I owned a Triumph Thruxton 900 and recently sold my Bonneville T120 from 2016. Both are great bikes,but the Bonneville misses character. Does everything great, Torque is crazy good but still i enjoy the Kawa much more. An old Triumph is my dream, but they are beyond my budget and capabilties for now.

One of my buddies in college back in the mid '70s had one of these. He also had a Triumph which he would ride when going bar hopping the theory being he wouldn't be able to start the Triumph if he had a beer or two too many. Of course the reality was a quick bump start and the theory was dashed. These old Guzzis put the new ones to shame.

Nice bike. My bike starts first time and idles at about 700 rpm. Ive just bought saddle bags and rear carrier as im going on a 4000km ride in feb. The event is the Burt Munro challenge in Invercargill New Zealand where 1000s of bike converge. I thought it would be great to ride a retro classic like the w650 to it. Im going to order a front screen for it too.

Nice one ! I have pretty-much the same-bike , the engines can be noisy but they are very-strong , 250,000k's before serious-work or half a million if you're lucky ( one in Japan has done more and hasn't been apart ! ) You can buy nice chrome (Metal) headlights for them . The chrome W800 chain-guard fits straight on . Original guards often come-up for sale second-hand when people 'modify them' , you might have to look a little further-afield . They are fun bikes and can be pushed-hard , a 'No's-bottle ' could be interesting , you've probably seen what Tom from Schlachtwerk did to one . Dave nz

Painted or changed out all that beautiful chrome to shitty black, that's insane! The down pipes are discoloured in a way that originals don't, so they're definitely wrong. But it's mostly original and still a beautiful bike. You're gonna love it 🙂

Very nice bike. The only thing I would change are the mickey mouse ears (original side view mirrors). My GS500 came with the same ones and I changed them to the rectangle shaped ones, because they look more modern and less goofy, and mainly because the field of view of these circle mirrors are just not good enough safety-wise. But that's just my two cents. Your maintenance/renovation on this bike is otherwise great!
@Kinghariii
@Kinghariii 12 күн бұрын
Well, we all have our own taste/preferences :) For me a side mirror must always be round and i don't mind the look. I also thought about bar end mirrors, but nah, they make bike wider than it needs to be.

Nice find. These things are as rare as rocking horse poo, in Australia. I saw in one of your other videos that you didn't like the rear guard. Khammotoproduct in Thailand make re-production items for a modest $130 Usd. You could also try Moto Centre Mertens in Belgium. The top end of your bike sounds a little noisy, for one of these, but it might just be the audio quality of the video. By all accounts it is relatively easy to shim them yourself but shouldn't be an expensive proposition for a service department to do. From memory, the workshop manual is available as an electronic download. The idle speed on the 800 is 1,250 RPM, by the way. I don't know whether it's the same for the 650, but it's worth keeping in mind that low idle speeds equal low oil pressure. Faster is better than slower but comes at the expense of heat. These things don't like to be idled at stationary for extended periods. The owner's manual states to turn off the engine after 5 minutes at stationary or sooner if you believe you won't be moving for that amount of time. These are a very under rated motorcycle. While not "fast", they're fast enough, and when you become familiar with the bike and learn how to get the most out of the engine and gearbox, they can be hustled along quite quickly and effortlessly and in the most rewarding way. The "real world" performance is actually very good. And there's an "X" factor with these. There is just something about them that always puts a smile on your face. They are fun. You might be interested to know that my mechanic has one of these as a daily rider. He has been offered significant money for it and won't part with it! He also services a customer's W800 which he claims runs like new with 150k km. on the odometer. Aside from general service items, he hasn't touched the bike. If you haven't seen an exploded view of the engine, they are over engineered, to say the least. The bottom end features a four bearing main and is virtually indestructible. I came across an owner on a forum who had a 650 with a staggering 240k km on it and he'd never had the head off. Incredible. One last thing. Tyres. These respond really well to radial tyres. The OEM Dunlops just aren't up to the task, although they are good in the rain. I'm running Bridgestone radials on my 800. There are others available from other manufacturers. Enjoy your ride. I'm envious of you!

Hi there, I have a superb, original in every detail one of these. Yes, the front fender on yours has been cut, which is a pity. Your exhausts are totally non original but should be okay. The original `chrome` headlight bowl, is in fact plastic, not metal and I don`t think a metal one is available. I honestly thought mine was metal until I took it off but you would never know. It`s a shame it doesn`t have the beautiful chrome tank badges. The engine shouldn`t rattle like that and it probably needs the shaft driven overhead cam, setting up properly. Still a nice bike. Enjoy.

While the final drive on this bike is certainly chain driven, the overhead cam on this engine is driven by a short shaft with bevel gears on each end, similar to many older Ducatis or as I referenced, a 1957 Jawa 500 OHC twin.

Hi from NZ. Sweet ride mate. Cans not stock. The original peashooter starts between the end of the swing arm and the back of the rear cog. And yes, the join is wrong. The whole rear end is completely different. SO jealous though!!! Very few W series made it here and both the 650 and 800 are very cool bikes indeed!! And your English is excellent so please don't apologise. It's us English speakers who should apologise for not speaking more different languages!! :) And of course you guys did give us Arnie...

Haha yeah, i am also very pleased about the fact, that someone already changed the stock exhaust system. I always liked the W 650, but they are pretty rare too in Austria and most of the time too expensive. Got lucky with this one and could not be happier. It's not the fastest nor lightest bike, but it's easy to ride and a joy to work on (except removing the carbs or battery haha) Cheers to NZ and ride safe mate!
