I miss alma and Brianna. Really thought they'd make it. Best they'd make it was getting hit by a train.

If a blind person suddenly gained sight today, they would feel very happy. So why don’t we, who can see every day, feel very happy?

I really love this movie. Particularly when it came out. Being cooped up due to quarantine, it helped to give a reminder of the little things in the outside world. The small things.

June being Aunt Lydia in this scene and using the same words for the execution of the rapist in the first season is amazing mirroring.

Ma Rainey knew that they wouldn't spit on her if she was on fire if she couldn't sing. So she never got the lines crossed even if she worked with them for years, they weren't friends.

Truly, Earth is NOT our permanent home. Heaven is our permanent home. That doesn’t mean to go & kill yourself so that you can be at Heaven quicker, but that you can experience more life & learn what things make you stronger & weaker.

I love it. In those times white producers, directors, etc. took advantage of black artist singers and actors. Ma, like many others, decided that she was not going to be taken advantage of. This reminds me of Aretha Franklin and why she brings her purse on stage with her!

This scene actually mirrors a scene from Fences which Viola Davis also starred in, in which Troy's (Denzel Washington) son comes to ask him for money and ends up in an argument whereby he talks about music is what gets him up in the world and makes him feel like he belongs.

I love how well they casted this character. Hugh Grant probably wishes he could embrace his true nature in real life, so he lives vicariously through these types of characters in order to fulfill himself. It’s important for casting directors to choose people that don’t stray too far from the realities of the characters they have to portray. I hope Hugh’s real family remains safe

The way she crumbles into tears at 1:09 is heartbreaking. You could see as she arrived home that she went immediately upstairs to get some privacy. She needed to let her pain out as soon as possible.
