If you are cutting hair at home, you can use 3-In-One oil, but sparingly. In a shop you can only use approved products to clean and lubricate your tools. 3-In-One oil originally was sold as sewing machine oil, but it has a myriad of uses.

Had no success with this technique for groomer Aesculap snap-on10 blade. It snags more hair than before and gives a grating sound. It could be because of the Hyde Block. Any input would be appreciated! Using a test paper it cuts far more cleanly at the edges (like a scissors) compared to the centre, which is raggedy. I cleaned the bur by brushing and using new paper multiple times and used 7in1 oil for cleaning as well. Maybe it's the hyde block because the sharpened blade has a big crescent,you can actually see a height difference. So maybe the centre teeth now have a gap between them. After checking the block you can see a slight height difference in the width. Ironically, probably the height difference you want for hollow grind. But I think sharpening sideways is bad for the teeth, let alone the issue of the small width area. I already adjusted the tension and socket. But I noticed that my new aesculap blade nr5 has less tension (2pounds) compared to another brand i ordered (3pound). So maybe 3 pounds is too much for aesculap dog grooming blades.

What about the hollow that is supposed to be in the blade that is why there is a machine to do them. Misleading information.
@keepitsharp3572 ай бұрын
I have other videos that explain the hollow ground. If you look at parts two and parts 3 videos you would see the it’s not misleading information. Thanks for making an effort to inform people to save them from false information. We do need more people to be straight forward and honest like you in this world. So honestly I give much respect to you. But if you can check out the other videos

I dig the LIVE bass & drum intro (fellow bassist here)! Killer idea, killer execution. The clear & concise delivery of the advice is very appreciated. Would I be wrong to assume I could substitute a quality knife oil (like KPL for instance) for the Blade Boost or will it achieve similar results? Thanks

Great info as I have been looking for something just like this. I have an old Oster clipper that belonged to a long ago family member but it is still good as ever, thanks.
@MacheteBushcraftAustralia4 ай бұрын
First up, love your work, Mate! Your family dynamics is a great example for all of us, & the music - icing on the cake. I have been (doughnut) flat sharpening clippers for many years and have excellent results. I can understand the push back from pro sharpeners was partly factual, but I suspect it was mostly the fact that you're cutting their grass'. I remember getting the same push back 20 years ago when I was trying to figure out how to do it myself. With trial & error, I stumbled across something similar to what you have shown in your previous clips. I shave my own head and beard every 2 weeks and I get about 3 years between sharpening an old school Wahl super taper. I have sharpened my friends blades as well & have been getting similar results. I settled on 400grit flat grinding, but I'm going to try your method. I think It's safe to say, this is your area of expertise. I'm wondering if a different hollow grinding jig might suit the in between (not a pro sharpener, but a remote barber shop) sharpeners? If you cut the teeth of an old handsaw so you end up with a long rectangle plate with bit of spring. You could gently spring up the centre by pushing from each end, between two blocks. This would give a much shallower curve that matches your pro convex sharpening disk. You could back fill the curve with some builders bog (two part polyester filler) to give you a hard plate with a relatively consistent arc. The longer length could be an advantage. Not that I wanted to add to your 'clippercide' demise, but I'm a firm believer that information should be shared freely. On that note, this will be the next project on my list. All the best from OZ, Ben
