We’ve had two toppers for the 19 years we’ve been tripping about America on our Montana 2955RL. Where we don’t full time yet, we travel lots of the time, averaging over 7,000 miles per year. Once a quarter, the slides are opened, and the tops that comes into the rig are cleaned to remove any dust that may have accumulated. Our covers are starting to feel somewhat inflexible (I call it crispy), even though they are cleaned and sprayed with protectant, so they are scheduled for replacement before next summer. I think if I were to change to this new process, I’d want to “wax” the exposed area to limit anything staying on top when slides are closed. Just thinking🥸Rollo

Thanks...I was wondering about shooting news screws in, now I know I can...The inside ones for the trim are still a question...I was told no...Use old holes, stay with short screws...Short screws make sense, but ones there now are rounded out and I'm following up on another's poor installation...Leaks everywhere...The guy tried, bad back, so I'll give'em a break, huh.

I had a 15" wide 18' long peel and stick panel on my 99' Bounder for several years. It worked very well. The big downside was it conducted a LOT of heat into my roof and much like a Styrofoam cup in a fire, it dissolved my 4" of Styrofoam in my laminated roof. I tore the panel of and used a borescope to look and under the panel, all the foam was gone. The rubber membrane, the 1/4 inch plywood were just fine, but it got hot enough to melt the foam underneath. I have pics if anyone is interested.

That is certainly a cautionary tale! Sorry to hear. We definitely prefer rigid glass panels as opposed to the flexible, peel and stick type, and outfitted our new rig with eight rigid panels instead of the 50-50 split we had on our motorhome.

Question: I saw the lock with the heavy duty chain that was securing your tires. What I the name of that particular lock. I went to the website but wow so many options I can’t seem to find it. I made a custom lock for my MTB using logging chain and that lock you have would be perfect. Thank you
@RVgeeks
@RVgeeks 10 күн бұрын
Great question! We have TWO high-security chains & locks - one for our e-bikes and one for our trailer's wheels. Both of them are pretty equal in security (as in VERY high - super rugged locks, and extremely hard chains). We had someone try to cut the bike chain a few years ago, and did nothing more than shine up the metal a little bit! We just checked, and the chain we use on the trailer is very hard to find at the moment for a good price, we suggest that this 10mm 6' chain like we use on our bikes is a better deal, and absolutely capable of protecting your trailer's wheels. This is the one we recommend: amzn.to/3zuisvx Hope this helps!

@@Joe-xj2tb Just curious if you’ve ever owned an RV with an outdoor shower. As we explained in the video, there are TWO ways to shut off the flow of water - but one of those ways leaves a path for crossover between the hot and cold sides of the water system. This is an easy mistake to make, especially if you aren’t aware of that crossover, which can’t happen is a sticks & bricks home, but can happen in an outdoor RV shower with a shutoff at the shower head (which almost every outdoor shower has).

drinking the water from your rv tank is a completely unnecessary risk ,, when you fill it at a gas station .. loves, or pilot the sign says: NOT POTABLE do you want a definition for that ? in fact it is just stupid to do this carry fresh water in the plastic wrap for drinking ,, use the non potable for shower and dishes ONLY
@RVgeeks
@RVgeeks 17 күн бұрын
Anyone who fills their fresh tank from a spigot marked “non-potable water“ is an idiot, or at least incredibly ignorant. And no, we don’t need a definition. We have been full-time RVers for over 20 years, properly maintaining and drinking out of our freshwater tank entire time without ever once having the slightest problem.

The great thing is that the hottest days are often the sunniest days, and our solar panels are capable of putting out almost enough power to offset the air conditioning, basically allowing us to tread water on battery state of charge during the hottest part of the day. So far we’ve been able to run the air conditioning for hours on end without taking our battery down enough to be concerned about. It’s kind of amazing!

@@lastrick08 As we were full-time during the entire 18 years we owned our Mountain Aire, we never covered the A/C units. I know they make covers for other A/C models, so ones that fit our low-profile heat pumps are likely out there. Great video! I did install mine by myself in 4 hours .lots of breaks and figuring out how to tackle the next part alone. It is possible, but I wish I had a second person without question. Pay attention to the small details. Like trimming the cord before installing on the tube. That took 30 minutes of cutting in place to rectify my mistake. Silicone spray was a god send!

My slide topper is an A&E. On this standard install, do we start with the room fully extended. Our slide room is just a U-shaped Dinette and sticks out 29" from the wall of the RV. Would this method of replacement be our best option, or the alternate?
@RVgeeks
@RVgeeks 27 күн бұрын
@@QGJohn We recommend using this standard method as the preferable way to do it unless you are especially eager to avoid being up on the ladder any more than necessary. This is a quicker easier process than our “alternate” method, but it is all done up on the ladder. And yes, we would start with the slide room fully extended.

The oil drain plug uses NPT threads. They are not square threads as found in automotive applications. An NPT threaded fastener is tapered and gradually gets tighter. There IS NO HARD STOP like there is on a car oil drain plug. The the video simply mentions that there is no crush washer. Use of NPT threads is the reason there is no crush washer. It should be noted that all older American cars did not use a crush washer on the drain plug either, BUT they also use square threads. So mentioning that the generator simply does not have a crush washer is misleading. Hope this helps.
