when your optic nerve gets strained to the point it starts to black out, for example when you have old eyeglasses and you need new ones and your sight is strained, when you look at a surface or anything really and start to loosen your eyesight, you just stop moving your eyes and seeking with them. let them relax, and you will start seeing the stuff you look at disolve and start forming repetetive patterns of itself, of a jumbled up portion of itself. If you blink your brain tries to refocus and you see normally but if you dont you can observe this effect. Its just how your brain tries to salvage an image from insufficient visuals. Its why people see things in the dark way more often than in broad daylight.
