Have you compared it with bm advanced?
@SpottedTongueWoodworking
@SpottedTongueWoodworking Күн бұрын
I’ve never actually used BM advanced- I started with BM cabinet coat, then command, then Kem aqua, and then on to Gallery. The dry/cure time is literally a fraction of the time- recoat is about an hour for gallery, whereas advance is what, 16 hours? For a shop trying to put out product, quick dry time is an absolute necessity. Never mind that afavance is oil-modified which means the whites turn yellow over time. That’s a nonstarter for me.

Thanks for your videos, I've used a nova 390 for years and just bought the quickshot. So far I'm having a bad experience but you give me hope it can get better. First, cleaning black paint out and getting it ready for white paint seemed to take 5x the effort and time as a regular airless. And I'm having the same tip leaking problem. The first time I rinsed it with water, the tip leaked like crazy and I'm thinking we'll paint is thicker so its fine. I go to paint my first door and it drips paint twice each pass, going to have to sand the door and start over 🫠. I called my rep, he told me to call the spray source repair place and they seemed less than happy to give advice, said they've never heard of this problem and maybe I need to get a new tip seal. Didn't offer to bring it or even say it's free so idk.
@SpottedTongueWoodworking

You are absolutely spot on with the cleaning- light to dark or dark to light takes a longer time to flush and switch. I think it cleans quicker with mineral spirits than water. As for the leaking… 😬😬😬 it all depends where the fluid is coming from. My problem was the middle seal of the tip guard was not engaged because the unit had been cross threaded from the factory- if you can’t get it completely hand tightened then that’s the problem. Have you tried a different tip guard combo with the unit?

Thank you! I had been using a 308 fflp tip for gallery at a 4/5 on the quickshot, but I recently started using a 310 at 5/6 just for a little thicker coverage with each coat. Can’t notice much of a difference in finish quality and have much fewer clogs than the 308 now.

I know exactly what you’re saying. I haven’t officially tested it, but I feel I was getting quicker dry times spraying with HVLP rather than airless. The first time I tried gallery I used the SW vinyl sealer underneath and that took hours to dry. Switched to the Kem Aqua Surfacer and now it’s usually dry in about an hour spraying with airless. Definitely a nice hard, buttery smooth finish that I’m very happy with

I flip furniture. Before Gallery came along, I used Emerald interior trim, which was good, but I didn't care for the long dry time and total cure time. I have since moved to Gallery, and boy, it is awesome. It reminds me of Kem Aqua from Sherwin Williams, which I used for all the doors and kitchen cabinets in my home. Love everything about the Gallery except for the price, it's crazy expensive.

The price is definitely a little salty, even with contractor pricing. But this is the first product I’ve used that I honestly like. Excellent job. I don't know about your area, but here in Vegas CL/free has 2-3 standing pianos at all times, (Yesterday's new addition is a gorgeous 1888 make date. Stunning.) 2-3 time a month a Grand is out there for free, not even kidding. Right now LA has a beautiful Grand about 350 miles away....FREE. My idea for the build which I did not catch if yo answered was to take off the TOP, move it to the BACK, and add shelves in front. This will keep all the uniformity in color and finish in the shell. If not that, then I intend to cut up the top and make the shelves with that. I have been dreaming of this for about 6 years, but my tiny apartment is far from a shop. "It doesn't matter the blade." Yes, it matters. You need to use the correct blade for the material you are cutting. I have the original M12 jig saw. I got a variety pack of Diablo blades with different blades meant for different material. Using the general purpose blade, my original M12 jig saw made short work of cutting though treated 2x4s. What blade were you using?
@SpottedTongueWoodworking
@SpottedTongueWoodworking Ай бұрын
“It doesn’t matter the blade” because I was using the same blade in both saws to highlight the differences between the two saws on an equal playing field- same blade, same battery, same wood. I get what you’re saying, but I don’t think that’s the point.

I'm about to do the same project. You've done a great job, of course it's fine woodworking. Any tool that does the job you need it to has a place. I'm going to paint the outer frame a solid colour as the original varnish is in poor condition and the shelves are likely to be cherry or yew so getting a colour/stain match feels like an impossibility. Hopefully the contrast will work. Thank you for the ideas in this video regarding the shaping and fixing of the shelves. That radial arm dado stack looks like something from robocop!

Really glad you did the update. I got mine late last week. Picked it up from Sherwin Williams while away from home. I got sick on my way home. The next day I played with it for 30 minutes maybe (mostly cleaning lol). But I LOVED it!!!! I mean… it is so good. But I haven’t been able to get out in the shop and use it again. I got it to replace my VERY finicky HVLP gun. When I saw the first video I was worried. But also didn’t think mine leaked at all. But … I probably never should have been out there painting to begin with . LOL. Glad you got a replacement and are happy with it. Love hearing that from someone that’s had a lot more experience with spraying.

Switching from HVLP to airless is a night day difference. I was always adjusting the HVLP to get it to spray right. Airless is just point and shoot, and the FFLP tips give an equivalent finish! Just get used to cleaning the quickshot. It’s a little more delicate than a standard airless, but as long as you keep flushing it with mineral spirits after each use you’ll be golden- enjoy!!

@SpottedTongueWoodworking
@SpottedTongueWoodworking 2 ай бұрын
If you have the money to spend, it’s a neat little gun. I don’t think it’s worth the full price, but it is periodically on sale at Sherwin Williams. Now that we’re almost a year past these original videos, here’s my long-term take: it’s super convenient to be able to easily spray small jobs and switch between primer/paint/clear. I love the short hose not being in the way/getting tangled and not wasting a lot of product every time I clean it. I love being able to spray different parts of projects in a variety of places without worrying about plugs/cords (ie inside and outside). I don’t like how hard it is to keep clean- you have to keep up with cleaning l/flushing the machine out or it will give you problems. You can’t drop the gun head in a bucket of water like a standard airless gun because of the electronics, so it is harder to keep from clogging between coats or if you get distracted. The projects I have been doing are getting bigger and bigger, so the sprayer is getting pushed to its limits. I maybe should have gotten the GX19 for my shop, but this is the perfect unit for smaller furniture and small projects
