking boundaries and being visually stunning. The game should replicate that in a games context. The game should feel like a whole new experience. Regardless of graphics, the gameplay is something I'd expect from a PS3 game. It hardly says 'Next Gen' to me. Ubisoft's Ideas have great potential and sound phenomenal on paper. but their execution of said ideas have been consistently disappointing and always leaves me wishing and preaching that they should have gone a different direction. IMO

Absolutely! It's been so disheartening to see games with real potential fall under the trap of doing more of the things we already expect. Ubisoft benefits from being a huge company with a lot of budget and possibilities, but hardly any creativity or willingness to make something unique. It's formula is at this point so well known it doesn't feel fresh, and frankly it's really outdated. It's pretty crazy how through time the only substantial thing to have really improved are the graphics and new microtransacrions strategies.

I think its such a shame a company like Ubisoft has consistently let down their fans and player base with games that consistently miss the mark. especially when the mark seems as clear as it can be. In the background, It feels as if the question that they're continuously asking is "how can we make more money from this". that question should come after the success of a game. not during the production. I think this mindset is very present in Ubisoft at the moment and is compromising and sabotaging any creative ideas the teams have. regarding the micro transactions. its crazy how normalised its become to throw them into a game you expect your audience to drop close to £100 on. especially on drop. sends out the complete wrong message.

As soon as i seen ubisoft i knew it was down hill from there. When avater 1 came out i was entranced that i watched the movie over and over again with out ever getting board and to see it reduced to such a lack luster game that i just want to never pick up again is sad, i wish the would have picked a different studio to make this game, maybe fromsoft or someone else. No dought someone else could have made a better game than ubisoft who just keeps bring the same game to the table just under a different name and look
