The Electric Blue or the Albino? I just want to make sure I pass on the compliment to the right fish😉🤣👍🏻

The Albino, great colours. I'm thinking of going for a couple of these if I can get them from my local fish store

I find it hard to find smaller quantities of fish food. I don't want a huge can of flakes/pellets to sit around for ever. When do you decide to toss old food and replace it with fresh? Thanks Ben.
@RJohnson.2 ай бұрын
I never see anyone else ever do it, but I shut down my fx6’s before I feed so it doesn’t blow the food everywhere.

My concern, because I’ve heard some horror stories, would be forgetting to plug it back in.

I have aa simease algae eater and I put a few shrimp pellets and algae wafers all my fish go after it

lol 😂 I told you when you first got the Albino Acaras to set up a tank for them separately, maybe one of your 55 gallon tanks . They don’t do well with aggressive eaters, which is mostly every fish lol I pulled mine out of the tank when I observed they’re not aggressive eaters and weren’t getting a chance to eat. They are beautiful slow moving, slow to eat fish

Well, I honestly don’t think it’s that funny.
@miguelcintron70482 ай бұрын
@@BenOchart it’s not funny Ben , I didn’t mean to come across that way keeping it lighthearted is all. It took me losing a couple and researching to figure out that they don’t do well with other aggressive eating fish and I never thought I’d see the day a fish wouldn’t be aggressive to eat. I honestly never kept fish that didn’t attack food

Hi Ben, with regard to feeding your cichlids, how much food at each feeding, and how many times a day?

Hi Ben, with regard to feeding your South American cichlids, how many times a day do you feed them, and how much?
@BenOchart2 ай бұрын
I estimate a heaping tablespoon twice a day and bloodworms (6 frozen cubes) once a week.

Thank you Ben.

Hi Ben , I notice you use quite small pellets to feed medium and large fish. I use the larger 5mm - 6mm for my large pike cichlid , chocolate cichlid and 8" Geophagus. Do you have a good reason to use smaller pellets ? I am guessing you do 😊
@BenOchart2 ай бұрын
I’m still undecided in this area. One thought is that larger pellets are too dry when gobbled up by the fish, making them harder to get down and digest. If you pre-soak them they turn to cloudy dust during the feeding. I’ve used Xtreme Big Boy (6mm?) and the big Hikari Gold pellets and never ran into an issue. So for me, I’m concluding that it’s good either way.

@@BenOchart thanks for the reply Ben. I think a good variety is the sensible answer. Large cichlids seem to lose a lot of the food through their gills so maybe smaller pellets would be swallowed and not chewed as much as the larger variety. Pity we can't ask the fish 🤣🤣

Nice. Does leaving the filters/wavemakers/bubblers on at feeding time have any negative effects on fish that feed at the top of the tank? e.g. can their swallowing bubbles along with the food cause any problems?
@BenOchart2 ай бұрын
In some tanks I have pre-filters that keep the food from getting sucked up. I don’t turn things off because I might forget to plug them back in and that could be a disaster.

I find the trout fascinating lately. Turning into a monster. I noticed the rainbow with the half tail looks like it might have an injury on its side?

Ben do you feed flakes to your big fsh?

Yes. Every now and then I’ll feed them big krill flakes from Northfin.

What do you do when one of your fish ( blue texas) refuses to eat ? my only conclusion is it's holding fry
@BenOchart2 ай бұрын
Are they mouth brooders? I usually offer something they can’t resist like frozen bloodworms or krill or I’ll soak pellets in something like Seachem Garlic Guard. If they still don’t eat for 3 or 4 days I might start a parasite treatment depending on how they look (sunken belly?).
