This is amazingly educational and funny which is the best kind of learning. "I got a long shaft" lolol. I'm also going to guess you're one of the engineers doing this in a dress shirt and what looks to be after hours to shoot. I'm also an engineer, so I get it :)

If the Oshmo is draining back into the engine but you have a non return breather under it wouldn't that cause problems?
@CognitoMotoTV
@CognitoMotoTV 13 күн бұрын
I understand what you're saying. The oil will accumulate because the breather acts like a one-way valve. It must pool and flow back when it opens, or perhaps it seeps back in due to it not being a perfect seal. I have not had any issues with this setup.

My solex carbs on my 68 912 caught fire. Almost burned the garage down. I’ll revisit this upgrade once I get an another. I ended up buying a 911 t motor I think for it. Sold the damaged 912 motor to a vw mechanic. I don’t know what I was thinking. But hey as a 25 year old what do you expect. Great car you got! If you hear of another reach out. I sure miss the early 912

Lot of work and looks like it worked out. I solved most of my hot carb issues with phenolic spacers and shielding metal fuel lines. Beyond that you could pop the trunk at gas stops or even some mini efans. With Mopar you get a slow starter so a $30 pass through priming pump can help with quicker starts. A return fuel line to the tank can also help with vapor lock but with a dual carb that might not be fun.

@@CognitoMotoTV thanks for your answer! I was wondering about those grounds cause I don’t see them in your video. Did you separate them? (One for the handle bar switches, one common for the brakes, speedo, and neutral switch, etc etc…) I wondered if it would be convenient to have a kind of « ground bus » where every ground would connect with a nice connection to the frame for example. Thanks again for your answer and awesome vids!

Excellent video!! Love the fog lights! Your car is cooler than a 911, but the missing Porsche chrome flat dish hubcaps make it look like a work of art without a frame, or maybe it has the frame but not the matting...? I'm trying to say something is missing, unless you were going for an unfinished look?

Brilliant job. I'm from the UK and have a 1968 Right Hand Drive 912. Bought it when I was 25 and I'm now 60. Like you, I started out with the Solex carbs and moved to Twin 40 Weber's, second hand off of an Alfa Sud. No money at the time, so you did what you had to do. My car still runs the Dynamo and Regulator. The car is lowered and had been modified before I bought it, to fiberglass front wings, impact bumpers and rear wheel arch extensions. It runs 205 tires all round on early Fondmetal alloys. Love the car and would never sell it. I will take it to the grave and my daughter will drive it home from there.

Just found your build series, fantastic. I’m have a question (or two).. Converting one of these BMW’s in the same way is something I’d like to take on, my question is once I find my diner bike, how many of these aftermarket parts, notably the rims with disk brakes, and front forks (as you ave used in your build), at actually available from third party parts providers “without” the need to modify the frame? In other words are a large majority of these after market part designed to retrofit onto the existing frames? The work itself, while tedious, does not concern me, I;m just not clear if I can replace items like the front fork with modern variants (like yours) with aftermarket’s without having to modify the original downer bike frame (welding, etc).. thanks in advance..
